FOX News Ralph Peters basically says the Taliban should excute our captured soldier

Ralph Peters is one of those wacko military hawks that FOX News uses to ramp up the Rambo style militia movement they hold so dear to their hearts. He was prattling on (almost spitting up as he spoke) about how this soldier might be a deserter and if that was the case--he should be executed by the Taliban. Yea, real sane analysis by Peters.
Peters: Now look, Julie, I want to be clear. If, when the facts are in, we find out that through some convoluted chain of events, he really was captured by the Taliban, I'm with him. But, if he walked away from his post and his buddies at wartime... I don't care how hard it sounds, as far as I'm concerned, the Taliban can save us a lot of legal hassles and legal bills.
I couldn't believe my ears, but just minutes ago on "America's News HQ," guest pundit Ralph Peters suggested something to the effect that the Taliban should "save us the headache" and execute captured 23 year-old American soldier Bowe Bergdahl, because "it looks like" Bergdahl deserted his unit. While prefacing his comments by stressing that a military decision should not be made until all of the facts surrounding Bergdahl's capture are determined, Peters then ignored his own advice and encouraged the Taliban to kill this young man. Fox News' Julie Banderas was visibly shocked at the words coming out of Peters' mouth, but did not challenge any of his statements before awkwardly ending the segment.
You might have forgotten that Ralphie boy also thinks the media should be murdered by our troops too. He's a real psycho. Just the kind of pundits FOX loves.

I did a term paper in 1968 for a prowar professor. This was prior to the internet so there may be some things that are now available.
My paper was War Service of Signers of the Declaration of Independence. I found one (1) signer that served in the war. I found no sons of the signers that served at any time.

Latrine rumor current in 1970 in Binh Dinh province. Supposedly an american troop was wounded in a fire fight with the patriots west of Pleiku. A month or so later a convoy from An Khe to QuiNhon found him on the road. He was taken to the evac hospital, where the medical people patched together what the Vietnamese couldn't.
The Vietnamese supposedly told him that he was not their enemy, it was the capitalists. Taken out of hospital for courts martial for collaboration with enemy and discharged from the service with a general discharge. Supposedly the defending officer forced the issue of the discharge being Bad Conduct by threatening to go to the press and wound up being transferred to Thailand.

The most we know at this point is that one of OUR soldiers has been captured by the Taliban. Speculating about the events that led up to his capture do nothing but complicate the issue at hand.
Peters would have us believe that he is possibly a deserter and if so should be executed! First and foremost, this is one of our soldiers, someone's son, brother, father, etc. This begs the question as to what was or is the soldier's state of mind? What would have drove him to make such a deliberate act that would have a high probability of him being killed or captured by the enemy?
Despite what Peters may think, his irresponsible and vile commentary has most certainly done absolutely nothing to improve the situation and only made it worse.

One of our soldiers is in enemy hands and likely to be executed brutally on video any day now, and he takes this as a chance to PERSONALLY ATTACK our soldier? He was a foul-mouthed right wing nut when he served in the 1st Armored Division as battalion S-2. H made enough money off his books to not give a damn who he pissed off while he was on active duty and the result was he didn't make O-6 and took his ball and went to the private sector.
It's precisely these kinds of reckless comments that got him 86'd from the list of advisers to the McCain campaign.

However PFC Bergdahl came into contact with the Taliban, he is now their prisoner - and we need to do whatever we can to get him back. Let OUR justice system deal with him, if needed, afterwards. For Peters to suggest that the Taliban should just execute him to save us the trouble of prosecution is possibly one of the worst things I have ever heard spew forth from Faux. If I didn't know better, I would think that even they wouldn't put up with this oral diarrhea.

Lt. Col. Ralph Peters is a disgrace to whatever uniform he once wore. There is no doubt in my mind that he would not have survived had he pulled this crap on his own men.
In the military unit I served in, this slimeball certainly would have been the recipient of two grenades rolled into his tent. Why two? Well, the first is a warning. You roll it in with the pin in to give him a hint to knock off the chickenshit. Usually, that's enough. But in old Ralph's case he would most assuredly have gotten the second one -- the one with the pin pulled and live. They would probably be picking Peters parts up all over what remained of his tent.
