I'm shocked it's this high really.

A new PPIC Poll in California shows Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) job approval rating dropped to a new low of 28%.

The last time a California governor's approval rating was that low was in 2003 when then-Gov. Gray Davis faced a recall election and was in a budget standoff with the Legislature.
A record-low 14% of Californians believe the state is headed in the right direction.

Can we find out who the 14% are that believe CA is headed in the right direction.
Atrios reminds us about the media obbsession over Arnold.

It's important to remember just how large a role our Village media had in promoting Arnold back in the day.

I wonder how many people that wanted to change the constitution so the Terminator could run for president now are birthers.

Why would any one claim to, "ICPP?"

"I wonder how many people that wanted to change the constitution so the Terminator could run for president now are birthers."

like all of them.

I do like how the same people who wanted to change the Constitution to allow foreign-born citizens to run for president when arnold was the next big thing now want to change the Constitution to demand to see a birth certificate now that obama IS president.

I remember when I first heard that Arnold was going to run for gov of California and I actually thought it was a joke. Maybe it was.

The whole Arnold thing was a few rich people looking out for themselves, gaming a whole bunch of Thuglicans looking out for for themselves. The result is always incompetence or more gaming of government by unqualified represetatives.

These same people who wanted to change the constitution for Arnold are in the ranks of the birthers. Enough said.

Among those disapproving of Arnold are Republicans who think he did not cut spending enough. Again, enough said.

I guess presiding over a state as it crashes and burns will bring your poll numbers down a bit.
Meanwhile, in more amusing news.

Wow

I did NOT need to see that. Thanks lNm!

When we were returning home today we were listening to the Love Doctors and they were talking about this in detail and laughing like crazy.

Well...my work is done here.
G'night folks!

Y'all have a goodun mmkay!

I am gonna go and drink sorrows away...and complain about not being able to find a decent roommate to whatever poor bastard that listens.
Wish me luck!

I reserve comment until I've seen a photo of the horse.

what the horse was wearing! She was ASKING for it!
Flicking her tail this way and that in a VERY suggestive manner...
Any creep on the street a 3am would pick that up! Right Billo?

He was created, not born.

The double-standard right-wing authoritarians display when defending Hollywood actors they consider among "their own" is yet another aspect of their repulsive nature. They love Reagan, Fred Thompson, Governor Freeze, Ron Silver -- any Hollywood actor who sides with them, no matter how cynically. They'll say, "He didn't let himself get corrupted by Hollywood -- he's still the same old small-town good person!" Which ties back to their anti-urban bigotry...

It's all one big stinky wad of chewing gum, stuck to the sole of this country...

I'll get a scraper.

Maybe Arnold is thinking about pulling a Palin and just walking away.

If only. By the way, who were the people behind the recall of Gray Davis?

One of them was CRAZY MELONIE MORGAN...who was FIRED from right-wing radio KSFO!

Because repealing prop 13 is a political third rail even though it is the right thing to do. LOSER.

about this country.

My son's dumbass stoner friends thought it would be "cool" to vote for "The Terminator" and thus registered to vote based on that alone.

Any questions?

Why do we always get the government we deserve?

I see

is it time for another recall vote yet? wasn't the states fiscal situation the basis for the repube recall vote takeover of the state? i'm just asking.

It was partially because of the states fiscal situation, but it was largely because of the way the state was hog tied and raped by the energy companies. Those that wanted to recall Davis, blamed him for those problems and it resonated enough with the voters that he was recalled. In the end, Dave was vindicated in that the energy companies were found to have been gaming the system to jack up prices.

Yes, and arnie took meetings with his good buddy, ken lay. Oh what a tangled web we weave...

"Again, everyone understands we are running out of money," he told reporters. "We cannot continue promising people things that we cannot deliver on."

He sure didn't have a problem delivering 500 Million in tax benefits to Tinsel Town on Monday.

"He looks like he's been hitting the gym."

Sigh.

Government we deserve, indeed.

realclearpolitics, congressional approval numbers aren't exactly awe inspiring either with over 60% disapproving. Perhaps people are waking from their slumber and realizing almost 100% of these political hacks are nothing more than corporate lackeys.

COME BACK GRAY DAVIS -- ALL IS FORGIVEN!!!!!

not that i like to kick a guy when he is down... but, afterall, we are talking about a GOP gov...

so... kick, kick, kick

http://www.alternet.org/story/16902

Now, 34 pages of internal Enron memoranda have just come through this reporter's fax machine that tell all about the tryst between Maria's husband and the corporate con men. It turns out that Schwarzenegger knowingly joined the hush-hush encounter as part of a campaign to sabotage a Davis-Bustamante plan to make Enron and other power pirates then ravaging California pay back the $9 billion in illicit profits they carried off.

schwarzenegger got away with murder in his dealings with enron, and i don't think it is too late to make him answer the charges. kick, kick, kick

Perhaps it's time for a Total Recall. He can always go back to acting, at least he was better at acting than governing. If only marginally better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILqe_mmtBrE

Anybody read the original by Dick? Badly butchered by Hollywood, of course. Title was "We can Remember It for You Wholesale"

My friend in CA, a nurse, is absolutely distraught. Her job is safe but she said that children will die, ER's will be overrun. I think she is being a little dramatic about it, but she insists that this is not a scare tactic like the Republicans are using on Health Care Reform. Governator cut some of the only programs that give health care and prevention to the poor and now many people just won't be able to get it. The homeless won't bother to get it. Many only trust the clinic workers.

To ad a little bit of realistic fear factor into what is happening out there, think about the flu. People who might have gone to a clinic for free shots can't get them, and they get sick and it spreads. There is lost work and school time and hospitals have to take in people who have the flu when they could have used their resources for people with other issues.

I understand the reality of the situation. Cuts had to come from somewhere. There are things you can cut and things you can't. Before you take away health care and shelters you must take a long, hard look at things like closing parks. A park will do fine without people in it. In fact, some of the national and state parks in this country might improve with a little downtime as nature grows undisturbed. Even a few months helps biodiversity. But if people are not healthy they won't be able to enjoy the park anyway.

'I think she is being a little dramatic about it...'

Frankly, I don't think you can understate the horror that will ensue for the young, disabled, the abused, and the elderly.

'Cuts had to come from somewhere.'

True enough, but you need to start from the top, not the bottom--unless of course, you're a governor who believes in the New World Order where the Masters of the Universe get simply ALL THE LOOT, and the rest of us, starting with the most vulnerable, get absolutely nothing.

Ethics, morality, rationality, and the best of what's been America all be damned--arnie and his buddies are entitled and they're gonna collect.

couldn't wait to get rid of a boring governor like Gray Davis and get themselves a movie star to play governor must wonder if they made a deal with the devil. So, I'm guessing that the GOP no longer wants to change the constitution so that a foreign-born like Arnold can run for the presidency.

Had to one up them crazy squareheads up in MN. Jesse Ventura! Screw Ventura! We'll elect his boss!

"We cannot continue promising people things that we cannot deliver on."

This is what Obama should be saying but you know how well that would fly.

Poor CA. You voted yourself one cool government. No taxes can be collected, and no one can change anything by legislation, except, you guessed it, We, the People.... Such great work! So cooperative! Looks like the government needs to be redesigned by the people, by initiative. It would need to move the capitol to a small town where every new empty suit that moves to town can be tracked and monitored to see if they are enemies of the state. Get Gray Davis back as he was the last governor that had any sense of how screwed up the state is.

... Girly-Gov is in free fall.

...in the right direction.

Those would be the same 14% who believe that getting a diagnosis of late stage pancreatic cancer is a sign of excellent health or discovering that the Earth is going to be hit by a gigantic rogue asteroid tomorrow is a great reason to buy a five year certificate of deposit today. Talk about clueless.

Unlike Bush, who always clung to a hardcore group of dead end Republicans, Schwarzenegger can't count on the Republican base to support him, since that base has every reason to hate him -- he's not a true conservative (or any kind of conservative, for that matter). So, who are his 28%? They must be a remarkably strange group of the terminally stupid, the appallingly ignorant, and people in persistent vegetative states who reflexively blink one through five times when asked a poll question.

The 14% figure might basically correspond to those Californians who are libertarians.

The blame of our disastrous economic collapse is the idiotic and failed Republican Conservative policies. Schwarzenegger is still implementing those same stupid and dangerous conservative policies because he is, was and always will be a Wingnut Republican despite trying to deceive us by supporting some progressive policies by mouth only. Anybody who trusts or votes Republican is committing financial suicide.

Here's some dirt on Schwarzenegger, the rat who would be King.

" "What fascinated Arnold was money and power, and what money and power bestow on an individual," said George Butler, producer and director of "Pumping Iron," the 1976 documentary that became Mr. Schwarzenegger's first successful film.

"The past meant nothing to Arnold because it was over," Mr. Butler said. "He never looked over his shoulder. This is a man of bottomless ambition. It's always been there. Nothing's happened in the last few days that hasn't happened before. He sees himself as almost mystically sent to America.""

"The past meant nothing to Arnold because it was over..."

Wow, this was exactly how GW Bush looked at history, when he dismissed the past as unimportant because it happened 'way back when'

I wonder if he's looking better than Arnold at this point..

How CA had a recall election to remove Gray Davis from office? It would seem that his problems now pale in comparison to Arnold's?

Is anyone calling for a recall election now?

Arnold was the Terminator! We can't recall the Terminator! Even if California goes down in flames (so far it is right on target) we can at least say we were taken down by the Terminator!

He may be a great b-movie actor, but he SUCKS when it comes to politics! I don't blame him alone though, I think those in California who cast their votes for an ACTOR share the blame for the demise of this state. Next time, why not just elect a mime, or a unicycle-clown as Governor? buncha idiots!

He's not even that good of an actor. He's totally one note, and if it wasn't for James Cameron, this idiot would be absolutely nowhere. I was watching Collateral Damage on TV last night while surfing (it was possibly Arnold's last feature before he went into politics), and he was awful. It was a totally formulaic film, but the director, Andrew Davis, has actually made a few decent action films (The Fugitive), and actually made the only decent Steven Seagal film (Under Siege). But Davis couldn't make Arnold interesting.

Arnold may have had a future in comedy, playing a straight guy similar to Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun and Airplane! movies (Nielsen was a serious actor before turning to comedy), but that's not going to happen now.

terminator and predator are classics because of arnold

give the man his due

Arnold was cocky and hubristic enough to think the US Senate, the House, and 38 State Legislatures would amend the Constitution just for him so he could run for President.

That was a big if even when the GOP controlled Congress, and now it's not going to happen, period.

He's too old to be an action star (and he wasn't even that good of one), and who would want to watch the man who ruined California?

I was expecting single digits. I was expecting something like Boris Yeltsin numbers at the end of his presidency.

I hear he's doing better than the legislature. In the end, the issue is that people expect the state to deliver more in services than they are willing to pay in taxes.

We've been given this same alchemy at the Federal level. Since the Feds can print money, Bernanke has been using quantitative easing to purchase Federal debt. But, that isn't going to last forever, at least, without some serious inflation. Then, we'll see the same issues, people demanding their government spend more than taxpayers are willing to pay.

i suggest you look at the tax burden of the avg californian before you make brash statements

we pay plenty

and what services do most of us take?

come on...both the legislature and the gov are just nuts

and there never shouldve been a recall of gray davis

The reason Sacramento can't do much in the way of raising revenue isn't just because people don't like taxes, it's the cluster-fuck, state-killing Prop 13 with it's requirement for a super majority to pass any new taxes. So basically because of that, Sacramento can only make cuts to scrape together some money.

Arnold is the WORST GOVENOR California has ever seen...maybe you can play Govenor in the movies, but in real life with real people...He STINKS!!!

go back to making shitty action movies with cheeseball one liners?

Got nothing more to add bout the "govinator" or the "bankruptinator" as i should call him but i was wondering bout the restriction of presidents to american born only.. i am wondering why after all the time of the republic's existance that rule is still in force i mean why are citizens who may have been in america for most of their lives and may of made many contributions to it not allowed to go for the highest office?

it seems here even liberals dont wanna foreign born people no matter how honorable or worthy they may be being allowed to run? Seems illogical to me but just wondering what people's thoughts here were on that..
