The Right Wing war on symbols continues

drudgereportcrescent_9c475.JPG

Of course something this ludicrous had to appear on Breitbart's site written by Frank Gaffney: Can This Possibly Be True? New Obama Missile Defense Logo Includes A Crescent

The Obama administration’s determined effort to reduce America’s missile defense capabilities initially seemed to be just standard Leftist fare — of a piece with the Democratic base’s visceral hostility to the idea of protecting us against ballistic missile threats. A just-unveiled symbolic action suggests, however, that something even more nefarious is afoot.

Gaffney later had to issue an apology of sorts.

And as Digby observes: Teabaggers Aren't The Only Kooks.

They are part of the same pie. The war against symbols has been going on ever since Bush took office. Remember how insane the right wing went over the red crescent design that won the memorial of the Flight 93 back in 2005?

And FOX News had to get in on it too.

That's what fat boy used to claim the left was all about, and yet the only ones who are ever really focused on symbolism are the wingnuts.

You ever see how much shit comes outta an elephant?

I wonder if right wingers then want to destroy the moon?

These right wing Republicans are anti intellectual reactionaries. Their diatribes never have any substance...

I mean after all, they are kind of crescenty...

Good thing it's not a Star of David, eh?

Starve the WAR Beast...
... Feed Americans.

Let them have their silly wars. It means nothing to me. Rachel Maddow did a piece on this last week, it turns out one of the symbols was created by bush. Morons.

Is it the 21st century yet?

The main star wars symbol was created by the Bushies.
Maddow did do a story. On this web page it is the third video on the list (At least it is for me. These web pages are getting more and more weird.). And as usual Rachel hits it out of the park during this lesson.

The boeing company logo...FOR DECADES!

And Procter & Gamble's old "man-in-the-moon" logo as well!! After all, it's a crescent moon with the points facing left -- and it even has stars next to it!

In fact, I'm a little surprised that nobody has brought that one up yet (especially in light of all the other rumors which used to spring up over that logo). My father worked for P&G all his life, so I heard all the stories...I always thought that logo was cool!

Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.

which brings me back to my belief that all of this nuttiness is further proof of the evil, poisoning side-effects of fluoridated tap water. when is someone going to stop this madness.

Communism is still a useful fear image for these dittiots, even though communism never had much of a foothold here in America, it's still usefull to scare the galactically stupid with.

ignoring the Flight 93 evidence?

Kooks from all over the spectrum (as long as they have been off the deep end for a while) obsess about symbols. Crazy nonsense about the US Gov't being a masonic cult because of the images on currency, people that think that stuff is The Davinci Code is all literal truth, all these sorts of crazies and nutcases have an obsession with sybols, often to the degree that content and evidence stops mattering almost completely. What makes this scary is now this brand of mentally corrupted person makes up a significant portion of not only the population but government itself.

It's a war on intelligence also. Let's not forget Freedom fries. I tried to introduce the term Freedom poodles but it just didn't take.

metman's picture

Freedom manicure and Freedom dip? Yeah the second one can be called a beef dip, but given Republican prudishness and homophobia, I think that the idea of putting something referred to as "hot beef" in your mouth would be almost as problematic as eating something with "French" in the name.

biff's picture

Well the term Conservative dips would have worked on a couple of levels.

...all the flap from Michelle Malkin over the black-and-white scarf that Rachel Ray was wearing when she appeared in an ad for Dunkin' Donuts -- because Malkin tried to claim that it looked too much like a kheffiyeh. Most of the people who chose to post comments on Malkin's site in response to that story thought she'd gone off the deep end with that one.

Its really hard to believe how they strike at such nonsense, like a puppy chasing its tail or a cat playing with a piece of string...

It's misdirection

There's the Obama Flag, which turned out to be Ohio's state pennant, but let's not let their ignorance of what a state's flag looks like stop these clueless tools from running around with their hair on fire.

YEAH CANADA!! lol (sorry John:)

Fox News is pure propaganda. America's republican party television network.

Sad

It's all they have left. They have to whine about insignificant BS like this because it's all they've got. No ideas, no substance, no common sense. Just this. That's it. Sad really when you think about what the Republican party once was, but those day's are long gone.

What's troubling to me is that most of the people we are up against are idiots, through and through, but we can't seem to defeat them too often. It is truely baffling to me how Progressives have allowed themselves to be beaten to a pulp by the equivalent of Gomer Pyle.

These idiots are probably running around slapping each other on the back because they think they found something really really neato.

those that they disagree with. But didn't McCain borrow Mellencamp's , Heart's, Jackson Browne's and the Foo Fighter's music for his campaign without getting the rights or permission? And judging by the artist's irritation and lawsuits they weren't in agreement with him.

... our submission to Islam.

Meanwhile, a hopping drunken monkey dance and empty honors handed out by the Saudis to George W. Bush are perfectly okay.

This, from the people who gave you "freedom fries" and "islamofascism."

jtschroe's picture

the US, Russia, and Cuba (!!!) have the same national colors! It's almost as if all this stuff was irrelevant! Ps.Why would Obama choose a missile defense system primarily against the middle east to contain a muslim crescent? "It's like you're shooting at the Koran if you shoot at us!" Sounds unlikely.

Another day, another load of right-wing drivel. This non-controversy highlights the inability of conservatives to see beneath surfaces. They obsess over symbols and ignore substance. Always.

That was people eqating something as mundane as chocolate.
It was ONLY meant for those with an imagination.
It was NOT actually excrement.
Is that worse than what the idiots in the story are attempting to do to our country?

And who can forget Glenn Beck's paranoid tour of the RCA building's communist art and architecture? Keith Olbermann did a hilarious takedown of this bizarre rant.

Now Fox News has me thinking about about words and animals as symbols.

I suddenly realized that the Fox is a pagan symbol for trickery, hypocrisy and cunning lies.

Oops. They've let it out of the bag now.
