The wife of Clarence Thomas launches Tea Party Group and is intrigued by Glenn Beck
It's been noted many times that Clarence Thomas rarely utters a word when he's hearing a case before him. That silence has been a source of criticism and interest to his reputation on the highest bench in the land for along time. I think now he has a bigger problem now because his wife has helped launch a new tea party group.

The nonprofit run by Virginia Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, is likely to test notions of political impartiality for the court.
Reporting from Washington As Virginia Thomas tells it in her soft-spoken, Midwestern cadence, the story of her involvement in the "tea party" movement is the tale of an average citizen in action.
"I am an ordinary citizen from Omaha, Neb., who just may have the chance to preserve liberty along with you and other people like you," she said at a recent panel discussion with tea party leaders in Washington. Thomas went on to count herself among those energized into action by President Obama's "hard-left agenda."
But Thomas is no ordinary activist.
She is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and she has launched a tea-party-linked group that could test the traditional notions of political impartiality for the court.
In January, Virginia Thomas created Liberty Central Inc., a nonprofit lobbying group whose website will organize activism around a set of conservative "core principles," she said.
She may not be breaking any rules at this point, but it certainly looks bad for the judge.
Virginia Thomas has long been a passionate voice for conservative views. She has worked for former Republican Rep. Dick Armey of Texas and for the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank with strong ties to the GOP.
In 2000, while at the Heritage Foundation, she was recruiting staff for a possible George W. Bush administration as her husband was hearing the case that would decide the election. When journalists reported her work, Thomas said she saw no conflict of interest and that she rarely discussed court matters with her husband.
I'm sorry, this looks bad for a lot for reasons and to say that they rarely discuss court matters seems absurd to anyone that has had a long term relationship or have been married. And the fact that she's going to take cash from corporations is a big deal. Her marriage to a Supreme Court judge would be very appealing to donors.

...so would passing a constitutional amendment giving the voters the right to remove any justice or federal judge by a simple majority vote in a national referendum. Cause would be anything that succeeds in riling the voters enough to pass an initiative to get the referendum on the ballot in, say, 20 states; if 20 get it on the ballot, all remaining states must do likewise in the next national election. It would be a sobering moment for the court when they realized that they are far more likely to be removed by voters than by a senate that is a s corrupted as the court. Also, as a provision of the amendment, bar any justice or judge removed from the bench from ever being able to serve in a position of trust or leadership in any public or private job.
Paul: This is exactly why Federal judges have lifetime appointments. If judges had to worry about the political pendulum rather than the actual rule of law it would take about a week for our laws to become so corrupted we wouldn't recognize them anymore.
If the founders had done it as you suggest, then over the past thirty years every single fair-minded judge in the entire country would have been removed and replaced by ultra-right wing loonies. Over the course of our SHORT history (if we were still a single country anymore) we'd have seen a total judicial takeover, by one ideology or another, about six times.

Although only one Justice has ever been impeached and that was in the early 1800s, I agree with the sentiment. Thomas is not showing impartiality here which is expected of someone in his position. From someone of their intellectual level they have to realize that they are exploited the ignorant and are doing it to stand up for their self-serving interests.

I remember reading an article about it awhile back, and have talked to someone that ran into them at a rv park. Him and his wife were talking to Thomas's wife when he came out of the rv, he said he looked familiar but didn't know who he was until his wife said his name. Supposedly he is rarely recognized when in street clothes out of the DC area.
