Joe Lieberman must go
Traitor Joe must go. If things work out well in this election, Bold Progressives has a good plan that I support.
Today, the Hill reports:
One Democratic source said Lieberman is not likely to lose his position in the Democratic caucus, even if the party picks up several seats in next week's election... "There's no sense in cutting off our nose to spite our face," one source said.
When will Democratic leaders realize that every time Joe Lieberman spouts right-wing talking points on TV as a "Democrat" or attends a Republican press conference as a "Democrat," that spites their face big-time?
So here's the plan. Immediately after Election Day, if Democrats don't need Lieberman as their 60th vote in the Senate, progressive activists in Nevada will stand in front of Harry Reid's office for hours and read your letters to Harry Reid about Joe Lieberman.
He is an embarrassment to all Democrats nation wide. Especially since he's ripped Obama while supporting McCain even after Obama supported him. He is a true traitor. Please write a letter to Harry Reid and tell him how you feel..

joe L. will become a republican. he went too far. i realize his vote may be needed but his speech at the
RNC was too much for many.
John McCain has become a symbol of racial hatred and terror-baiting - the quintessential sleaze 'n smear poster boy - a liar, a crook, and a criminal (see auto accident in 1964 which his pappy (ole 'Admiral McCain) covered up.....
we used to think that John McCain had integrity; we now know that he does not. We used to think that John McCain commanded our respect as a War hero; he has now squandered that amount of patriotic respect and converted it into sheer hatred of his tactics and his persona.
John McCain will lose this election and will become even more hated in this country than George Bush - and by his own actions and his own doing.
Here's a great piece on why John McCain has to leave politics and soon:

Joe couldn't win with a "D" behind his name, so he replaced it with an "I". Never the less, he has been an "R" all along.
Now I know what the "R"s stand for when I see them behind someone's name: REPLACE

Someone will read my letter aloud to H. Reid? I declare that this will be one of my best efforts!!
I'm for booting Harry too! Even throw in Nancy complicit with him.
This election will just be the beginnig. After disposing of the corporate fascist party, there are several dems who are going to need to be taken to the woodshed also! The corporate tenticles run long and deep.
Much work to do, but I feel full of energy.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
All 3 of these fuck wads need to be unemployed! Joe's a cocksucking back stabber, Harry is afraid of his own shadow, and Nancy, what the fuck can you say about a true ****?
I'm writing a poem about Joe. What rhymes with douchebag?

When Lieberman attends Democratic caucus meetings where strategy is discussed, how do we know that he isn't acting as a GOP spy, passing secrets to McCain and the Republicans?
That said, your scenario of a possible 60 vote majority without counting Lieberman seems a bit far-fetched. Democrats would have to run the table in this year's Senate races to reach 60 votes even with Lieberman. That's unlikely. Furthermore, several current Democratic Senators, including Ben Nelson of NE, Mary Landrieu of LA, and Blanche Lincoln of AR, do not always vote with the Democrats.
They will after this election.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
I don't think they will get 60 with him, but I hold out hope that Ky. & Ga. and maybe one other could still go our way.
However, more important, I don't think it is a good idea to let our emotions get the better of us on this. Yes, Lieberman deserves a certain amount of derision and he certainly deserves to lose his chairmanship, but this is politics. None of these people are the purist of the pure.
Lieberman, as he has always been, will be a liability on some issues and a help on others. As an independent, he could probably help bring along some Republicans – like Collins, for instance – on some important votes. I also think that if Obama wins, his media presence will gradually become more marginal except in cases where he may be an important swing vote.
Further, the Dems will have to build coalitions even within their own party on various issues. As pointed out by Media Concepts, Democrats are not a monolithic voting bloc. If we do manage to win some Southern seats, those Dem Senators will be from a much more conservative mold, much like Landrieu, Nelson and Lincoln.
Lastly, this desire to "purge" the "unworthy" among us smacks of the far right's bid to rid the Republican Party of its moderates, which, along with the voters, helped purge the party from the MAJORITY. Lincoln Chaffee anyone? Be careful what you wish for. It might come true.
Many others have to go, if they have an R or GOP on their ballot.

Thanks for using the nickname I coined, Traitor Joe! From the Original Traitor Joe website,
http://traitorjoe.wordpress.com/
I coined the name McDepends. Does that make me special? Things have just gotten stickier, messier, smellier and harder to clean up.
Kato Palin was my contribution.
Are we sure that Reid will be majority leader in the new congress? It could easily be Hillary. A lot of pissed off (with the last congress) progressives could mount a campaign and we could see him go.
Think Harry and Nancy both should be replaced. A whole new clean slate type start.
I second, er third, this motion.
of getting rid of Harry Reid. He will cave in to Joe as always, and wonder why the Democrats will still be playing catch up, even with a Democratic President in the White House and a Majority in both Houses of Congress.
I could also support Hillary challenging Reid for the Leadership position. At least we know Hillary won't be sending "sternly-worded" letters to MoFos that need to bring their asses to the Hill to answer for shyt they have pulled.
There's no sense in cutting off our nose to spite our face.

....absolutely correct.
And, that's also probably how he came to be the Dem VP nominee in 2000...

This is a RETARDED idea. Look, Democrats are supposed the party of tolerance. We support gay rights, equal pay and affirmative action. Tolerance of others' beliefs must be allowed in the Democratic Party even we think that they are wrong. Do I agree with Lieberman's stance on the war? No. Do I agree with his endorsement of McCain? Absolutely not. But if we go on a witch hunt and apply a litmus test to become a Democrat, we end up just like the Republicans. A monolithic party that is forced to walk in lockstep with every single virtue, ideal and tenant of that party. Let Lieberman be Lieberman, he's wrong on the war, but he's a moderate democrat which is better than a right-wing ,Jesus-freak extremist.
Moderate Democrat? I need sum dat fairy dust yer smokin.
He has fought the democrats in every aspect and doesn't represent his constituants. He is a traitor to democracy. Nuff said.
holy joe ran on helping to get a dem elected to the presidency...he lied
if the only thing was the war, you would be right...but he sat silent through every other piece of shit that bush has done, and constantly attacked dem positions
i dont like the word traitor....a much better way to describe him is piece of shit
papasmurf:
You have undermined the very idea behind having a political party at all. That a party's political agenda is one of tolerance hardly translates into tolerating people who disagree with the party's agenda as members of the party. There are some issues that define Democrat or Republican or Green or Libertarian, and to differ on them means that one is not a Democrat or Republican or Green or Libertarian.
Please. There are certain tenets that define the party's beliefs, which should be binding on its members. If all one has to be to be a Democrat is self-identified as such, there is no definition of Democrat at all. Of course there is room to maneuver within a general philosophy, but there are boundaries.
While Joe Lieberman is not the Republican ideologue people paint him out to be, he has stepped outside the Democratic Party.
He ran as a Democrat in the Connecticut primary, and he lost. He then ran against the Democratic candidate, and sits in the Senate as a member of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party. He is not even self-identified as a Democrat. His positions on the war, and foreign policy in general, are fundamentally at odds with the party's current stances. And he is campaigning for the Republican candidate for president.
Once his vote is no longer necessary politically, he should be relegated to his status as lone independent.
Well, that's a curious way to end your post. Why shouldn't a right-wing, Jesus-freak extremist be allowed in the Democratic Party? I mean, if we don't allow them in, we're just like the monolithic, lock-step Republicans, right? Do I agree with the extremism? Of course not. Do I believe in the integration of Christianity and the state? No. But I don't want litmus tests applied, right?
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
Karen.A great way to express it.
Dont forget Lieberman referring to Rev.Hagee as a Moses, yeah that fanatic, who believes Jews will have to 'come to Jesus' in the 'end' -or they are to be destroyed...God's Plan ya' know!
If there's an independent that should be seen as the tie breaker, that would be Bernie Sanders. Lieberman gets too much attention.
Is it the 21st century yet?
Sanders is closer to a "D" than Joe.
Immediately after Election Day, if Democrats don't need Lieberman as their 60th vote in the Senate,
And if they do need him for a 60th vote, shouldn't he still go...? you know, on principle? I mean, the guy clearly does not believe in nor adhere to Demcratic beliefs or philosphy. He's a loathesome political whore. The Democrats have to clean house if they expect to accomplish great things.
If they only have 59 or 58. What difference does one less make? I say pack him up and send him to live in Zell Miller's basement.
I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.....
I don't care what the tally is, drop him like a box of toxic waste!
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Lieberman made his voluntary choice---to bail on the Democratic party because he is an opportunistic, self centered jerk. Now that the GOP bozos who he supports are on the ropes he wants to play nice and come back.
This douchebag has no moral character or integrity and you can bet he will bail on the Demos the first opportunity he gets. Send this putz a clear message---GET LOST!
Taking a risk by maintaining personal integrity and loyalty to those who supported you are worth far more than the weakness and ease of political convenience and pandering. We do not need to enable any more risk adverse political figures. The time for courage and integrity is now. This is the message Liarman needs to hear---loud and clear.
"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."

Joe Lieberman's days of vitality are long gone. He's become a tired old hack who represents all that's regressive about this government. It's time for new ideas, youth, and new blood in Congress. He's been brain farting fairly regularly now so I think it's becoming obvious that his mind isn't what it used to be.
Joe Lieberman definitely needs to be put out to pasture soon and extricated from the Democratic Party. He's no democrat now nor was he ever. He's the quintessential "wolf in sheeple's clothing".
What value does a "turncoat" have? Even if Lieberman means having the 60 veto-proof majority, what good is he when he sides with the obstructionists every time? It means zilch to count on him.
these senators really shelter each other reguardless of many factors.
That's why I despise the modern Democratic Party. This is what passes for principled action. If we don't need Joe, then screw him. I say Joe must go regardless of the Democratic senator count.
I've been saying for months that the worst cast scenario was for Joe to be the 60th vote. Under those conditions, I figured, Dems would reveal themselves at their craven, unprincipled best. And here it is.
I realize that Democrats are probably far too stupid to understand this, but if Joe is the 60th vote that means Dems don't have 60 votes. As I wrote in another thread yesterday -- they'll have 59 votes and a dishonest, manipulative Lieberman who will be a constant thorn in their side. He'll never go away and we'll be revisiting the "Joe issue" over and over again.
Joe's gotta go. No matter what the count.
But he should be canned by a new Senate majority leader.
Harry Reid's Gotta Go!!!

Harry brought Joe back to life with the help of Chuck Shumer, deliberately knocking out a real anti-war Democratic to appease the big pro-war donors, and, and it was Harry's sole decision to reinstall Joe as Chairman, after Harry lied to the public about it.
The newly emboldened Democrats need to dump Harry and Joe -their joint whining and ineffectiveness were the #1 sources of all the gridlock in the Senate.
Amen! Hallelujah, and Amen! Get 'em "Outta' Here!"

Cut off their nose to spite their face? It sounds like someone cut off something a lot lower than that!
He is an embarrassment to all Democrats nation wide.
Lieberman, or Reid?
Is there nothing more to party affiliation than one's own claim that they are so affiliated, regardless of their words, deeds, and actions to the contrary!?!
Can half of the Democratic Party members of the House and Senate simply claim to be Republicans, while still voting and cooperating with their former colleagues, and then proudly proclaim to have 'Reached across the aisle to achieve a Bipartisan Consensus'!?!
In what way, shape, or form does Joe Lieberman represent, exhibit, or in any way advance the spirit, ideals, and/or objectives of the Democratic Party!?!
Or, to paraphrase Senator Charles Tobey's (R-NH) question to mob boss Frank Costello, during testimony before the Kefauver Crime Commission in 1951:
"What the hell good are ya!?!"
My own personal fantasy is that even if he is "number 60" we have a Majority leader with some backbone (i.e. replace Reid), so the conversation might go like this:
Lieberman: Hello? Mr. Majority Leader? I know that we've had our differences in the past, but I also know that you need that 60th vote to prevent filibusters and I really like my Homeland Security committee chairmanship and I...
Majority Leader: Joe, I appreciate you coming to me first, but I have 40 other Republicans I might be able to negotiate a compromise with, and I think one of them might make deals for less than a gavel to an important committee. Thanks for calling... *click*
Joe is nothing but a two-faced liar who goes when the flow is in his direction. He loves this, and in the very beginning he's one of old men in Washington.

smug joe lieberman sits back and feels though he courted blatantly the republican party that now that it's over, he can dance back to the dems and he will be welcomed with chocolates and open arms. This man is a sleeze ball who is only looking out for joe lieberman. if the dems welcome him back, i swear an oath that i will never vote dem again. not only should he be unceremoniously ousted, but any loudmouth who has supported him in the past or who currently calls him a good guy should be flung out as well. he is despicable. WE have the power and now is the time to wield it. quit being the milketoast doormat that the dems have always been in the past. Don't forget that Elmer Fudd Lieberman singlehandedly took Gore's presidency down and we've paid for it for the last eight years. do you really want to be bedfellows with scum like that? Obama, we took you there. you will have both houses as well. take bush and his cronies to court, impeach. Impress us all with this first shot, shot, denounce lieberman. that would assure us that we have made the right choice.
