All of the talk about the special Newsweek report describing the backstage events in this year's presidential campaign has focused on various revelations about Sarah Palin's astonishing lack of knowledge about global and national affairs, as well as her spending sprees.

But this passage seemed at least as significant, if not more so:

The Obama campaign was provided with reports from the Secret Service showing a sharp and disturbing increase in threats to Obama in September and early October, at the same time that many crowds at Palin rallies became more frenzied. Michelle Obama was shaken by the vituperative crowds and the hot rhetoric from the GOP candidates. "Why would they try to make people hate us?" Michelle asked a top campaign aide.

Tim Shipman at the Telegraph (UK) has more:

Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."

Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.

There was a reason, I think, that people were repelled by the ugliness that proceeded from the McCain/Palin campaign this year -- common sense, after all, should tell you where this kind of ugliness was heading. It showed up at the polls.

The problem is finding a way to put out the fuse that they lit.

She's an evil-spewer.

So is McCain. He's not exempt from this.

But McCain seems to be getting a go-by in all this. Palin's action and rhetoric were reprehensible - but don't tell me McCain didn't know or was in some way bamboozled. Oh no - I agree with you. McCain holds responsibility for this. He could have put a halt to all the anti-American, Communist/Socialist bullshit Palin was spinning. By keeping silent, he gave tacit permission for everything said – including those calls for violence towards Obama and his family. Did you hear the angry murmurs during McCain’s concession speech? The crowd wanted (and expected) more hate and fear - which is what they would have got had Palin been allowed to speak. Even now – McCain remains silent. He chose Palin – if he had any balls he’d either defend her, or confirm what’s being said. Instead he runs off to pout, leaving Palin twisting in the wind. I’d like to see him catch some of this heat – including responsibility for those threats towards Obama. He shoveled up all that shit. It’s high time some of it stuck to him.

This dynamic was there long before Palin, and it will be there after Palin.

I'm repulsed by her politics, but this rhetoric, in this campaign, was voiced before, by others (including Lieberman, IIRC).

...can't change people's behavior I would say:

1. look at the ammount of money per year spent on advertising
2. look at the case of the media in the Rwandan genocide
3. look at the political rhetoric used by politicians in the Balkans
4. look at the nazi propaganda machine on Kristalnaight
5. look at the south in the 60s
5. etc....

Sarah Palin made it okay to Hate. I'm not saying that it didn't existi before, but when public figures sanction hatred in the public square, people feel justified in their hatred and then in their actions.

Sarah Palin is an idiot drunk on a brief taste of power. She may sink back into nothingness or be carried on the shoulders of madmen.

Hate and fear for personl gain....'you bet-cha'

It makes you wonder how and why 64% of the Republicans see Failin' Palin as the their party's next leader and 2012 candidate. And, if they think that 'sanctity of marriage' (read: anti-gay) will be the foundation of their party's resurrection, then they still have their heads up their faith-based reality.

The so-called 'party of ideas' is as bankrupt as Lehman Brothers, Countrywide, IndyMac, BearStearns, etc.

Hence their willingness to release these telling post-election tidbits about her ignorance of Africa as a continent, the composition of NAFTA and North America, her reluctance to be coached before interviews and her temper tantrums. Republicans in general like her personal magnetism, but it's only skin deep. Beneath that is a brain as incurious as Dubya's, and a soul closer to the anti-Christ than Obama ever will be. (How's that for irony?)

Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.

I don't really agree with this assessment, John McCain not only did not repudiate Palin's extremist claims, he backed them and repeated them.
Whats more, I think this was one of the most reprehensible and ugly campaigns run by republicans Ive seen in my lifetime.

And didn't McCain accuse Obama of "wanting to lose a war in order to win an election" (or however he put it) before the Palin pick?

Agreed. If McCain had any issue with Palin's attacks, he could have stopped her after the first such speech.

Another menace from the fair sects.

(see http://cabdrollery.blogspot.com/2008/11/not-t... )

If Palin was off-message in attacking "That One," why didn't McCain's people jerk her leash? I think they hired her to say what they didn't want McCain to have to say. But McCain's people were sure thinking it.

He let the religious right take over his campaign so he wouldn't have to reveal his true self.

i aint buying the meme that says palin came up with this stuff on her own

at the rnc, she was handed a speech which belittled obama's work as a community organzer....it started then

to the racist repugs, community organizer equals outside agitator equals jews and blacks equals the people not like us

yep

you said it

McCain is an obvious racist, and so is Phalin. They're also, to anyone with more sense than a goat, hate-filled self-righteous jerks, to use one of Mooselini's latest epithets.

If I could do something about it I'd go after Phalin, publicly or legally, whatever it takes to send her on an express train to bankruptcy and well-deserved life-long obscurity.

I just read her saying "I only asked for an occasional Dr. Pepper" while campaigning. She needs to see another kind of Dr., as in psychiatrist, for her pathological, sociopathic lying.

They like their hate-mongers. Remember when Coulter insulted the 9/11 widows? Did any head of the Republucan Party disavow her? How many times has Bush, Cheney AND McCain gone on Limpball's show?

They like having their hate spewed for them, and they like their crowds rabid and unthinking.

The undertones of racism in Republicans' rhetoric have been flittering ever closer to the surface for the whole of my lifetime. Does anyone remember Reagan campaigning through the south in '80 and how many times the words "states rights" came up in his stump speeches.

McCain waged the most racist campaign since George Wallace (though a rather distant second). For the record, I am old enough to remember the Wallace campaign.

This was a really close second. If you noticed, after a while, you didn't see the well-dressed Republican ladies and the country-club looking middle-aged men in the crowds at Palin rallies. You saw the kind of folks you see at tractor-pulls, only not nearly so classy. There were shots of a lot of rather wild-eyed looking folks at those rallies. I think that was when I knew that McCain probably couldn't win. He lost the moderate Republicans and was down to the far, far right of one issue politics.

And so I have to wonder,

has the Republican Party become the party that George Wallace would have liked to have seen in 1968?

I'll be so glad when she finally fades into the snowbank and we don't have to be reminded of the narrow escape from a nightmare of cataclismic proportions.

Thank God!!

It's hard to believe the election was less than a week ago. Seems like a hundred years already and she should be long forgotten.

The wingnut rage against Obama will never end. I expect the crazy to keep on ginning till the inauguration. Hopefully, some of it will subside for a spell so actual work can get done.

A new poll shows that 60% of them want her to run in 2012.

If they feel she's damaged beyond repair (my hope) then she'll get a mega-million contract per year at Faux News.
*

Maybe she should move there. Poisoning seems a tactic right up her alley.

and 100% of Democrats want her to run, too!

Dang, you beat me to it!

How ya gonna keep 'em up in the snow after they've seen Saks?

Bet she ends up with a talk show on Fox or CBN. She'll be talked about for a while and then folks will grow tired of her. She is the quintessential one-trick pony.

palin took her talking points from the likes of el druggo, hannity, loofa boy and weiner

they have been stirring the pot for months

before obama takes office, each of these fucks needs to be visited by the secret service and told that their baseless rhetoric has consequences

to see their faces when told not to "shout fire in a crowded theater."

Free speech my sweet fanny.

No . These f***ers need to understand ANYTHING happens to any Obamas we will extract their due punishment times ten over. There will be NO safe harbors in America not a threat but rather an observation,Got it rush, shane, sarah.

Some of this was going to come regardless of what the McCain campaign did. Our batshit racist community was not going to let this latest affront go unremarked. The McCain campaign, however, deliberately decided to fan these flames in an effort to mobilize "the base." While Palin was the worst offender in this regard, it was clearly at the urging of the campaign and McCain himself also indulged in it to a lesser extent. The blame for this clearly rests with McCain, though Palin is clearly a willing accomplice and an overt racist (look at her record in Alaska).

As to what we do, it is going to be a very hard thing. The McCain campaign empowered and legitimated these lunatics and they will not go quietly and willingly crawl back under their rocks in the sewer swamps. I expect a lot more problems and violent actions by these people.

McCain never accused Obama of "pallin around with terrorists", and he did rule Jeremiah Wright off limits to Palin. And remember, not only did Hillary beat Obama over the head with Wright, she also tried to smear him with drug dealer rumors.

When he was asked directly he hedged and fumbled but he did not deny or retract. He fell back on the lame, "Obama should tell the truth about his relationship with Ayers" line, which is straight out of the "how long have you been beating you wife" school of political attacks.

McCain could have stopped it all, but he really hated losing, so he tried to have it both ways until the crowds got truly ugly, then he went back and forth between Obama's a fine man and Obama's a commie socialist marxist who won't tell the truth.

Does anyone know if the Secret Service warned her about the hateful words she was saying and the repercussions they would bring about?
Perhaps the Secret Service or other responsible people should
do such a thing--particularly when the anger is so pointed to one
person.

Or does American politics not allow this?

Given how free speeech has been muzzled among most Americans
since 9/11, it would have been in line to do so.
Unless there's a double standard for free speech.
There seems to be a double standard for most other things in
Bush's administration.

There is no such paper as the UK Telegraph. It's the Telegraph and
it's published in the UK. UK does not figure into the name--just
like the London Times.

Sarah Palin was and is a small town politician who was clearly out of her league. The crap she was flinging around might fly in the bars and coffee shops of Wasilla where she and the cops knew all the whackos, but there were people in her audiences here in the south 48 who are clearly unbalanced and quite anonymous.

Yes - the Secret Service should have warned her against the dangers of inciting. For that matter, John McCain should have taken her aside. In either case, as a former resident of Alaska, I can guarantee she'd have responded with the 1st Amendment.

It's terribly sad she continued pouring gasoline onto the fire even after the first cries of kill him came.

BTW - free speech was muzzled on the left during the Bush years, not on the right. The first examples that comes to mind are the hate radio crowd, Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.

It's the Torygraph.

And they say 60% of re-Thuglics want her to run in 2012?

Re-thug-lics -- the party of immature, voraciously rapacious, depraved, despotic, doughy white, cowardly, angry troglodytes, bigots, racists, perverts, xenophobes, pedophiles, murderers, war criminals, homophobes, misogynists, self-hating women, fetid wombs, preeminent whiners and consummate chronic liars.
*

And they say 60% of re-Thuglics want her to run in 2012?

And 100% of Democrats.

)O(

And eaters of their own boogers.

...was beautifully succinct.

Coincidentally, Palin doesn't know what the word "vituperative" means.

Only the real mouth-breathers can get behind a Palin candidacy. But I wouldn't be shocked to see her as a #2 again.

The democrats and liberals need to do a good job of reminding the American people of the utter failure of conservative policy for the next several elections, i.e the party that brought you Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush.

#2?

She thinks she's qualified to be president, so she'll insist on running for the #1 spot if she isn't behind bars.

)O(

Hooters?

:-)

Serving Boilermakers to snowmobilers...

I'm not buying this scapegoating of Gov. Palin. This was Sen. McCain's campaign. He started out saying he was going to run a clean campaign. He announced it on John Stewart's program. Then, with his campaign in the dumps, he turned to Karl Rove's people and went for the smearing of Obama's character. Gov. Palin wasn't on her own. She was following McCain's cue.

if only barack had agreed to those town hall meetings...

... bastards make me sick, make me hate...

"...This was Sen. McCain's campaign..."

Correct. Meaning he was supposed to be in charge of HIS campaign. McCain's staff told him what to do and say, it should have been the other way around. He should have stuck to his word to run a clean campaign like Barack did.

He, instead, did things the Bush way. Not only did McCain/Palin lose, now we're left with these wackos all revved up.

I still can't believe that the Sectret Service didn't lock up both McCain and Palin. Isn't that what they are paid to do?

to send racist emails, but apparently they did:

http://www.newser.com/story/27064/secret-serv...

It was creepy to see the black van taking Obama to the gym the other day in Chicago with a Secret Service
agent holding what was obviously a high-powered rifle/machine gun out the back window.

John McCain should step forward and denounce what Palin said and he should apologize and tell all his loyal "followers" to back off and to bow their collective heads in shame. But he won't.

The best way to put out the fuse is to just speak out against racism wherever you see it. Don't be afraid to tell someone they're wrong for what they say. Stand up against racism - even if it happens among your friends and family. It is the only way we'll be able to put an end to this.

I agree. But we must also go further. We need to know the companies who advertise on Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc. and boycott them. They also need to be put on notice that we won't tolerate hateful speech that incites the racist nutjobs. We also need to make an effort to get to know, really know people from other backgrounds/ethnic groups. I don't mean to do it just so you can say that you have a black friend or an asian friend. Do it for the same reasons you would befriend anyone else - because you work together, belong to the same gym, live in the same neighborhood. We have to all make efforts to get to know each other as fellow human beings.

Yes, I agree.

Figure out every freakin' product being hawked on these "Irrelevant" hate-mongers' programs and list them on a website or right here at C&L. Excellent idea.

several of the commenters can give it to you. I've either seen it here or at Huff. If someone has the list, please post. I, for one, would love to contact all of Rush's sponsors. His voice goes right through me, even if I just catch it for a second as I change stations.

Evidently, right-wing hate speech didn't win this election, and it took the Secret Service to put the Republican Party on notice.

My new ridiculing phrase is "Palin 2012".

"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them...."

-- Thomas Jefferson

I know there has been a spike in death threat and assassination jokes. I've heard about four this week, not from WS types, but from NRA baptist types.

No one should hold back anything on Palin. Regardless of whether she was stupid, she was completely viscious and a scumbag. She brought politicing to a new low in this country. Basically called Obama a Marxist and a terrorist. That is frankly the talk of a traitor and not really the way Americans talk about their political leaders.

People should and have every right to pound her down right now after the election. She did not help move politics and the country forward at all.

She is exactly the type of partisan politican that this country does not need.

the denver us atty must be fired ASAP for letting some three-toothed methheads with many weapons off as if threats to Obama should not be taken seriously.

he should also be charged with malfeasance, derelection of duty and disbarred for not exercising his legal duties as written in law.

The hate groups have been around for a long time. They merely used her comments as an excuse to express their hate. Governor Palin was only doing what was required of her as the 'attack dog' of the campaign according to the old power politics mechanics. Hate groups spring up when people feel like they have no voice. It is my hope that I'll live long enough to see all Americans sharing their views in a constructive way. But if not, then I at least have the thrill of watching the politics of fear fall flat on its face.

She was very obviously enjoying the attention and applause she got each time she threw this nasty stuff out there. I've seen shots from those rallies...she never made an attempt to tamp this crap down. Sorry, beauty fades, dumb is forever. So is vanity.

If the best she could do to whip up excitement and enthusiasm for her campaign was to pander to white supremacist sentiment and play on fear and hate in the crowds, that shows just how pathetic she is.

The Republican Party, if it wants to distance itself from this ilk, should repudiate her immediately.

It is sickening to hear the hatred come out of people I am acquainted. All I can do is recoil in obvious disgust. I wondered for so many years why it is that President Kennedy was killed, Robert Kennedy, MLK, then Bush and Cheney walked around without fear. This hatred must be stopped, indicted and imprisoned. And the talk/jokes of bullets, assassination, etc. shocks then desensitizes when it should be squashed. What is the best course of action? Report it to the authorities? Or just tell the person what an irresponsible remark like that can do? What?

In my humble opinion, you can't tell someone who makes comments concerning bullets, assassination etc. anything about the irresponsibility of what they're saying. THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE SAYING.

You can try reporting it to the authorities. At least then you'll know what THEY think.

"The problem is finding a way to put out the fuse that they lit."
Yeah,good luck with that.
The wingers are already regarding any talk of bipartisanship with vindictive suspicion. Many of the hardest GOP Nuts feel that Liberals were too hard(oh boo fucking hoo)on Bush, and now its THEIR turn to "whine and complain" about the government. All this of course, before any meaningful honest examination is done concerning their own unbelievably dangerous and obnoxious actions during the last 8+ years. All this weeks before Obama even sets foot in the Oval Office.
The true Bush lecacy is one of unprecedented partisan rancour that seems to have irretrievably divided people along rigid ideological lines.
The hard right just now nursing their wounds will be simmering in toxic hate that can't help but effect the Obama Presidency.
The man has definitely got his work cut out for him.

The Change movement is based on the principle that every voice should be heard, especially the voice of dissent. The fact that he was elected President affirms the fact that enough people in this country have embraced this principle to overcome the hate-mongers. Once we lose our fear, there is nothing to hold us back. This is going to scare the pants off the hate groups, so we are going to have to be even more vigilant and security-conscious for a long time. It's going to be a tough sell to the extremists, but we may be able to lead by example and make this country fit to live in.

We'll never get rid of ALL the haters and racists but a concerted effort may reinvigorate society with a sense of fairness and equality for all.Truth be told, there is undeniable pleasure in hating "the other side" but grownups know how damaging this can be.

And they tell us to fear the people who AREN'T in our country.

America voted for change. Let's bring it home. And let the racists cry and whine. The world will move on fine without them.

ok - normally i avoid fox links like the plague, but i had to find out about this one... january 20 will not get here soon enough...

First Bush-Obama Meeting: Hard Feelings and Hand Sanitizer

As President Bush and President-elect Barack Obama prepare for their post-election meeting at the White House on Monday, memories of their first encounter linger.

[...]

guy's a freak.

Palin is the scum of the earth - and then some. For her to intentionally be inciting hatred, bigotry, and domestic terror from the stump is not only "unamerican" but "criminal" as well.

Domestic Terror inciting in the public square is a criminal violation of the Patriot Act and videos of her need to be under investigation by the secret service as well as some criminal prosecution down the line.

Even if the McCain/Palin campaign hadn't lit a "fuse" there would still be many threats against Obama simply because he is black. You have to think about it from the point of view of these people. They can't comprehend the idea that a black man is President, even if the Republican campaign hadn't used the language they did. Do you have any idea how many racist fanatics there are in this country? I fear for Obama with good reason.

There's enough bigotry and hatred in this country to go round, this is accurate; however, to intentionally incite it as she did in the public arena and by someone whom we assume should be qualified to actually "lead" this country is another thing all together.

What McCain and Palin did is criminal and they need to be brought to justice for it.

They violated the Patriot Act by encouraging people to violence and death threats....end of discussion.

Race is going to always be a competitive issue in this or any country; however, we expect our candidates for the highest offices in this country to have some sense of class and decorum and we surely don't expect them to be violating the Patriot Act at their rallies right under our noses.

Jail wouldn't be good enough for Sarah Palin my estimation.

If this bigot and hate monger decides to run in 2012 (if she's not in jail for having Spenard Building Supply build her house free of charge in exchange for the multi-million dollar contract on the Wasilla Sports Complex that is!)....she'll have lost before she even begins.

Besides, by then she will also be a "convicted felon" for precisely the same charges which have become felony counts against Ted Stevens, her mentor and partner in crime.

Spenard Building Supply (google it) is the very same outfit who committed the felonious act for Ted Stevens......I see a Palin trial in 09 for felony corruption as well.

She'll be so easy to beat that the Democrats won't even need to solcit campaign donations.

She will never win the nomination. Huckabee is more likeable, Romney can buy his own campaign from parking change in his car and their is Jindal and Pawlenty and a host of others who will likely give it a go. Palin would not be able to keep up.

Did you hear that Letterman top 10 the other day?

Palin thinks that NAFTA stands for Need Another Fifty Thousand For Accessories

I understand that this is an open and ongoing investigation by the Secret Service which may result in criminal findings. There is nothing this country would like to see more is for people in high places who break the law to be brought to justice.

Imagine one of us getting up on the platform and spewing slurs and lies and smiling while attendees shouted "Kill him", etc.?? Just imagine it for one moment.

Guess where we'd be in a heartbeat? Our asses would be slammed into the nearest jail with no questions asked. It's called "The Patriot Act", folks.

Sarah Palin violated the Patriot Act and got away with it right up in our faces. Sarah Palin has aided and abetted the further tearing of the fabric of our society and will become the people's "pariah" if she ever comes back to the lower 48. People will laugh in her face.

I was wondering when this would come up.
Inciting violence, and hatred.
I'm sure Palin is very proud of her accomplishment.
Hey, all is fair in love war and politics. Right?
Wrong!
If something happens to Pres Elect Obama, I Personally will fix all of the blame on McCain and Palin. There is no middle ground here. Not for me.
I will also fix blame on the GOP as a whole for not speaking out against such ugly and potentially life threatening campaign tactics.
Like I said, Never Forget.

and neither will the rest of the world. A person has to wonder how McCain and Palin can live with themselves after what they have done.

The Establishment new and did nothing to prevent the death of JFK, Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, etc. They will do nothing to prevent the death of Obama if someone is that nutso. I fear for the man's life. It isn't an exaggeration. Some crackpot WILL get chances.

And I'll never feel that all the extra security is excessive. It's going to be tough on the two little Obama girls having to be surrounded by bodyguards all the time, not being able to go places freely like other kids do. But I'm sure that Barack and Michelle will find a way to explain why all of this is necessary - without scaring them to death.

Every time I get a CNN breaking news email, I am afraid to open it.

but it's awfully convenient that the McCain campaign blame her for EVERYTHING that turned out to hurt the campaign. After all, she was back in Alaska, where she could harm no one outside of that state, when they swooped in and promoted her to attack dog. I do not believe that she took it upon herself to attack Obama's patriotism. Did she make John McCain do the same thing? This campaign was rotten to the core...and she wasn't the core.

No,

But she was part of the core. And she willing poured gasoline on that fire. Over and over and over again . She's an adult(?) she should know better. But she did it anyway. She could have stopped and gone about campaigning in a different way, But she didn't.
She can burn in hell.

condemning McCain equally. I just find it humorous that it's all her fault because that's the convenient rationale for all his staffers. This was the worst run campaign since I began voting back in 1964 (yikes!). The character attacks were horrible. But she didn't go off on her own and start them. She did it, gleefully, with their full knowledge and approval. Now, they are making it sound as if she was the brains of the campaign....but you need to have a brain to be the brains.

It is a great day for America when racist campaigning costs you Virgina, North Carolina, and most likely Georgia (if the votes had been counted).

If this election was a referendum on racial politics then the racists lost.

I have said it before and i will say it again; racism is not a terminal illness. There is a cure and many people in my lifetime have changed their attitudes. I expect this to accelerate now that the leader of our country is not some white guy.

I also have a lot of respect for the Secret Service and in their abilities to protect the President of the United States.

I predict Sarah Palin will not be a serious contender in 2012. In my lifetime the candidate that seemed most likely four years before an election has never won its party's nomination. Our world changes much too fast for that.

What does Sarah Palin have going for her? To some she is an attractive woman. Looks fade over time (with some exceptions) and i expect Palin will be a has been after the next race for Governor of Alaska.

Racism link to Domestic Terror

I agree that the McCain/Palin campaign became a more racial campaign than a true political campaign that many true Americans wanted to see. Yet, Racism has always been in America alive and strong. When President Bush declared war on terrorism, he should have known that terrorism and racism is linked. One big terrorist group within this country is the KKK, Skin heads and many other anti-American militia groups that formed within the United States. Still today such groups are legal. We should make such groups illegal under the patriot act since they are Anti – American.

The war on Terrorism should of begin at home and then across seas. Going after the terrorist groups and hidden cells within the United States should have been our first strike. The second strike should have been on going after terrorist groups across seas such as Bin Ladden’s group and putting them to rest. The United States is one of the greatest countries in the world amongst other super powers (countries) and with good relations with countries (Small and Large) around the world; the war on terrorism can be won. Yet! We must not fool ourselves in believing that terrorism and racism is not linked. It is said that hate creates anger and anger create violence and violence creates suffering. WE MUST STOP THE HATE – WE MUST END RACISM.

Seven years ago when my husband you re-upt after 9/11, I begged him not to. This country has lost so much respect for the core values it was founded on it makes me want to throw up and the ultimate spit on our flag was when this country elected Obama as president. Just as you all blame everything on Bush i'm sure when Obama doesn't come through with any change he spouted during his campaign you will find a way to blame it on some Republican & not on him! It makes me sick that my husband is on his third tour in Iraq, leaving his three children and me at home for the freedom of people who don't even respect our flag or our troops!!!!! But lay your heads down on your pillow and rest easy my husband is fighting so you can have restful sleep!!!!!

I've given up most of my 20s, a family, a career and many close friends.

I don't blame that on anyone. I do blame poor decision making on the Bush Admin, and to reward them I voted for Sen (now Pres Elect) Obama.

Voting for an honorable man is spitting on my flag? SUUUUUUUURE LADY. Keep drinking that Kool Aid.

You don't think any of us have loved ones on tour in Iraq? You think maybe even a few of us have to Iraq and/or Afghanistan?

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about, so shut the fuck up.

Are you saying that warfare is one of the core values our country was founded upon? Hatred, too? I don't think so. The Iraqis didn't attack us on 9/11. They have never attacked us at all. The 9/11 attackers were all Saudis. So why didn't we invade Saudi Arabia? Go figure. Your husband is not fighting for our freedom. We already have that. He's fighting so that we can somehow control the rich oil reserves in Iraq. I hope to God that he returns to you safe and sound soon. Why do you say that our electing Obama was 'the ultimate spitting on the flag'? To me, the torturing of prisoners and pissing on the Koran was a repudiation of our core values and is more of a flagspit than electing a president who just might be able to help the Iraqis take their country back. Just having soldiers in Iraq does not give me restful sleep.

Who the hell are you?

How dare you insult me for exercising my right to vote for the candidate I support?

How dare you accuse me of not loving my country because I don't agree with your ill-informed politics?

How dare you equate electing a US Senator to the Presidency with spitting on the flag?

You say this country has lost respect for our core values? Exactly what in your post showed any respect for this country, your fellow citizens, or any understanding of what our "core values" are?

I've got news for you, I not only married a military man, I wore the uniform too. That's right, I raised my right hand and swore to protect and defend my country. My family and I are part of the troops you say aren't being respected, but you're the only one here I see being disrespectful to members of the military.

Who the hell are you to insult me and my family?

I'll tell you who you are. You are one more small-minded bigot screeching your rage at anyone who doesn't buy into your nasty hateful politics, and, what's worse, you're using your husband's service as an excuse for your hatefulness.

And MY SON is now the latest in a long line of my family to wear this country's uniform to protect YOUR right to be the unbelievably ignorant bigoted fool you are showing yourself to be.

In my military family, we ALL voted for Obama. As an American, you had the right to vote for whomever you chose. You do NOT have the right to impugn our patriotism or accuse us of not loving our country just because we don't agree with you.

You want this country to be a better place where we return to our core values? Fine. Start by working on yourself first. Learn civility and respect for others, whether or not they have served.

And, in the meantime, do NOT lay your head down on your pillow and rest easy while my son is keeping you safe. Get your ass out of bed, find a copy of the Constitution and READ IT. After that, read the Bill of Rights. Then make sure your kids read them too, because if you're the main influence on them while your husband is overseas, they are obviously not learning about this country's real founding principles, or how to be good Americans. Or basic manners, if your post is any indication.

Obama sent your husband to the wrong war in Iraq?

You spit on our flag every time you spew your divisive hatred. Take a day and read the United States Constitution. Get to know it and understand it. It is actually a lot more important than our flag which symbolizes our country, but unlike the Constitution does not define what it stands for legally. After reading it carefully go back over the Bush Administration's actions and ask yourself if Bush every violated it.

If you are honest with yourself you will see that he did on numerous occasions and if you have any trouble understanding the document itself there is plenty of online help.

Tell your husband to please come home in one piece and for Pete's sake GET A GRIP!

It's unpatriotic to question the President-Elect. It's unpatriotic to question leadership in a time of war. Why do you hate America?

If you're not with us, you're against us. Why are you a terrorist?

Since you've been Republican and eschew their values, there's another one. Now shut the fuck up, serve YOUR BLACK PRESIDENT, and smile. Cause this is the bed you lay in, fucker, for your silent complacency for the past 8 years.

I can see why your husband would choose going back to Iraq rather than staying with you from one thread already.

Reading a lot of the comments above, I have to remind myself that most of these comments are coming from loving liberals and not some "right wing" hate site. It just amazes me how people can speak freely about love and equality and in the same breath spout out "restrict free speech" and make physical threats against someone or some party who holds views opposite them:

"No . These f***ers need to understand ANYTHING happens to any Obamas we will extract their due punishment times ten over. There will be NO safe harbors in America not a threat but rather an observation,Got it rush, shane, sarah."

Look at yourself in the mirror and see if you can honestly say "I don't hate and I respect all other views" I bet you can't because you hate just as much as the "right wingers", only your hate is "holy!" so therefore it is just and right.

I think it is reality check time for most of the people posting on this blog, except for "you dems make me sick" by respectforamerica as they are already living in the real world.

I agree. I think that there is plenty of vitriol on both sides and i encourage people to stick with existing laws and punishments for any crimes committed by anyone and to stop spewing so much anger around.

If this was the case then 3/4 of you liberals would have been locked a long time ago for the hate speech you spewed against the republicans. Oh yea I forgot its only free speech if people agree with you and hate speech if they don't. Be careful who you give your power to because it can be turned against you. "Under socialism production is entirely directed by the orders of the central board of production management. The whole nation is an industrial army . . . and each citizen is bound to obey his superiors orders." Ludwig Von Mises. Some of you need to study his work.

Oops, fed a troll a nugget.

From McDonald's?

How CRUEL!!!!

You just gave a great description of what America is like already.

But you get my vote for Troll of the Week.

Not yet but we are headed that way real quick. Thank you for your vote I am truly honored.

Us "liberals" can't hold a candle to you anti-American right wing fascists when it comes to hate speech...
Y'all got that down to science.

Remember that in january its our Secret Service and they'll be after anyone making threats against Obama for sure.
What concerns me more as an African-American is Obama picking Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff instead of the MANY qualified African Americans. Rahm is a fighter but I expected more diversity right away in cabinet choices. I expect that we will have four top cabinet posts given to African Americans, or there is some disaponment early on. Still confident though, its our house now

just remember, he is half white so he might have some racist blood in him.

Wouldn't that be racist ? To make several in his cabinet African Americans? he needs true diversity, white black, hispanic, asian, etc..not load it all up with blacks only..thats as bad as before

more than diversity in his selection i want him to select among the best minds available. let them be judged by their character and ability rather than the color of their skin.

Skin color matters not to this guy...
We need the best of the best.
Race, I dare say, won't be an issue in this administration...of course, the wing-nuts will do their level best to make it one.

obama was elected so he can run the government as he said he would. he didnt say anything about quotas in the cabinet.

he has the mandate to choose whoever he needs and trust to make good his promises.

this is a guy who didnt use affirmative action to get into an ivy league school. so you cant expect him to use his privilege to appoint just to satisfy interest groups' desire to be represented in the cabinet. remember at harvard law review, out of many editor positions, he only appointed one African-american.

Missy Clinton said more negative, nasty, racist junk than all the republicans combined..

You stand by that?
I think you're mistaken.

It’s no surprise that the divisive message of Palin’s campaign rallies would lead to an increase in the threat of racist violence against Obama. It was the acting out by these cretins of the age old core emotion of racism – the threat to the purity of the sainted white woman posed by the lust of the beastly black man. All it took to push some of these psychos over the line was to hear Sarah talk about her “love for this great country” and Obama’s “terrorist buddies” and the unconscious connection with generation after generation of hatred was ignited. The only thing worse about Palin having caused this situation is the fact that, without a doubt, she would never understand her culpability for anything that might have happened and would gladly do it all again.

is that S'Airhead Palin soon encounters a wolf that shoots back!

Ya know what separates Obama from McCain/Palin? He has enough self-respect to be able to feel shame if he were to say something, purely for political gain, that everyone with half a brain would know is BS. And for all you republican trolls on this site, you are too stupid to realize that you are stupid.

This bimbo's 15 minutes are up. please allow her to sink slowly into the horizon.

I'm hopin I never have to hear her tinny, whiney, nasally, patronizing,
voice again.
EVER!

OH yes, almost forgot. How ignorant are the people of Alaska, you know that state where men are rough and tough and the women are even rougher and tougher, didn't they just elect a convicted felon back into office and you betcha, they support Sarah "I can see Russia from my back porch." Pallin. Alaska, you would have supported Bush again had he run, right? And you would have been only too happy to send your sons and daughters to kill and die in support of his private war. right?

Take care Bush still has time left in office and I get the feeling he hasn't finished trying to wreck this country more than he has done already..with your Alaskan approval by the way. He did it and now we hold Obama responsible for fixing it and fast. Can you spell IGNORANCE?

Somewhere between Kansas & Alabama....with special mention of South Dakota

You have to remember hypocrisy flows like the Salmon there...the single largest corporate socialism/welfare state in the union, ExxonMobil's exclusive provincial municipality, and a haven for white flight & end timer loon bats.

Why Christy Harvey from Center for American Progress picked that place, I'll never understand. I can see getting burnt out on D.C. and wanting to get far away from there, but why not the west coast, where you have sanity & reality surrounding you (for the most part)????

About Alaska...kinda reinforces your statement.
Not a bunch of critical thinkers up there.

Palin proved to the entire world that she is just another typical DUMB Reslug that spews hatred and bigotry to the ignorant, uneducated Reslug morons that suck up this vile crap.

Despite all the reporting by both the media and Secret Service on this, Caribou Barbie still has not apologized for stirring up hatred and bigotry at her rallies. In fact, she's developed a persecution-complex through it all.

...if anything happens to obama.

she's thoughtless and careless in her speech. are the republicans really that dumb to hitch their future on her tarnished star?

Good god, Sarah Palin makes my teeth itch. Can we please send her to some remote corner of the earth, like Mongolia, or the CW?

On the bright side: Good news from “the science” about why i have to get absolutely hosed every night to deal with Palin and her ilk. It’s because i’m so smrt!

i hope somebody in any of her future interviews will ask her about this so she can reflect on what she says. she seems to lack introspection which is i think one of the causes of her persistent ignorance.
