Right Wingers dominate the Sunday Talk Shows
By John Amato Sunday Nov 16, 2008 1:30pmIt's no coincidence that right wing/Conservative guests far outnumber the left wing guests this week on the Sunday talkers. The country just rejected Conservatives and the entire GOP and gave Obama a complete mandate, but does that matter to the networks?
Highlighted this before, but on the teevee on Sunday we have:
7 Appearances by Republican current elected officeholders
3 Appearances by Democratic current elected officeholders.
2 Appearances by Republican former elected officeholders.
1 Appearance by a Bush Cabinet Secretary.

On FOX News Sunday, they have this line up:
''Fox News Sunday'' -- Sens. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Byron Dorgan, D-N.D.; Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.; former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, R-Md.
CBS' ''Face the Nation'' -- Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.; Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala.; Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La.; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.
Wow, FOX found it in the kindness of their hearts to put on Dorgan. And Newt's presidential run gets a boost from CBS. Do any of these networks think America might like to know what and how change is going to happen? It looks like the Corporate media are going to try and make this a center-right nation at all costs.

And it's amazing how they all have the same talking points. The auto corporations are at fault for their problems or the unions. Us working folks "union employees" shouldn't be making a living wage.
Nobody seems to note that non-union autoworkers make comparable wages and benefits, and in some non-union plants employees take home larger wages.
Why vote in the union, or buy the cow, when you get the milk free?
And this surprises exactly who? And why would it? Despite all the wining on the right, we have had a rightwing corporate media for at least 20 years, probably 30.

I agree that there must be more Democrats/Liberals/Progressives on the talk shows, but is it just a matter of the networks not booking them, or is it that Democrats don't PUSH hard enough to get on these shows?
I don't know the answer - I'm honestly asking because I don't know the answer.
Perhaps people like Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, Dukakis, and other former goverment officials need to go on the offensive? Where are the up-and-coming young congress people? Perhaps there needs to be a stronger push by the left to get smart people who are more often RIGHT on the issues, like Naomi Klein, Krugman, etc, less of Frank Rich and Joe Klein, and NO MORE of Bill Kristol and David Brooks.
After so many years of Republicans "working the refs", the Dems need to push back! Have you looked at talk radio? It is OWNED by the idiots. Let's not have television news shows get to that point.

Media outlets always answered that the Repugs own the Whitehouse and Congress and have won the right to primary media coverage. What's the excuse now that they've been voted out twice, including a landslide election?

Maybe the various individual Repugs are trying to prove to their base that they can be the savior of their party, while many Dem's are angling to get into Obama administration and don't want to say on teevee something that will torpedo their chances.
The Repugs can says whatever dumb thing they want because their base won't remember or care 4 years hence, while the Dem's have a motivation to be more tight-lipped.

You must know that with digital TV they can actually see the pings drop when your set goes off. So can sponsors.
Turn off your TV. Catch up on the net and watch their ratings and their income fall into the toilet.

I threw my bigscreen in the New River Gorge about ten years ago, much to the dismay of troubled onlookers. OMG, not having to endure commercials to get fake news! This is what happens when vaccuous spokemodels replace anchormen. I regret littering, but I'll never let another rot box into my house.

The wingnuts have for years been telling us the MSM is in the pocket of the Liberal Elite. That's why the Republicans lost the election; the damn Liberal Media wasn't covering the important stories. Like how Obama was secretly born in Communist Russia and is actually the love child of Jane Fonda and Bill Ayers. Also how they kept showing Palin in true character rather than televising the fantasy the Republicans wished were true. That's further proof of their Liberal Elite Agenda!
I mean, what other political bent would you expect from large media corporations which are owned by wealthy white Republicans! Obviously the mainstream media is in the tank for Obama.
Perhaps we can carve off lots of moderate Republicans and make them believe the Democratic party is their natural home. Instead of them holding their noses (to stave off the scent of social conservatism) and voting Republican, they can hold their noses (to stave off the scent of progressive politics) and vote Democratic.
The United States just elected a black "Socialist" to be the leader of the free world and its media can't keep up with the strong breeze coming in from the left. I expect the tired has been goopers to withdraw once President Obama is in office with his progressive administration I have the audacity to hope for.

Just who is it that keeps fanning the flames of the Liberal Media myth? The so-called Liberal Media themselves. Isn't it interesting that right after a Democrat wins the office of the presidency, the media rushes out to inform us that their coverage was biased towards Obama so they will now make up for it by holding Obama's feet to the fire for the next four years. Their evidence? Well, they did more stories about Obama than McCain, never mind that the majority of those stories were about things like Rezko, Ayers, Rev. Wright, flag pins, etc..., and they failed to run stories about McCain's numerous gaffs and sketchy lobbyist ties, they did more stories about Obama, case closed.

Suddenly, they are on the job as watchdog to keep a careful eye on the Obama administration and a Democratic Congress.The media is corporate, not Liberal, and as such has a natural bias towards the party that advocates on its behalf, that is the Republican party with its ideology of tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy and deregulation. Why do they want us to believe that they're Liberal? It's a head fake. That way they can keep leaning to the right while claiming that they get criticized from both sides.
By its definition, corporate media is there to turn a profit. This fact, in and of itself, proves that it has no interest in focusing on the interest of the people.
The interest of the people goes entirely against the interest of the corporation.
And anybody who has ever wondered why the media is so focused on Britney Spears instead of real issues cannot deny that the media exists entirely to capture eyeballs and make money. This is about as far from "liberal" as it gets.
A liberal media would be owned by the people and focus on those stories that affect people.
Is irrelevance the best revenge for those of us starved for diversity of opinion? Like, who the heck watches Meet the Press? And tvs may be tuned in to Fox out of habit, but those low-info devotees aren't paying attention. Irrelevance, also, for Newt Gingrich. If the corporate controlled media can't get a foothold on turning the populace against a successful, results-oriented Obama administration, that leaves it up to the tabloids to dissect Mr. Gingrich's richly textured, blatantly hypocritical life style. In fact, I predict that character will be the number one focal point in 2010, 2012, and so on. And all the juicy stuff will be coming from the Grossly Old Panties. Run, Newt, run! Your Christian bona fides couldn't be better.
I recall when this complaint used to be directed at the media the answer was, well the Republicans are in the majority so of course their view will be better represented as they set the agenda. what is the excuse now??

The economy stinks.
It took a nose dive right before the election.
The public voted against, for the most part, the people in power.
They also reelected some major conservative freaks like Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham among others.
Obama got elected.
The dems picked up seats.
But look at what we got as leaders: Reid and Pelousy. A rejection of conservatism - a victory for progressive ideas? Are you kidding?
Obama supports rattling the saber at Iran. He supports Bush's missile bullshit in Poland which infuriates Russia. He wants to escalate the war in Afghanistan. He voted for the renewal of the Patriot Act. He ran with Joe Biden - the author of draconian legislation and a supporter of the war in Iraq.
So all we know is that Obama won.
What that means in terms of where or if the country moves is completely an open question.
That's why all these blogs and mainstream media keep harping on Obama's race. That's the only thing that they think they're sure of.
Actually, I really had not noticed which bobbleheads were talking. I noticed which ones weren't. Namely, Henry (Apocolypse Now) Paulsen, who should be the one we want to ask questions of, but only appears on FOX News. Other networks don't even bother to say that they asked for him to be on, and are awaiting a reply. Where is 'ol Henry anyway? Like to get my hands on him. But Nooooooooo!!!!!
Not a damn thing will change in this country until we get control of our information and news sources. We should take control of PBS network and by hell and high water, everything broadcast vetted to be true facts and news. The networks are clueless as far as programing and as news.. well that's a big joke that's not funny. At least if we had one network that the people could go to and know that what they heard there were true facts, it would show the propaganda networks up for what they are and soon the large group of people who don't have a clue whats going on will be with us. Lets face the fact that it takes some time to wade through all the bullshit and propaganda one hears in a day. A two hour news show each night would let everyone in on things, and make it easy for someone with a time budget. *rule #1 Everything must be supported by facts,no lies,spin or bullshit!Rule #2 No actor or producer or newscast person will belong to the CFR or the Tri-lad comm or any other political group or think tank, that includes cia. The rest or the rules will have to come from the people, any more ideas or rules? The government(dems and gop) have turned pbs into the pile of shit we see today, one last idea, how about PTNN (peoples truth news network) no corp donations, funds from foundations,trust or any other of their soft money control programs.-CEO,citizens,eyes,open.
