Pat Buchanan's epic fail in defense of Palin

It must really suck to be a conservative blowhard these days. Especially when stuck defending Sarah Palin's inanities, such as her cheerily informing us that as vice president she'd be "in charge of the Senate." Obviously, Buchanan was having very little fun yesterday on Hardball.

And when you have someone like Mark Green reminding the public that Palin has her own extremist pandering -- to the Alaskan Independence Party -- lurking in her background, well, I can imagine most of the right-wing talking heads with any brains capable of exploding just wind up looking for a nice corner they can go hide in.

just got HER ass handed to her by Chris Mathews as well in the exact same discussion about the exact same thing.

Fotenhauer. She definitely cried her way back home after that brutalizing.

That's what happens when you try to defend the indefensible.

Light a match, spray some air freshener....

)O(

Wind or weed?

:D

She can take Pat's racist ass back to Wassilla when she returns home in defeat.

I was kind of disappointed how Rachael allowed the racist pig to change the subject to Joe Biden when they were talking about Palin. I read his article in the Human Events website about Obama and Powell and race.

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=291...

Thanks to Right-Wingers, We Finally Get 'PAST' the 60's, and Back to the 50's!

Pat should find a nice corner to hide in for the next 25 years; maybe in Paraguay where it meets Brazil and Argentina.

I hope she runs again in 2012 and her fanatical fans propel her to the nomination. It would be so sweet, I can taste it.

So odds of her being nominated by the Rethuglicans is slim....

You could see Buchanan laughing at what he knew were his own failed excuses for Palin's indefensible gaffe. Kinda funny, imo.

Pat Buchanan is such a tool. It was fun watching him get his ass handed to him. I wonder how it feels to sell your soul over an idiot like Palin.

Pat's the token Republican floating head on MSNBC. He's not a neocon or a McCain supporter (he's an oldschool isolationist), but defending the GOP on that network devolves to him. He knows it. I know it. I'd be surprised if you don't know it, MsJoanne.

I think Buchanan is sandbagging the GOP.

No skin off of my ass.

Remember that he is part of a social movement...anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-anything but white bread, baby.

He may not be a neocon, but he fought just as hard for the war and his rhetoric against Iran is no better than a neocon. He is a GOP supporter only because of their social agenda. But he is and always will be...a tool. :-D

But you can tell he distanced himself after the Iraq invasion. Circa 2002 Buchanan would have never given a Democrat the kinda props he gave Obama following the latter's speech at the convention. Just sayin'...

mcgramps can pull it off?

Afterall there was one state, was it Wyoming, where people who voted democratic were flipped republican by the system.

There's still no paper trail.

The facists are still clearing voting rolls, challengeing voters to prove they can legally vote etc.

Whatever the outcome we're sitting on a powder keg

But then my nose looks shiny.

Sarah Palin:

A vice president has a really great job because not only are they there to support the president's agenda, they're like the team member, the team mate to that president, but also, they're in charge of the United States Senate.

If McCain's soul mate had stopped there, I'd probably agree with Buchanan. She'd have been addressing elementary school students in apostrophe, and her use of the phrase "in charge" could have meant that the vice president acts as the presiding officer.

But she didn't stop there.

So, if they want to, they can really get in there with the Senators, and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better . . .

Nope. No, she can't do that if she wants to. In fact, she shouldn't do it even if the Senate invites her to! It's a violation of the separation of powers!

Oh, and Pat, noting that there are racists in America is not on par with calling all liberals communists. It just isn't. Why? Because there actually are racists in America, a legion of whom have come out of the woodwork to support McCain, while liberals are not communists. The words just don't mean the same thing, and the connection is a nefarious smear. There are communists and socialists in America, and they refer to themselves as such.

Right there with ya Karen.

I think I could defend Sarah’s description of the role of the VP within the Senate. As others have pointed out, the Constitution describes the VP as “President of the Senate” as in “Presides Over”. Technically that’s true. I think Sarah actually read that part. As she was trying to explain it to a 3rd Grader, she used the term “In Charge Of” instead of “Presides Over” ‘cause it sounds all folksy.

Unfortunately, Sarah described it without ANY knowledge that the VP hasn’t tried to do anything with the Senate since Adams. No policy, No Control, NO NOTH’N. Even the 50-50 vote thing never happens because of back-room deals and procedural protocols have all but eliminated votes that close. Sarah didn’t know any of this.

A scarier thought than her abject ignorance is the possibility that she was coached this way. Her description, of course, is how Dick would have the office work.

Was on both sides of the Atlantic Socialism was developing from concerned Christian groups. In England, they did much to reform prison, and mental ward conditions, as well as social, school and sanitary reform; here in the US they had much to do with providing members of abolitionist groups.

Socialism and Communism aren't necessarily the same thing, that would be like saying Republicanism is dictatorship, because dictatorial Rome called themselves a Republic.

)O(

The (oft cited) London School of Economics was begun with philanthropic donations from the Fabians.

The Fabian Society is a British intellectual socialist movement, whose purpose is to advance the principles of Social democracy... (from Wiki)

I studied this in English History, in university, and wrote a paper on it.

It was advanced by people concerned about the vast economic differences between the haves and the have nots, kind of like now. It's part of the reason we have things like public toilets. Yes these things do matter to the overall well-being of societies. Look at countries that don't have such things.

Out of curiosity, was the Fabian group secular or religious humanists, or perhaps some other label?

Praise Bob!!!

That is correct. I am a Socialist.

I feel that it is my duty to my country to vote for Obama this time, as I did for Kerry and Gore.

It is frustrating, but it is more important to keep the Republicans and their ruinous "policies" out of the Whitehouse.

And the Senate.

And the House.

Maybe someday when the majority of people see the Republicans for the fetchers that they are - I can go back to voting for my preferred choice.

I am a Socialist too, i just wish Obama was because he is going to win.

I hope that you are right.

I find myself thinking that we're heading toward another Dieboldized election.

Or martial law.

And Obama isn't even a leftist of any sort!

They may want to steal it this time, but i don't think they have the guts.

xoites:

I don't think lack of guts is their problem. But they might just lack the ability this time.

It is imperative that we turn out as many people as possible. Everywhere. They can't steal it if it's too obvious. We need a large margin of victory.

If it is stolen, it has to be challenged.

Even in the streets.

McCain should have picked you (he might have gotten my vote if he did), but of course he has no desire to find anyone with any knowledge.

Me?

xoites:

McCain should have picked you (he might have gotten my vote if he did), but of course he has no desire to find anyone with any knowledge.

Thanks for the vote of confidence (I think). :)

But had McCain called on me to be his running mate, I definitely would have blinked. A few thousand times. As I was vomiting.

Then I would have publicly called upon the world to recognize, at long last, that the man had finally lost his marbles.

My point (the thing i where a hat to cover up) is that if McCain had not sold his soul, had he decided to actually run an honest campaign with knowledgeable people instead of ideologues he probably would be doing a lot better. No, he would not have gotten my vote because the first time i actually listened to him back in the 1990s i knew i totally disagreed with him, but he probably would have been our next President if he had not misplayed his hand.

Too late!

I don't even know what to say about this tub of goo other than I am shocked people pay him money to be on the teevee, and others watch him. That he has an audience.

Man.

Green: "it was constitutionaly ignorant"
Buchanon "She made a mistake"....

Yea... pretty much both statements are true.... I'll give Tweety a point for not letting Buchanon get away with his bullshit defense about talking to second graders blah blah blah (since she was trying to say more or less the same kind of shit to Katie C.) or redirecting the question into some tripe about Obama and HIS (Buchanons)'hometown.....

As far as making mistakes goes.. Yea, McCain made one too and so has the GOP when they picked up this wackjob with a pretty face to play second fiddle to the old man.... I more or less hold Cheney responsible for the misbegotton cluelessly ignorant notions Ms. Palin seems to hold regarding the vp duties...

It was kinda funny though, watching Buchanon's face go from looking like he was sucking on a sour lemon to appearing on the verge of his head exploding like some rotten tomato taking a fall off a high ledge.... That part was pretty good.. The Palin defense mode.. Pretty pathetic...JD Yea, I'm still Jack Damage and this is probably the last anyone will see of me around here.. though I'll still come around to read what everyone is ranting about now and then Regards to all...JD

Given that he's not shy about asking the right wing vermin the tough questions most of the so called 'mainstream media' are too doscile to ask. Chris did a great job here.

He has not always had those balls he is displaying now. He let shit go all the time with no comment.

There are many reasons to dislike Matthews. Just because he got a set now, or a conscience, or whatever, he is nothing to tout overall.

This may be the first time i have disagreed with you. It is obvious to me Tweety has had some kind of epiphany. Good for him and good for the rest of us. You can blame someone for being an ass, but blaming them for having once been an ass is a lot harder.

It will be a short-lived epiphany.

Tweety, being the bird turd he is, goes the way the wind blows.

I think that his epiphany was the market crash.

Poor Tweety took a bath, I'm thinkin'.

Lest it be lost is that at one time i was a right wing Republican. I have not been one since 1973.

People change. :)

But tweety was famously misogynistic against HRC and I doubt that his newfound testicular fortitude has as much to do with right or wrong as it is that Palin has a pussy. I honestly do think that.

I trust he will return to his old asshole self once the election season is over.

And X, you can disagree with me anytime. I love debate. :)

I was on a ghost-hunting vacation with my son on the Queen Mary when Commander Codpiece landed on the carrier.

I watched Tweety absolutely GUSH over his MASCULINE Commander in Chief.

He said words to the effect (if memory serves) that Americans don't want a "smart president" but needed a president to TAKE ACTION.

Tweety is an effin' idiot who sees which way the wind is starting to blow.

If he likes thae smell of their aftershave. Or do you forget Tweety's crush on Fred Thompson?

Okay...I am changing the subject a little, but I saw Buchanon last Sunday on The McGlaughlin group and was amazed to hear him denounce Obama for "redistributing the wealth" and claiming that he wnats to take money away from the top 1%...the ones that earn their money.
Say what??? The rest of us don't earn our money? I guess that Pat imagines that the lower 99$ are just a bunch of freeloaders.

If tax dollars go to bail out corperate interests, the right wingers are fine with that- but they flat out oppose the money going to help hard working American citizens..And to think they claim to love America...

I may not actually know all that much when it comes right down to it, but i do know that the top 1% in no way, shape or form earn their income.

It's just an old argument in a new form. It's a rehash of Social Darwinism, the original response to Progressives.

The people who are wealthy are so because they deserve it. They are the fittest who have risen to the top. Likewise, the people who are poor are so because the deserve to be. They're not fit to compete in the economic world. To take from the rich to give to the poor is thus wrong, and counterproductive. The poor do not deserve it, and will only waste it anyway.

It's a way of rationalizing one's own privilege.

It was called the "Divine Right"

You are wealthy; becuase, "GOD" favors you.

The rest are poor; becuase, "GOD" does not favor them.

Please, please, just go back to your fleabag, trashy, soap opera life and let us get on with trying to fix this mess your party has gotten us into over the last 8 years. Go home, [Deleted. C'mon, Jo. You're only inviting more of it. Site Monitor], and play footsie with your hubby and your family and your ego and your $175,000.00 wardrobe. Go back and face impeachment in your own damned state andleave the rest of us alone. I really think there is something mentally screwed up with you and I know your so-called religion is dangerous to our Constitution.
Give us all a break. Go home. Just go home. God. I am just so sick of you.

McCain is going to continue using Sugar-momma Cindy for her money; until, she gets sick of him and cuts the money off.

When she cuts him off; McCain will run off and marry his secretary.

Caribou Barbie will make the perfect trophy wife;

Young and pretty, likes to spend all his money on clothing, and drives all his friends and supporters away.

cuz even he knows that he is wrong

Could someone please give buchanan a rabies shot? He is a mad dog, racist, POS!

Meltdown, and I'm not talking about the economy.

(Aside: Asia already down another 6% today, within 10 minutes of market opening.)

So Pat thinks it's OK to lie to 2nd graders about how the country is run? That's scary. Talk about brainwashing a generation.

)O(

pat probably thinks they call the wind Murray.

Isn't pat kinda a sissy name?

I think you do not want to alienate the Irish. :)

She was talking to an adult. The interviewer conveyed a question from a third grader in part of an adult interview. Palin was speaking to an adult.

She is an idiot.

Is there anyone in the republican party who is not a lying SOB?

Is this a trick question?

Hehehe, I like it hen the bobble heads get held to the fire. MORE PLZ!

"That is as anti-American as calling Liberals communists..."
-Well, calling liberals socialists is pretty darn close to that, so I guess that makes McCain and his people anti-American.

"She was talking to a second grader..."
Talk about a lame excuse.

...racism is very, very American. And I come from one of the bluest, most non-American states in the country. Pat, you're old, tired, and your ideology is dying before your very eyes.

DAMN, I HATE THE EXPRESSION "EPIC FAIL".

Is it so fucking hard to say "failure"????

I must have missed the memo about Pat's no-cut contract but isn't it time to cut this fool out of the discussion? He continues to make a mockery out of himself and the remaining knuckle-draggers from the ronnie raygun era but NBC Intl. keeps putting him in the crossfire...

He is SO predictable, has NOTHING valid to say and keeps getting too much of his high-blood-pressure medicine (or is that the stuff Limberger sends him) in the way of reality...

Why doesn't NBC just lose this guy somewhere?? He's outlived his usefulness...He is officially - NOT RELEVANT.

Pat is a joke, and utter and complete NeoCon joke. His opinion is so fully biased I can guess his answers to questions before he starts talking.

Pat, do you think McCain will beat Obama? OF COURSE!

Pat, do you think children are smart than Obama? OF COURSE!

He's nothing more than a right-wing talking point. Why is he allowed on these shows?
