Jon Stewart had a crib note on his hand tonight. It said "make weird face" and "curse". haha Then Cobert noted that palin said it was OK for rush to use the r-word because it was satire. So then he used satire by saying "sarah palin is a f**king retard" to thunderous applause from the audience. lol

Run for your lives, people!

Karen's picture

We gravitate towards similars to feel less alone,
And yet we crave our privacy, a space that’s all our own.

But not all humans manifest this dissonance the same,
For liberals and conservatives in fact have different brains.

The former tend to judge a person solely on his mind,
The latter cannot overlook the looks of other kinds.

Conservatives maintain the sense that we should think the same,
While liberals think diversity’s the main rule of the game.

And so they go their separate ways, to let each other be,
For even though it may seem odd, they each want liberty.

But, sadly, since they can’t escape each other altogether,
They do conclude, and then they brood, that all their lives are tethered.

And then they talk, and talk, and talk to maximize their freedom,
But neither speaks the other’s language. Translators? They need ‘em!

Liberals think that “freedom” means one should be left alone,
To gravitate towards similars completely on one’s own.

So minds that seem to think alike can seek each other out,
Without regard for race or sex, since that’s what life’s about.

Their rivals think that liberals want perverse impunity,
That rights belong not just to persons, but communities.

When they say “freedom” they don’t think, “Oh well, to each his own,”
“The people” not “the person” is the one to leave alone.

Conservatives believe the state can only interfere,
With local customs and traditions that they hold quite dear.

Strengthening the state, they feel, will only bring them pain,
Since tradition's what they really want the freedom to maintain.

Liberals on the other hand consider a strong state,
Something freedom-loving folks should really celebrate.

Efficient states can guarantee a certain minimum,
Of access to necessities for each and every one.

By doing so, the liberals say, the state can set the stage,
For happy individuals to feel they're not caged.

But, when one side speaks of freedom, well, the other does not hear,
Instead they see a contradiction, and they learn to fear.

Eventually, each side regards the other as a threat,
And once they do, on freedom's death becomes the way to bet.

Frightened people don't maintain their liberty at all,
They panic to protect their kind, and let their freedoms fall.

For what both really crave is just to feel less alone,
In privacy among the folks they like to call their own.

I think Barack Obama sees as much as head of state,
I just hope his style of leading's not too little and too late.

RE:

That was cool to see--thanks. I remember when I used to be able to write fairly well, and at 47, I vacillate between admiring people for still practicing the art of writing and beating my self for remembering another thing for which my peak has been overshot.

Now I'm lucky if I proofread blog posts before sending. But given that Palin can successfully woo many with Cliff Notes on her palm to dolts who pay to hear her drone, SOMEBODY has to keep writing alive.
Better you than her. Or me.

Keep it up.

(BTW-- FUCK Blogspot and Google ID mgmt. I just don't know...)

most of these republicans are the least educated people in the world. I still haven't seen any real numbers on the attendance of the tea party convention. Usually they are out there early with their fake numbers. I've seen estimate from 600, 800 to 1100. I'm still curious.

Tax the Rich's picture

Nobody knows for sure, because they can not count above twenty with any accuracy.

If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.

that the MSM would report it except I think the numbers were really low. ABC reported Friday that there was about 600 there. It should be easy to find out how much space was rented for the main events and how many people could fit into the allocated area.

Brown Man ATL's picture

The Brown Man is back on YouTube.

The blog post I re-posted from July last week, titled "Racial Discrimination: The Reality Show" has joined the rest of my recent pieces on the Brown Man Thinking Hard channel on YouTube.

Perspective is one of the items that is missing from the national conversation on race. It is the lack of interest in fully appreciating the African American point of view when it comes to racial issues that has so many Americans clamoring for a "post-racial America", where they can conveniently ignore or sidestep many of the truths that Americas history of discrimination contains.

It's had me kind of hot lately.

So you know me - I had to say something about it.

Enjoy.

they (r) want us to hate palin. i'm just bored with her. she serves no purpose but to spew her prefabricated linguistic nonsense. she's one of the prime example's of what's wrong with this country opportunistic klown's. tell people what they think they want to hear to justify their ignorance. personally, i'm sick of palin.

ron's picture

I've been sick of her for a long, long time. If she only had about 600 people there, why all the MSM coverage?

600-1000 PAYING mostly elderly white people in Nashville is a fuckin' seminar at the convention center for work-at-home business scams, NOT a political movement!!

The MSM forces her on us 24 / 7 , nothing at all but a simpleton / fake who's speeches and book are absolute drivel , draws crowds of maybe 400 , people that are even simpler and dumber than she is . It's madness. I'm sick of it too , I think most people are .I've been saying that the Repugs have only one "virtue" , greed , I was wrong , they have two , greed and stupidity .

Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .

She's another corporate whore.

constituent's picture

the notion palin will be the president of this country is ridiculous. actually, i believe she's fully aware she will never run for the highest office in the land. palin is just (bread and circus) a cheerleader that provides the raw meat for people that don't realize they are being had.......like the rest of us. palin is just another neoCON/opportunistic klown. palin is being used to help maintain the two party/dualism system while "we the people" are losing are freedoms/democracy. palin is an example that government indeed may be the problem.

Ooops.

If the Democrats don't learn from W, and from Scott Brown beating Martha Coakley, we're damn well gonna end up with President Wasilla.

Floridiot's picture

we elected wubble-u either time, first time there was massive disenfranchisement of people in Florida along with butterfly ballots made with bad card stock. Ohio was a simple "we count the votes so you don't have to" routine.

Really! I Just now saw a weather report about the blizzard in DC on the Weather Channel. They told how the Fed Gov was giving their employees not one but two Snow Days! And it's costing millions! Later, when the bimbo was waving at a US map and talking about storms, she wondered aloud if the Fed Employees in DC would get another million dollar "Snow Day" when the next storm arrives on Wednesday.

That's the corporate message: Our country's recession and employment problems are due to the Deficit, and the Deficit is due to Social Security and Medicaid, and other "entitlements" (that people pay for, btw).

God, they make me sick.

ian m's picture

As Canadians coming back through Arkansas from a visit to Texas a few years ago we were puzzled that what, in Toronto, would be categorized as a light dusting of snow, had the capacity to shut down one of the state's main traffic arteries. We were frustrated and cursing Arkansas' unreadiness and remarking on how much it would cost the state's economy till we gained some perspective and realized that the cost of having the snow readiness infrastructure of a northern climate would be far greater than the cost of waiting a day for the snow to melt on its own.

Anyone want pancreatic cancer from sugary soft drinks? Considering they're so paranoid about Obama wanting to reform health care out in the open, you'd think Republicans would at least want to check him with a better solution. Murtha ended up being a victim to the "best" health care in the world. The U.S. covered up letters which would have detered them from pardoning members of the infamous Japanese Unit 731 bio-warfare unit of WW2. The Dow's down. Sebellius demands answers' on Blue Cross' recent attempt to price-rape consumers. Iran's new deal. Shelby finally relinquished his blocks, but only in exchange for some pork. Some hospitals are charging Haitian . Why is the U.S. suddenly cutting off AIDS-related funding to Africa?

Saw in the paper this morning where Queen Esther gave a speech here in California. She spoke to a convention of loggers (wonder how much she got paid?) anyway, she held forth on her expertise on global warming. My God, this woman is such a fucking idiot. I hope to hell they get some kind of an investigation going up in Alaska on her secessionist son of a bitch of a husband's role in her brief tenure. If Federal money was involved why isn't the FBI up there?

I have an honest question:

Obama just threatened to make recess appointments if Congress didn't start getting people through the confirmation process. My question is that Congress was able to prevent Bush from making recess appointments after the Dems won back Congress by keeping a skeleton set of Senators in the Senate to prevent Bush from appointing anyone.

What is to prevent the Repubs from doing the same thing? Or is it a factor that the Dems are the majority party and the minority party can't do the same thing?
