Why does MSNBC employ a racist like Pat Buchanan? Because he's an 'affirmative action conservative' talker

His behavior during the Sonia Sotomayor hearing s has been reprehensible. White supremacy has always been his mantra and he's been given a license to spew his hatred at an alarming pace. We expect this type of thinking to be displayed on FOX News, but then you listen to what Alex Castellanos says on a daily basis on CNN:
Alex Castellanos, a GOP strategist and CNN contributor, said Obama may be taking the country back to the era of identity politics.
"He didn't play that card in the campaign, he fought against that. And he said we're now at a new place," he said. "And now the question is ... is he taking us back to identity politics saying that someone is a better judge because of their race or their gender or their ethnicity?
...and you realize a simple truth. This is what the conservative movement has to offer. There are no thinkers that can get beyond the race barrier and their hatred for all minorities is palpable. The Sonia Sotomayor hearings reveals this in epic fashion. Here's Pat trying to defend his hatred with Maddow.
BUCHANAN: Affirmative action is to increase diversity by discriminating against white males. As Alan Bakke was discriminated at the University of California at Davis; As Brian Weber, that worker in Louisiana was discriminated against; As Frank Ricci and those firefighters were discriminated against; As Jennifer Gratz, was discriminated against and kept out of the University of Michigan which she set her heart on, even though her grades were far higher than people who were aloud in there. That's the type-affirmative action is basically reverse discrimination against white males and it's as wrong as discrimination against black females and Hispanics and others. And that's why I oppose it.
Gasbag racists like Buchanan, who have lived an elitist life with never any worries about eating food and supporting their families actually thinks he knows what it's like to be a working class family in America. Take away his elitist gifts and let him live in the real world for a year and let's see what happens.
Pat Buchanan is the affirmative action conservative talker for MSNBC because who's left to choose from? Michael Savage. The choices they are left with are extreme right wing radio talk show jocks. So the only reason he's on there airwaves is because they needed to fill that slot. What do you call that, Pat?

Bob Shrum, to his credit, used the same tactics as Rachel Maddow in countering Pat Buchanan -- using a firm voice louder than Buchanan's high-pitched whine to talk over him. That's the only way to talk to him, and it makes Buchanan so mad that he goes off the deep end of his bigotry.

But if it came to a few nominees and it was a dead heat, what if this choice was yet another way to get the Repugs to further expose themselves for the colossal assholes that they are for everyone to see, right there on our teevees? I saw some clips of her on Jon Stewart's show and she comes across as being very conservative imo.
She is pretty conservative. Lost in all this is w's old man already gave her a lifetime appointment to the federal bench. The theatrics, hissy fits, screaming and holding you breath till you turn blue is a trial balloon to see how much sh it they can get away with before the next appointment. A preview of sorts. They tried to get her to get the Heller (DC handgun) decision to apply to the states in these hearings even though the supremes didn't in the ruling. Hatch was so pathetic he tried to get it in through the Privileges and Immunities Clause (hint to bar exam takers--that's always the wrong answer :)) instead of incorporating through the 14th Amendment.
Buchanan's entire being revolves around SCOTUS. He's admitted the whole "liberal media bias" thing is just the cons "working the refs" more than once and he's not big on imperialism. He's afraid Mexico is going to (or already has) invade the southern border and occupy a few southwestern states. He's a true Nixon wingnut. If Stevens retires or Ginsburg can't continue that's when it gets really dirty. Again, this is just a warmup.

Fabian Socialist that I am I have to say I don't agree that he is being racist here. If this judge was chosen, elevated, educated, passed and appointed because she is an Latina, there is no different that G.W. Bush having the same done for him. Then we get to THE highest court; nothing she can be appointed to makes up for the way 'America' behaved yesterday. But if her people behave in the same way now, we are lost. Think long and hard. If you are willing to settle for a theatrical highest court (as we have now) then you will get what you scream for now. If we want real change, then things have to actually change from being coloured racism to white. I hope at least we can all see that. And, once you accept that case, who is this woman? As a former Brit, I wonder how anyone could have become a Judge with an intellect as evidenced by her grammar. It is a serious problem to consider, if only we could stop playing the tennis of the dialectic.
Although it's always tempting, it's also a mistake to assume intellect and intelligence from someone's speech, especially when listening to a non-native speaker of the language (and English is Sotomayor's second language). Speech patterns are set early in life, long before any formal training or education, and they're very difficult to break.

When I watched Buchanan last night with Maddow I was pissed at first. Rachel did a good job holding his feet to the fire and telling him he's aging himself. But after I watched it I asked myself the same question. Why give this racist pig a platform? He has a history of racist comments yet they still have him on to comment. just this week, weeks after he attacked Letterman, he made comments about murdering a teenage boy. I contacted MSNBC twice asking these questions but they wont listen to one person. We need a coordinated effort to remove this man from our television screens. EVERYONE needs to contact MSNBC and their sponsors until he is gone.
I think maybe he needs to be on. Let the world know what these freaks are all about. Let people know what the Republican Party is all about. And when he is on Morning Joke it reflects on Joke because Joke agrees with him all the time. Keep it up is what I say.

Try being a white man in today's society. As a middle class white man I've had my experiences. Try getting a loan for a car or a mortgage as a white man. Good luck. I can't tell you how many times I've been overlooked for a job position just because I'm white. I go into a 7/11 to get a pack of Camels and people stare at me waiting for me to pull a gun to rob the place. Try getting s student loan as a white man. They think your an athlete with a scholarship. Try dating a white woman as a white male. People shout things at you so vile that I wont post them here. When the majority of liberals refuse to see things from say the side of the white firefighter you have to get the people that are willing to. Pat is one of those people. 1) Pat Buchanan isn't a racist, he just uses Republican talking points. That's who he is, and you can expect what he will say or represent.
2) Even though she is qualified, Sotomayor WAS picked probably because she is latino. You all haven't figured this out yet? This is how the game of politics is played, and although I don't like Pat just as much as everyone else on this board, Pat knows it too.
3) Affirmative action might be the most ridiculous policy in America today. We take under-represented minority groups and give them opportunities based on their ethnicity and skill set, because we feel that their under-representation is rooted in racism. Affirmative action doesn't fix the problem, which is actually under-educated and crime-plagued minority communities, but promotes the most capable minorities, to create a new sense of racial tension in this country.
1) What ever Pat is, he's still just as harmful, just as damaging as a racist.
2) If she is qualified, so be it. Enough said.
3) OK - most well intended policies need adjustment from time to time, and this might be one of those policies.
