Paul Ryan is trying to actually say he and the GOP have ideas. Soon, the media will pick up on this and also say that the GOP and Ryan have really cool ideas to take care of that nasty federal deficit and curb health care costs by 2080. Yes, I'm not kidding. 2080 I guess it is an idea even if it's batshit crazy.

The Economist lays it out for you.

Barack Obama's visit with the Republicans last week, some members of the opposition were deeply upset. They bristled at the idea that they have not proposed any serious ideas and are simply the "Party of No". In fact, the accusation is not true: Republicans have proposed some serious ideas recently. I'm going to post on two of them. The first, put forward by Paul Ryan, the ranking Republican member of the budget committee, is the "Roadmap for America's Future" budget proposal and it credibly claims to put America's federal budget in surplus by 2080. The CBO agrees. How does it do that?Simple, it slashes Medicare...top_paying_them">read on

He's shilling for Wall Street yet again as he usually does. He wants to privatize medicare and social security although he uses words like "vouchers" to mask what he's saying.

Crying John Boehner is running from it as fast as he can.

House Republicans are at pains to point out that a far-reaching budget roadmap unveiled by their top budget guy, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), isn't their budget, but when asked today at a press conference what about Ryan's budget he disagreed with, Minority Leader John Boehner couldn't name anything.

"Off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you," Boehner said.

And as Howie Klein points out, he reminds teabaggers why they aren't going to like him.

And Paul Ryan's is one of Wall Street's most devoted partisans on Capitol Hill, a veritable lobbyist inside Congress for all of their interests. Teabaggers don't like politicians who voted for the irresponsible Bush bank bailouts? Ryan didn't only vote for it-- twice-- as a high ranking member of Ways and Means and Banking Committee, the he persuaded dozens of reluctant GOP colleagues to vote for it and after it failed the first time, is said to have been the key figure in passing it the second time a week later!

Blue America just set up a page called Stop Paul Ryan. While he's a spectacular conservative hack, he's still very dangerous. If you can throw a few bucks our way. We plan to target him. Remember, he is a conservative and Wall Street golden boy.

Why should we stop Paul Ryan. I want him to succeed. The revolution must continue! We must end ALL federal programs. We must end the socialism! We must end government waste!

Only then, can Americans really be free!

USA! USA! USA!

are there actual examples where privatizing govt services has actually saved the taxpayers money?

I think it's written in the same book where privatizers convinced municipalities that using tax payer money to build sports stadiums for private enterprises leads to societal benefits.

Maybe I am missing something here, but did we not have a budget surplus when Clinton left office?

Oh no no no. It was all smoke and mirrors. They bamboozled Bush and shackled him with all those deficits.

The Clinton budget surplus was created on the back of Welfare Reform Elimination and the then soon to be popped Dot Com bubble fraud combined with the then soon to be exposed Enron/WorldCom accounting fraud. The resulting recession was eliminated by Alan Greenspan continuing with the long time program of Bubblenomics.

We have had a thirty year program of privatization and Clinton was not the exception, but rather the rule.

Written another way it is debt enslavement.

but some, like paul krugman, have some qualifying statements on that that throw the 'budget surplus' into question...

Everyone knows that deficits only matter at the instant a Democrat becomes President.
The destroying of the surplus by the previous Republican administration through reckless tax cuts for the wealthy and two insane wars of aggression PLUS growing the government more than any previous administration are meaningless.
The deficit only acquires meaning when the Democratic President inherits the deficit left by the Republican fiscal conservatives who have thoughtfully wrecked the economy and drained the bank.

The Dems better get crackin' before the Pugs beat them to the punch.
This is a prime example of course,as to how Republicans operate on a completely ideological level, even unapologetically going after Medicare, while the Democrats trip over themselves in their scramble to be the first to arrive at the much ballyhooed "center" only to discover...once again, that the center has magically jumped further to the right.

basically he's saying he has a plan to balance the budget after a whole as yet born generation passes away. What a freak. Why not play it safe and say their plan will produce a surplus in 2150?

Everyone HAS ideas.

Some of us have learned to filter our ideas, apply rational thought to those ideas, maybe even accumulate some data and do a little math to TEST those ideas ..

Just because someone HAS ideas doesn't mean those ideas have any merit.

Some of us know that, even about our own ideas.

Ya gotta learn to THINK too - simply HAVING ideas is not enough.

Democracy is too important to be entrusted to politicians.

Republicans will be all over the news to deny this is their plan, if they are even asked. Dems will be nowhere to be found for one reason. TV producers are lazy, Reps call and 'volunteer' to be on every sunday show and crowd out lazy Dems. Reps get away with it because they know if they get on TV every weekend they look like they are doing something even though they are not. get ready for Dems to blow this golden oppurtumity.

Dems think the truth will win out, it's not true, truth is perception and Dems never realize this until the damage is done.

Please take away our social security , medicaid and medicare , don't limit interest rates on our credit cards , give us higher prescription drug prices and higher Health Insurance costs and please , no regulating Wall Street or the Banking /finance sector .Don't tax us and please do something about this deficit .

It reminds me of 1990's Rossello in Puerto Rico, who solved all budget problems by privatizing and selling everything he could. It worked for a few years, until nothing else could be privatized.

Whatever wasn't privatized or sold during the 1990's, the current PR governor plans to do so now.
