Shorter John Boehner: I have no control whatsoever over my crazy, wingnut, TeaBircher caucus, so I'm not going to say anything that might upset them. Bob Schieffer did his best to try to get Boehner to tell him if he supports giving undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship, and he wasn't biting.
Boehner declines to share position on pathway to citizenship:
Speaker John Boehner on Sunday declined to state whether he supports a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, saying that voicing his personal opinion would make it "harder for us to get a bill."
The Ohio Republican also refused to answer whether he would bring an immigration measure to the floor that includes a citizenship process.
"I"m not going to predict what's going to be on the floor and what's not going to be on the floor," Boehner said in an interview with CBS's "Face the Nation."
"I can't do that and I don't want to do that. My job in this process is to facilitate a discussion."
He added that there are "certain things" he'd like to see accomplished, but that it's "not going to be about me."
