Brent Bozell caught as a hypocrite on Obama: Obama the Socialist, Obama the Reaganite
By John Amato Sunday Nov 09, 2008 12:00pmFor weeks the dying Conservatives attacked Obama as being a Socialist when it came to his economic philosophy, but once it became apparent that he was going to win, suddenly he became a Reaganite.
There is a reason why Brent Bozell made it onto my "Irrelevant" list. With Obama we have a chance for some much needed change, with Bozell it's more of the same. The man talks out both sides of his neck constantly.
Check this clip out.
On America's Newsroom, Media Research Center president L. Brent Bozell III claimed that President-elect Barack Obama "ran as a Reaganite" and "won over ... the public as a fiscal conservative." But less than two weeks earlier, Bozell accused Obama of espousing "socialism" throughout the "entirety of the campaign."
Wow, in just two weeks:
BOZELL: But when you go through the entirety of the campaign saying the kind of things that you're saying in the debates, where on, for every question, you've got a redistribution of wealth answer, where you've got socialism, where you've got the government controlling every aspect of life. You don't expect a reporter to ask you, "Is this socialism?" Because the media don't ask that question. Well, some uppity reporter did -- and look what happened, they cancelled her. And, by the way, she won't be going to the ball, either.
BOZELL: No, it hasn't. Look at the exit polling. The number one issue was the economy, nothing came close. The American people are fiscally conservative, and the fascinating thing, Bill, is that Barack Obama ran as a Reaganite and won over the fiscal -- the public as a fiscal conservative. That's what the polling data shows.
BOZELL: Well, number one is that the public is conservative; number two, Barack Obama won as a conservative. That means that Barack Obama does not have the mandate to enact the left-wing agenda he wants to enact. He didn't run on it, he ran from it. So, this is not necessarily bad news for conservatives.
Every time I see this happen I flash on the incredible scene in "Chinatown."
Evelyn Mulwray: She's my daughter.
[Gittes slaps Evelyn]
Jake Gittes: I said I want the truth!
Evelyn Mulwray: She's my sister...
[slap]
Evelyn Mulwray: She's my daughter...
[slap]
Evelyn Mulwray: My sister, my daughter.
[More slaps]
Jake Gittes: I said I want the truth!
Evelyn Mulwray: She's my sister AND my daughter!
His neck has got to be aching right about now. Did he use heat or ice to ease the pain?

Just saw video on rawstory.com of dumbass Rethug Eric Cantor spouting off on FauxNews about how his party can run on the "sanctity of marriage" and win back the American electorate. Tell me, how fucking delusional does a person have to get before they drag you off in a strait jacket and commit you to an insane asylum? It's almost as funny as when Sen. Jon Kyl (Dickhead-AZ.) said that Obama had to appoint RW Supremos or face the wrath of the "center-right" American people and the powerful Republican coalition in the Senate. Hey, Jon, when you finally wake up, GO FUCK YOURSELF! Hey, remember the "Gang of 14". Sounded like a good idea at the time, didn't it, Jon? Until it bites you in the ass. So nice to have dimbos like Kyl, Cantor, Pearce, Boehner and the rest to make the Dems look soooooo good to the public. I can only hope they force them to filibuster in front of the TV cameras while Dems hold press conferences about the wonderful legislation the Rethugs are trying to keep the Obama administration from implementing. One great thing about these RW/Christianist Rethugs: they never remember the past, and they never think about the future.
Gingrich/Palin 08!
Forward into the 12th Century!!!
One wonders how many members of that Gang of 14, will now come forward to break Republican filibusters on Obama's judicial nominees? I hope C&L will be on top of it to keep track.
If they want to protect the sanctity of marriage, why not just ban divorce? Or make it a lot more difficult to get divorced. Wasn't it Ronald Reagan who made it easier for people to divorce?
Another 2nd generation conservative welfare queen who never worked a day in his life. Bozo, like bloody Bill, is paid $$$$ to be completely wrong about everything, in the pursuit of the corporate fascist GOP state.
How nice to be cluelessly incompetent everyday of your life, and get paid millions for it because of daddy's connections. Just GWB! They all need to be put into a 99.999% retroactive tax bracket.
Campaign spin: "Don't be fooled by what Obama's saying. He's really a socialist."
Post-election spin: "Obama won by pretending to be a Reaganite."
Those aren't contradictory. Bozell is wrong, of course (Reagan never promised to tax the rich, provide health care for all, or achieve energy independence), but he's not inconsistent.
Similarly, Bush was a hard-line radical. But his "wins" don't suggest the voters want hard-line radicalism because Bush always ran as a moderate.
Bozell explicitly stated that Obama was openly socialist during the campaign. The other conservatives (from what I've seen) aren't that stupid, but turned to obscure years-old interviews to claim socialism.
Campaign spin: "Don't be fooled by what Obama's saying. He's really a socialist."
You made that up yourself, I remember nothing of the sort. In lockstep, Republicans accused Obama of being a Socialist for wanting to return to progressive taxation, that was the spin and that's what Bozell was talking about before the election.
And what "hard line radical" positions do Liberals or Democrats support? Be specific. I'll bet you can't come up with one that isn't a far right mischaracterization of Democratic policy positions.
Just as we say that Bush isn't what he campaigned as, so do republicans say that Obama isn't what he campaigned as.
Why bring up all those past associations and old speeches and say that we don't know who Obama is? It's because Obama's campaign didn't have enough socialism in it, so they had to import it from elsewhere.
Eliminate lobbying by anyone who receives federal money.
Nationalize, in its entirety, the banking system, in earnest, and give the fat cat crooks their walking papers, without golden parachutes OR, prosecute them.
Nationalize, in its entirety, the health care payment system, with private providers.
Nationalize, in its entirety, the military and cut it in half. Cut out the private interest.
I would not be finished there, but it would be a good start.
These Faux goofballs are off the wall. They have WAY too much time to fill and only idiocy to fill it with.
look at abortion rights, america is not socially conservative. center right fiscal conservative, center left socially.
The evidence clearly shows that the public prefer Democrats on economic issues. How can you conclude that the public voted for Obama while claiming the economy as their top issue that they favor economic Conservatism. It makes no sense.
On issue after issue, the public shows itself to be left of center on economic policies such as regulation, social spending and taxes.
Postelection poll results contradict media claims that U.S. is a "center-right" country
People are not "center right" fiscally. Nobody in this country cares about taxes. It is just a bogeyman wedge issue. It was so far down in terms of what people cared about in exit poles. Also, I heard absolutely no one care or even bring up the whole issue of running big budget deficits during the entire election. This is a entirely debtor nation, people's saving rates are zero. Everyone in this country runs up their own debt with credit cards and mortgages.
There is no center right fiscal thinking at all in this country.
Nobody buys into this Friedman top down economic policy, not even the Republican party.
The whole "socialist" thing was political theater, and most intelligent people saw through it. Obama has always been center-right, that's why he appeals to the JPM crowd and was acceptable to the mainstream.
Anybody who thinks there is much difference between the Republican and Democratic parties (on economic issues) in this country is smoking crack. Obama is here to keep the current corrupt fiat money system barely functioning until a new borrow-and-spend Ponzi scheme is concocted to create a new "boom" before the next bust.
"Anybody who thinks there is much difference between the Republican and Democratic parties (on economic issues) in this country is smoking crack."
Did you just happen to wake up after eight years? I classify myself as a Socialist but even I can distinguish the difference between the economic Liberalism and Conservatism.
Yes, both are capitalist ideologies, but it's pretty easy to see, after eight years of the Bush regime, that there's a significant difference. Of course Liberals aren't going to give us universal higher education, nationalize the energy, transportation and financial sectors, but that doesn't make them indistinguishable from Conservatives.
is not a mainstream Republican, but a radical follower of Leo Strauss and a bit of Uncle Milty thrown in.
Reagan, Nixon and Ike (+Bush 41) look like socialists compared to Bush, Jr.
Mostly, the Reps and Dems play alternating 'good cop - bad cop,' a game wherein the Republicans spend (a lot of borrowed) money, then leave it to the Democrats to raise taxes.
The only difference is to whom the parties funnel the Treasury's largess.
The Corporate Megs care about taxes, Phillip. They care about playing the capitalism game without ceding too much of their wealth and power. They care about keeping all the non-wealthy peons chasing after the wealth carrot and buying their obfuscating and histrionic rhetoric (ne Bloody Bill, et. al) about capitalism being the only acceptable economic behavior (look at what a delicate tightrope they walk with "communist" China).
The biggest lie out of this guy's mouth? That anyone in this nation is fiscally conservative. Wow! After hearing that whopper, I can't lend credence to anything else this bozo might say.
Just consider Bozell 1, 2 and 3 prototypes. Eventually they may get a production model.
I hope if they are still in business after they are cut off from the WH, they keep bring the same stupid pundits on.
.
TEN TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT = FISCAL CONSERVATIVE?
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!1111
.
One more, for starters: Nationalize the entire energy sector at every level above the local garage.
To Brent Bozell: Get bent, Bozo.
Isn't reaganite what they use when they want to kill Superman?
"Is this socialism?" Because the media don't ask that question. Well, some uppity reporter did -- and look what happened, they cancelled her."
I had no idea that Obama's uppity attitude is so potent that it can actually rub off on innocent by-standers like the above mentioned intrepid reporter. At least Obama's ascension will apparently prompt the 4th Estate into doing their jobs,as I don't recall the last time one of them fired off such an eagerly pointed question at King George.
We all know these neocon/fascist types are not good at accepting defeat NOR at accepting any responsibility for wrong doing or failure.
This diddo head is simply spewing the right wing "la-la land" mental voices. It's amazing that they are so far off the reality planet when they rationalize their f*cked up world...but hey, that's OK.
Let them think what they want. If they want to think they won...fine by me. If they want to think President-elect Obama is a dark skinned ronnie "Alzheimer" reagan....go for it. They are in another orbit other than reality, and they do no harm.
I't almost amusing to listen to these nut balls rationalize the spanking they just got in Congress (in BOTH houses) AND in the White House.
Yes nutball.....you won. Sure you did. (snark, snark!)
with popularly supported reforms, will continue to obstruct any proposed changes, will not disavow 'eliminationist' rhetorics from their knuckle-dragging, prognathous-jawed, mono-browed base, and will attempt to bring impeachment charges in Obama's first term.
Anybody wanna bet I'm wrong?
LOL! Sorry thats a sucker's bet.
They're already being douchebags.
Right-wing Fucknozzleship is a growth industry.
There are SHIT-POTS of money, legions of sinecures, training camps, publishing houses, media centers, and probably opium dens and massage aprlors, all designed to assist the aspiring Neo-Con crackpot. There was a piece on it a couple of months ago in Harper's.
What? You don't READ Harper's?
Really????
Hmmmm...
Ill take the massage aprlors for ten, Wink.
These guys can believe their own BS on this nation being a center right country, but there is no evidence of that. And what does center right mean anyway?
These guys can keep believe this center right BS, but it will not get them anywhere.
Well done, Mr. Amato!
By the way, Media Matters' All Over But the Lying is a fantastic article on how the media's "America is center-right" narrative is plainly absurd.
The phrase "fiscal conservative" must be retired. People who have claimed that phrase have borrowed and spent us into oblivion.
Let's instead call ourselves "fiscally responsible." Whether we're spending on social programs or defense, we have to make sure we can pay for what we're buying, and the programs must actually provide for the general welfare or the common defense. Anything else, whether from the left or the right, is not fiscally responsible.
There's an OUR side? I thought we were the UNITED States of America. Smells like separatist anti-American traitor talk to me. These unpatriotic separatists make me sick. Isn't there something the DOJ can do to restrict their constitutional right to blather such treason?
Brent Boze..zzzzzzzz..zzzzzzzz...zzzzzzzz .... night-night now.
We need to keep an eye on the anti-American machine hiding behind the guise of "Fox News". Be prepared to call the O'Reilly's and Fox News analysts on their sleazy efforts to obstruct the mandate of our new POTUS and the will of WE Americans. It would be un-patriotic - nay, traitorous! - to speak against President Obama in this time of war and regeneration.
Bachmann, is that you?
is one of the most laughable wingnuts ever produced. Compare the Media Research Center to Media Matters to see a marked contrast between what is totally pulled out of one's ass and what is the truth.
A right-wing jackass speaking from both sides of his posterior at the same time!
It ain't new, but it sure is fun to watch!!!
I suggest a lump of "clean coal" in each of the "center right" BS'ers Xmas stockings!

I gotta' hand it Brent Bozell. For such a strong list of contenders, he wins my vote as being the biggest douchebag in America. Whenever I see him I always ask who in the hell is this guy and more importantly, who in the hell thought he was so brilliant that they thought he deserved a soap box? How does an arrogant ass distinguish himself from a sea full of arrogant assholes?
So who says Reagan wasn't a Socialist? What do the RR fan club think the "earned-income tax credit" was all about.
(Listening for the sound of heads exploding ...)
*
For a white conservative pundit , he sure is articulate....dumb as hell, but articulate.
Bozell can suck it.
Brent Bozell is a certified NUT!
Talk about an oxymoron in light of the last two elections.
So he is the Prez of this group. Wow, quite the old feather in his cap. Oh, to be a fly on the wall for that brain trust meeting.
We see the results of their efforts from Mike Pence and Eric Cantor, the new #2 and #3, on Faux News? right on schedule.
"You build those conservative solutions, Chris, on the same time-honored principles of limited government, a belief in free markets, in the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage. There were three state referendums on marriage ... all three carried. The vitality of the conservative movement around the country is very real," said Pence.
Keep it up guys.
Our pal Brent there, never mentioned George Bush or Dick Cheney?
Didn't hear him name Larry Craig, David Vitter or Ted Stevens?
Odd Brent doesn't want to give all the names of the so called big Conservative leaders? How are their republican legions going to be able to follow if they are not told who they should follow?
Republicans will embrace obstructionism as they did with Clinton. Merely to find out the country isn't getting scared by the word Liberal anymore and we have seen their conservatism under the Bush Adm and their own oversight in congress when they held majorities and White House was the same results we have seen on Wall Street. When Wall Street governed themselves.
No mandate...??
Uhh... think again, dude...
Gonna go hard right to "take over the country"??
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT...
We just had 8 hard years of hard right. And just remember the EPIC FAILURE it all was.
This election was a COMPLETE REJECTION of all that CRAP!
So, Bozell,
GO BE IRRELEVANT SOMEWHERE ELSE...!!
Criminy. This clown and Pat Buchanan and his sister. Buh Bye.
It's time for someone to sit down with these folks and tell them that their 'services' will no longer be needed. Irrelevant.
Bozo the clown crapped in his pants on election day when he finally figured out that intelligent people won't buy the Reslug bullshit, lies and backward thinking anymore.
In keeping with the Chinatown spirit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXQl_19sx5U
Reagan was never a fiscal conservative.
a human rights worker was being beaten in jail. with every blow the cop called him a 'communist' or a 'socialist'. The man answered, "I am not a communist. I am not a socialist. I believe in democracy, although it's very painful."
