Huckabee wins the wingnut straw poll
Mike Huckabee is still a favorite among the James Dobson crowd as Sarah Palin was a no show at their Value Voters Summit weekend wingnut jubilee.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the Values Voter Summit's 2012 presidential straw poll Saturday, grabbing nearly 29 percent of the vote in a crowded field.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence each won roughly 12 percent of the 597 votes cast.
Four of the top five candidates addressed religious conservatives at the three-day Values Voter conference in Washington this week — the kind of attendance seen as a significant gesture by activists here, especially in an off-election year. Palin did not make an appearance.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, which hosted the conference, said Saturday that Huckabee had "potential," but stressed that the former governor's strong showing wouldn't translate into automatic support from the FRC's political action committee. "We want a fully-rounded conservative candidate," he said. "Right now, the door's wide open."
If Palin had showed up and winked at the crowd, her base would have responded in kind, but it's tough going to these things for the quitter. She'll be there in a few years and whip the religious conservative base up into a frenzy.
And Huckabee shows off his foreign policy chops by backing the insane John Bolton over the Pentagon and the White House. There you have it...

huckelstilsken will turn gold into dross.

even for a couple seconds was a mistake. I guess that was from Spring in '08 - primary season in NH? "Huck" (not to be confused with Hunk) was looking pretty svelte there - after he lost all that weight for his pres-e-dential run (was that a 10K?) .
I just was flipping channels and caught a few minutes of his show on Faux - (odd the Huck's show is on SUNDAY night). What I noticed is that he has really packed on the pounds again. Got his own big ol' lardass backing him up now - instead of a drummer! Not a healthy kinda' guy - hope he has good health insurance.

The scary part is it could work.
Obama's got a lot of liberals and conservatives pissed at him over health care.
Hey, bipartisanship does work.

So liberals and moderates are going to vote for religious whackos? No way. I know Republicans who are running away from this new version of the GOP.
The problem is they might not vote at all, or split it with a third party.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
True, but I was surprised at how many Republicans I knew who voted for Obama. The last straw was their disgust at the way the crowds were acting at the McCain / Palin rallies and how lots of GOP elected officials were following suit. And this was long before the town hall crazies came to be. I really think that this time around, even if some previous Obama voters stay home, many more Republicans won't have the stomach to vote for what remains of their party.
I think they should take another look at Fred Dalton Thompson. He was just a little slow in the warm up. He should be just about there in 2012.
that Tony Perkins told "I think it was Ed Schultz" that he wasn't republican. Why did he host a republican summitt? I know he wouldn't lie to us because he's a family values guy.

Romney was never going to get anywhere with this bunch. His theory is that ultimately there will be enough non-morons in the GOP to put him over. Good luck with that.
So, Huckabee is running for president. Then, exactly, how long will he keep his nightly show on Faux News? Isn't that a conflict of interest? Or at least a violation of campaign finance laws? We (here in Seattle) had a local radio talk show host who ran for Congress (Dave Ross). He had the decency to take a leave from his show while he campaigned. Oh, my bad. Intimating DECENCY and REPUBLICAN in the same paragraph.
Having said that, Huckabee is the one front-running Rethuglican who worries me. He's not a ranter like the others. He's personable, funny and likable. But his beliefs and policies SUCK!!! We take him lightly at our own peril.
He's almost always wrong, but he's a guy you'd drink a martini with just so long as you kept a seat open between you and him so God could join in.
The Huckster wins the straw poll at the Values Voter Summit?
What a SHOCKER!!!

me-oww!
Unless Huckabee drastically alters his approach to fiscal policy. Maybe he could run as Romney's Veep, but his views on economics are a nightmare for fiscal conservatives.
Since when are the GOP fiscal conservatives? Oh, sorry. Since the election.
But if I'm remember correctly, some of Huckabee's views might benefit the middle class. And that is a cardinal sin.
Sounds too Catholic...

They all say they'll work for the middle class.
What, is that some kind of Wal-Mart thing?
It sounds pretty fucking stupid.

that John Bolton with him being one of the 'top 50' likely to be indicted one day on war crimes, would be toxic to sensible Republicans.
Name one.
can join the army now.
Its would be the honorable thing for the Romney brats to enlist and go die for Jebus and the 'fatherland' in Afghanistan.
It just means wingnuts don't like women...sorry Sarah.
Hucakbee doesn't believe in evolution. That should get him a few votes (like 45%).

And we're all expected to take the "Values Voters" interpretation of the word values.
Well, he makes George W. Bush look like a Rhodes Scholar.
Huckabee wants to be the father figure. he wants to be a harmless dictator... the benevolent psychopath if you will. The perfect stool pigeon. Another PINO - president in name only - faithful exclusively to the repiglican party and theocratic rule.

I see that the repubs still have no new ideas
Is that the ones that value war, death, destruction, a morality, Just what kind of values do these people have? Insanity?
remember republicanism is a mental illness! fox believes in spreading the crazy around and around and around, I am getting dizzy wow .
What's astounding about those numbers is that the "winner" only managed to scrape up 175 votes and the other losers couldn't even cul through the tea-bag partiers for that elusive 100 vote barrier. I mean, these people obviously have nothing constructive to with their time. It seems like Romney could pay a couple of hundred of them to go vote for him. It's not like they have to pass an IQ test to vote at that think. Geez
Total registrations for the summit was around 1,800, and only 597 votes were cast.
It's amazing - you'd think that since there were '3 million' protesters just the week before in Washington, there should have been tens of thousands of the Illiterati who couldn't find their way out of town and who would have followed the fear pheromones to the summit.
That's right - they are still with that 'value voters' crap slogan that used to work until they let their guard down. Everyone has caught on that republicans have to values, no integrity, no honor.
It's clear that the democrats are they ones that are sticking to traditional values of right, wrong, and Christianity, while administering the agenda of the people.
Repigliscum think slogans will slay the majority by a thousand jabs. They think slogans will save them now.

Just what do they consider "Values"? Seems to me the Right Wing Wackos and "Values" parted long ago, even BEFORE Bush/Cheney and the rest of the lie/invasion/kidnap/torture/terrorist crew got selected by the Supremes.
They support, among other things, all out LIES and liars as heros. They admire disrespect and hate for the President of the United States. They ADORE David Vitter, they fight tooth and nail against punishing or even investigating war crimes because the perps were "acting in good faith" to take out all the non right wing wackos in the world. They laugh at and MOCK disabled people and chuckle gleefully at the thought of all those tens of thousands who will die while they block health care reform because the almighty dollar is much more important. They worship and defend those who are responsible for the electrocution of more of our troops than they will ever admit to, make special laws of immunity for those murderers. The only thing that moves any of THEM to tears is the notion that someone has, maybe, disrespected the memory of Saint Ronnie of California.
They have no feelings whatsoever of sympathy or "HERESY alert", Empathy for all the millions who lost jobs due to outsourcing when THEY subsidized corporate LEECHES to HELP them outsource then BLAME the WORKERS for demanding enough pay to live on because it takes PROFITS away from millionaires and billionaires and smaller campaign checks for themselves. It never even occurs to them that all the billions they've given those CEOs for eliminating jobs over the last 12 years came out of the pockets of those very same workers until they lost those jobs.
We'd need 2000 books to list MOST of the anti-values they stand for.
Chuckleberry wants to eliminate the Constitution all together and force ALL of us to live by the ANTI-VALUES bible he picks and chooses parts from that he thinks give him GODHOOD.
We really need to go back to locking the insane into insane asylums when they HEAR VOICES IN THEIR HEADS that tell them to KILL, MAIM, SLAUGHTER whole populations of people who's philosophies and ideals they disagree with and throw away the keys. Let them PRAY for food, drink, medical care and everything else they need. As the THUGS say, it's not governments "job" to care for them. So lock them all up and let them see how long their God will take care of them without human assistance.
By the way, Chuckleberry, your diet is failing. Did you stop jogging or what? You vying to be the next half ton man? I guess preaching and lecturing others on how to live doesn't burn enough calories HUH?
How quickly we forget! Last year at this time, the same conference had a sponsor booth selling racist 'Obama waffles' see http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chip-berlet/big...
The easiest way to dispose of Huckabee is to refer to him as 'the Republican Jimmy Carter' since so much of his down-home pastoral wisdom is strongly reflective of our former president.
What did we have, something roughly like a (R)47 - (D)53 or (R)43 - (D)57% split in 2008?
They claim out of that (R)47 or 43% in 2008, a (R)27 - 29% fundi ratio?
Though in the straw poll About one-third of the 1,800 registered or 28% percent of the vote, went to the Huckster and Four people tied for second, each with about 12% percent of the vote.(never mind the rest)
Those casting ballots also listed their top issues. They were abortion, protection of religious liberties, same-sex marriage and tax cuts.
My question is... was the 1,800 registered representatives... representative of the aforementioned (R)47 or 43% in 2008 or were they they the 29% fundi segment of the (R)47 or 43% of 2008 estimates?
I think they were the latter? I see them as the "Polarizing Party" of the republican party, not unlike the gang of six.
Study the symptoms not the virus...
He's got one thing that only one other Repub candidate has... real charisma.
Of course the one other candidate on that side with real charisma (you know it's true) is Sarah Palin.
But he's got one thing that she doesn't have... a brain and a silver tongue.
I picked Huckabee as a dangerous man with a future the moment he emerged a few years back. I recognize good when I see it, and he's got that special something, laid back, reasonably smart. Watch out world.
He starts with the religious right in his pocket so he can tack to the center early while lesser lights spend their whole campaign trying to convince the right that they are down with Jesus.
Dangerous dangerous man, smooth as a knife in the back.
Are these the same people screaming that Obama needs to be impeached because he doesn't respect the constitution? But the Huckster has already said that he would want to re-write the constitution?
It's like bizarro world!
THis is meaningless. These same people thought Huckabee was too progressive when he ran last time.
