How dumb are the right wing bloggers and pundits? I don't have enough time to tell you, but this latest crazed outburst of supposed "media bias" over the treatment of George W. Bush is proof enough that they are suffering a deep and dark depression.
Patrick Gavin posts a very short video clip, all of twenty two seconds that's supposedly a complete media critique of the way the White House press reporters loathe George Bush and just fawn over Barack Obama. Hot Air's Allahpundit writes:
This one’s making the rounds but I’m not sure why. Isn’t this standard chivalrous behavior when you’re in love? If The One were forced to trod upon a muddy path, wouldn’t you expect Chuck Todd or Helen Thomas to lay their coats over it for him? Actually, there’s a more mundane explanation. Sort of.
--
Doesn’t that … basically prove the point of the video? Okay, fine, they’re not anti-Bush. They’re just really, really pro-Obama. Whew!
I know, I should have some pity on their poor souls, but how can I pity idiocy?
Not that I need to link to something that explains away this lunacy, but I will anyway.
John Dickerson:
A video, put together by Politico's Patrick Gavin, is making the rounds showing two presidential visits to the White House briefing room. In one, George Bush arrives for a press conference in February 2008, and the press remains seated. In the second, from last Friday, Barack Obama surprises the press by appearing in the midst of the daily briefing. They stand to greet him. (Given that the press is supposedly in the tank for Obama, shouldn't critics be happy they didn't kneel?)
This may seem silly, but it's symbolic: The discrepancy in treatment is all the proof a Republican needs to show that the press shows special deference to the new Democratic president. It's a distorted picture, though. We stood all the time for President Bush. Reporters customarily do so to show respect for the office of the presidency. In the East Room of the White House, we stood not only when the president came in but to ask questions. Some reporters said thank you to the president even before asking their questions. This practice continues under President Obama....read on
I would tell Allahpundit to just hold his breath until he turns blue whenever he sees media bias when there isn't any, but he might forget to breathe altogether.
Tbogg finds some more.

Interesting that they chose a press conference at the end of the chimperators term of office. Seems it would be better to see how the press reacted in the early days before he checked out.
Still, they've got a point. The press NEVER stood [up] to Bush - they sure do for Obama though...
....if you don't like it. Bush lost everyone's respect by 2008. Maybe the reporters just got tired of the BS.
but nothing seems to stick. all the old lee atwater/karl rove lies aren't working daggummit!
sat on thier hands thru the entire bush presidency. they certainly didn't write about it.
......when I heard Obama made a surprise visit to the Press Briefing, I had to stop watching reruns of Dancing With The Stars and I don't do that for everyone.
You should do SOMETHING about that diaper rash.
ralfeemambo...you must be chafing somethin fierce after havin those panties all bunched up for so long.
... to the press corps when he left one of his final Q&A sessions before the media could stand or say thank you?
When someone treats you with respect and dignity, you respond in kind.
When someone does'nt respect you and treats as such, you are inclined to respond as such.
The right take, they do not give, for that would be seen as weakness.
Thus they want respect, without merit, but refuse to give it, when warranted
The Right hate psychology(and science in general) because it explains things, how mysterious behaviours manifest themselves.
The right, as well educated as they are, are emotionally ignorant, and fearful. They are incapable of self-reflection(see Robert Altemeyer) , they are the kids at school who desparately try to be "cool" but can only manage to bully their way through social situation. They are not creative thinkers, nor artistic. Thus they reject that which they cannot control or dominate.
That is the message the Media is demonstrating, in a subtle way because the Corporate masters have not figured out a way to censor it , yet.
AMEN.
"The right, as well educated as they are," Now that is funny. Educated. My ass.
Bullies... that's more like it. And until everyone realizes that is exactly what they are, and starts to stand up to them, they will continue to act like bullies.
If shrub walked into a room that I was in, the only respect he would see from me is my backside, fully exposed and both hands flipping him off. The piece of crap deserves to rot the rest of his life in the worst run prison in the world.
I would hurl my shoes at him!
... particularly with 'conservative' vs. scientific, creative, and artistic thought.
Conservative thought would seem to lend itself to those things which are precise and predictable. Science isn't always, creative definitely isn't, and neither is art.
The problem is when the conservative nonetheless insists that the world conform with their perceptions/expectations. The fear is their own, that the commodity being observed is unpredictable and therefore a threat; the hatred is their own, because the commodity isn't behaving the way they want.
The real world, however, is full of both linear and non-linear thought processes. I suspect much of the innovation prized by the corporate mindset is decidedly un-conservative; someone like a Thomas Edison would wither under a corporate mindset.
Do the Republicans actually have any issues or just some childish garbage they keep trying to make stick?
They are distracting us from the Torture issue. If they keep throwing this nonsense at us then we won't ask about torture.
Did I mention TORTURE? 'cause they don't :)
I pity genuinely mentally challenged people. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for truly handicapped persons to go through life in a fog, never knowing the clarity most of us take for granted. My younger brother, though functional and very skilled, is one of those persons to whom I refer and I would have harsh words for someone razzing him.
These people aren't mentally handicapped though. They are wantonly ignorant. Most of the people who deny evolution only deny it because somebody told them to. I know physicians, whose work is biology, ultimately rooted in evolution, who claim to be young Earth creationists though clearly they cannot really believe that. I know wingers who claim belief in god and the bible though I know they rarely if ever attend church and their religious tendencies didn't even manifest themselves till around the same time that Gingrich manifested himself.
I don't pity these people. I scorn them. I pity handicapped people but stupid people are usually stupid because they chose to be.
Barack Obama: Change we can only imagine
this is the best description of the Rethugs I have ever read....and right on the mark. Thanks!
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
may also stem from the fact that Pres. Obama doesn't dole out uncomplimentary nicknames.
Also, the press wasn't too happy with bush during the early part of his presidency because the fucker simply would not show up for work.
Whether you like Pres. Obama, love him, dislike him, worry a bit or are a mouth-breathing hater, it's pretty tough to argue he hasn't kept himself and his staff gainfully employed.
Of course that's going to garner more favor than clearing brush for days at a time on a private ranch where only hand-picked members of the media are invited in.
Ten seconds.
That's it. As pathetic as the republican party is at this stage of the game, it should take no more ten seconds to refute any argument they present.
You get a full minute if you are still in grade school.
Personally, I just want to see reporters asking informed and tough questions. Bush obviously couldn't handle tough questions, but I don't think Obama has that problem. We should want reporters to do their jobs, even if it means asking tough questions.
Ever notice how irons have a setting for permanent press? I don't get it.
Steven Wright
It says more about Bush than it does about Obama. A simple fact that flies right over the head of allahpundit.
Dumb s**ts. Keep trying
The people of privilege will always risk their complete destruction rather than surrender any material part of their advantage." J.K. Galbraith
I hope not standing for Cheneys pet monkey was meant as a sign of disrespect. Standing for the entrance of the president has been etiquette forever. Wingnuts not liking it makes me happy.
With pertinent issues like Michelle touching the Queen, Obama bowing to a Saudi Prince, talking to Chavez, Teabagging because Obama made their paychecks larger, etc. The conservatives are clearly in tune with Americans concerns.
Nailed it!
They can only operate via logical fallacies like strawmen and red herring arguments. All tied up with a heavy dose of projection, with the vane goal of trying to deflect the responsibilities for their 8 year reign of hubris.
I truly hope this are supposed to be the manifestations of the last gasps of a dying degenerate ideology.
Apparently a prerequisite (as other posters have noted)for D'ohP membership is an implacable paranoia and belief in victimhood. They act as if they are some intentionally disparaged class and in their simplistic, black and white (mostly all white)world its us and them, yes or no, believe completely or don't. Instead of taking responsibility for their actions they blame others and external circumstances that they believe are beyond their control. They are authoritarian control freaks who are deeply frightened when not in complete command and control.
In other words, these people are sociopathic losers who are more like a bizarre cult than a political party. The public is abandoning them in droves because they have disconnected themselves from public sentiment and reality. Congratulations to these mental midgets---they get exactly what they deserve.

Sit for a moron. Show courtesy to a gentleman. Simple enough.
... the GOP seems to think that RealGuy(TM) is enough to earn respect. Too bad disrespect for W. is more than a function of his limited intellect - it was his posture, his habit of not looking you in the eye, of offering platitudes and excuses that showed exactly what he thought of YOU.
Their answer, of course, is to take the Thrilla From Wasilla and dress her up in a $150,000 wardrobe. That'll show people we're connected to jus' plain folk! Unfortunately, she's from the same drawer - the one with all the dull cutlery - every bit as intellectually incurious and responsibility-dodging as W.
But it shows how the right wing typically operates: take one or two events out of context, blow them up past all proportion and then conveniently ignore the rest of the context that explains it all -- in this case, the difference between ONE instance of the press not standing for Bush and ONE instance of the press indeed standing for Obama.
Thanks to both Johns for supplying the context.
Actually most of the press weren't just sitting.
They were snoozing...
"How dumb are the right wing bloggers and pundits? I don't have enough time to tell you,"
Surely.

Is that all they got???
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
based on his sticking to his scripted messages. When will everyone understand what's going on?
appoints folks with IRS issues
appoints lobbyists
etc...
but a lot of folks don't want to hear this, just want to hear yeah Obama everything's going to be okay. including site moderator
- Bush nominating people who hired illegal immigrants as housekeepers/nannies.
- No-bid contracts for Iraq.
Respectfully, Sir, you have no grounds for complaint.
... but by all means, don't let that stop you from chiming in.
but a buncha whiny fuckin pussies.
Well, this might have something to do with the facts that:
1.) Bush had already destroyed America with two occupations, an economy in recession, and diminished standing in the world by 2008
2.) Bush disdains the media and hated any form of checks and balances (even from the wussy media) on his executive power
3.) Bush has been recorded bullying the press corps. defending the Iraq war before it became indefensible.

It is funny in a sad kind of way... whenever you hear a rightwinger bitch and moan, we get such an insight into their rotten souls, Freud would have a field day with these assholes.
I'm both anti-Bush AND pro-Obama!
What do you think of that?
I've never seen or heard a more unhinged group of individuals. Talk about besieged and aggrieved ...

One guy exudes a sense of belonging and respect and the other guy looks like he just walked out of the nearest bar after an all-nighter. Who are you going to stand for?

"Um ... dude, you're not gonna barf in my car, are you?"
Apparently the prerequisite for membership in the D'ohP is an implacable paranoia and victim mentality that assumes any dissent or negative reference to them by outsiders is part of a sinister, evil plot.
They have morphed from a political party to a lemming like cult status with a simplistic yes/no, right/wrong, them/us viewpoint. They don't have the intelligence or patience to advocate a subtle or nuanced approach, these authoritarian bullies crave complete control and freak out when not in power.
Their cult status has disconnected them from the mainstream thought and sentiment of Americans but they continue to delude themselves that somehow, they are the righteous, but unappreciated majority. Nothing could be further from the truth. These social and political misfits have right earned their minority status through their sociopathic narcissism and are well on their way toward the garbage heap of history.

All this is proof of, is that Bush was never really President, but rather had usurped power.
See, when you're ELECTED (as opposed to merely being appointed by your daddy's friends, and then stealing a second election), you get to be President, and it's traditional to stand when the President comes into the room.
Barack Hussein Obama is America's President.
Bush never was. Not for one fucking minute.

It's called respect. That's why.
RESPECT!
And Obama surely has lots of it, and gives it back in return. Unlike the last dead head who was in office.
NOBODY 2012
was shown today by that tabloid TV show, Inside Edition.
Home with a bad cold, I was flipping around the tube this afternoon and caught Inside Edition sorta calling out Fox News. They made mention about how Hannity made a big deal of it showing a video (his or Gavin's?) of the press standing for Obama but not Bush.
Then Inside Edition showed clips of at least 2 times the press stood for Bush. Imagine that, a tabloid trash show like Inside Edition shows up with proof that Fox News and Gavin couldn't (or wouldn't?) find. It was pointed out that this was Obama's first time in the press briefing room too which could have something to do with their standing.
Also, on Fox News this morning one of their Fox DC correspondents was asked about this and he said that in the old Bush press briefing room it was hard to stand because of how all the cords and equipment were at the reporters' feet.
Aren't there 2 1/2 wars going on (if you include Pakistan). This is what right-wing-nuts are worried about?
Besides I wouldn't give a standing ovation at a Ted Nugect concert (mostly because I wouldn't be there) but I would if it was Pink Floyd. You earn respect; doesn't come automatically.
"If the US government enforced its banking laws like it did its park regulations, we wouldn't be
in this damn park in the first place." OCCUPY.!!
but the Bush Administration was pretty goddamn hostile to the press.
