What If The Tea Party Was Black?
I've often asked myself this question too. Every single time a teabagger says they're not racist, I wonder what would happen if the black community rose up in anger this way and screamed that they want THEIR country back, and slyly suggested that white Republicans were stealing the country away from them.
No, if minorities rose up and were the Tea Party, they'd likely be accused of everything from sedition to terrorism. I thought these lyrics were powerful, insightful, and just chock full of awesome.
Kudos to Pittsburgh artist Jasiri X. Also highly recommended: Tim Wise's inspirational essay "Imagine if the tea party were black."
(Lyrics after the jump)
What if the tea party was black
Holding guns like the Black Panther Party was back
If Al was Rush Limbaugh and Jesse was Sean Hannity
And Tavis was Glenn Beck would they harm they families
If Sarah Palin was suddenly Sistah Soaljah
Would they leave it with the votes or go and get the soldiers
Yall know if the tea party was black
The government would have been had the army attackWhat if Michael Baisden was on ya FM dial
For 3 hours every day calling the president foul
Would they say free speech or find evidence how
To charge him with treason like see he's unamerican now
What if Minister Farrakhan prayed for the death
Of the commander in chief that he be laid to rest
Would they treat it as the gravest threat or never make an arrest
Even today he's still hated for less
What if President Obama would have lost the election
Quit his job so he could go talk to the left and
Bash the government for being off of direction
Fraught with deception
And told black people they want all of our weapons
And we want our own country and called for secession
Would he be arrested and tossed in corrections
For trying to foster aggression
Against the people's lawful selection
Our questionsWhat if the tea party was black
Holding guns like the Black Panther Party was back
If Al was Rush Limbaugh and Jesse was Sean Hannity
And Tavis was Glenn Beck would they harm they families
If Sarah Palin was suddenly Sistah Soaljah
Would they leave it with the votes or go and get the soldiers
Yall know if the tea party was black
The government would have been had the army attackWhat If black people went on Facebook and made a page
That for the death if the president elect we prayed
Would the creators be tazed and thrown in a cage
We know the page wouldn't have been displayed all these days
What if Jeremiah Wright said that everybody white
Wasn't a real America would you feel scared of him
If he had a militia with pictures that depict the president as Hitler
They would kill and bury that
Wait
What if Cynthia McKinney lamented the winning of the new president
And hinted he wasn't really a true resident
With no proof or evidence
Would the media treat it like a huge press event
They would have attacked whatever group she represents
They would have called her a kook on precedent
And any network that gave her due preference
Would be the laughing stock of the news so our question isWhat if the tea party was black
The government would have been had the army attack

They'd be called un-American, non-patriotic, anarchist, ill-informed, violent dumb n****rs who are a threat to National security. And believe me, armed black men at a protest rally by black people would be immediately apprehended or shot down.
They'd be infiltrated, arrested(or taken down...by all means necessary) with survivors sent to fucking GITMO.

Dunno if it still does, but that's how David Duke made his big national splash in 1980 after he sold the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan secret membership list for $35,000 and couldn't exactly remain a member in good standing.
I imagine Duke realized that being a Klan member would kinda' hurt his chances at elective office outside of the Deep South, so he took the money & ran. Duke then founded the NAAWP as a "mainstream" alternative to the Klan, Posse Comitatus, etc., the cheeky monkey.

... I discount any argument that includes 'What if 'x' had done this..?' and then presumes to provide the response. It is a futile exercise and takes away from the valuable discussions that need to be taking place to fix the issues facing this country.
My suggestion: instead of hypothesizing on what would happen if minority-based organizations did/said what the Tea Party people are doing/saying, let's do it! Have the New Black Panther Party or LULAC or NAACP organize and demonstrate using Tera Party scripts... direct quotes, completely backed up with reference material. Then, let's gage the response and raise the appropriate flags.
Until that happens, this whole discussion is basically just sitting in a circle and patting each other on the back.
Bud?
Not sure where you got that idea.
Asking "what if" is what gave us the modern world.
Einstein had no mechanisms to test his theories. everything he proved
he proved by fisrt saying "what if". For example, "what if" i were
flying along side a light beem? Impossible, but it lead him to the theory of Reletivity.
"What if" is an emperically effective strategy, Bud.
Are you a Republican oe something?
[just trying to explain you, not insult you].
BTW - There is never reason to copy Tea Bagger behavior.
Thank God for that.
It would be wrong to behave the way Tea Baggers behave, in any circumstance.

...the harshest critique of alternate history- writers like Harry Turtledove.
But Buford's point is, quit talking about it, asking about it, and do it. Which is probably the only way we'd really know what might happen.
I mentioned game theory because, yeah, you can game out and predict situations and actions people might take, but the more people you consider, the more variables exist. If you're talking about a movement that involves at least a million people, it only takes one of them to do something unpredictable to throw off the prediction by orders of magnitude.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
Interesting.
Is it not true that, the more people you consider, the more predictable they become too. ?
This is the essence of the universe if you follow quantum theory.
[something like that anyway]
anyway, 'what if' is exactly what we should all be asking
when we vote, vote, vote! how's that? :)

... is plain - these blogs and comment boards are full-to-breaking of folks enraged about some stupid thing Palin said or some egregious affront perpetrated by the Republicans, which inevitably leads to questions like, "Can you imagine if she were a Democrat?"... or "If Bush had done this, you know how it woulda been covered by the media...?", all of which are implicitly rhetorical since the person posing the question always follows with their own response.
Futile... all of it.
Nobody really knows what would happen if the suggested scenario were to actually happen, which means, at best, the discussion digresses into wanking about media bias or right-wing hypocrisy... just whining, really.
APE-MAN either saw something in my post that I didn't write, or he intentionally twisted my words to somehow presume I was against hypotheticals, altogether. Wrong. As a means for forward-looking problem solving, hypotheticals are indeed valuable. Using untestable hypotheticals to somehow convince someone that the media would be more critical of Tea Party language/actions if the language/actions were offered by minority groups is futile and worthless... might as well just discuss 'Reasons Sean Hannity is not a journalist'... not fun, not interesting, and of not much value to the big picture.

Texas, Nevada & Arizona would freak out and start arresting Brown-skinned people & patrolling the Mexico border with guns and homemade uniforms.
Oh, wait...
When the Tea Baggers were having their "Gotta Have Gunz" rally across the river from the Lincoln Memorial, someone raised the question, "What if the 35 or so fully armed good ol' boys who showed up, showing off their proxies, were 35 black men with guns? Would the media have handled the story the same way?" Would law enforcement have handled it the same way? (Rhetorical questions, mind you.)

Cause the Tea party which is all white, they know how to vote. They dont spend there time making music videos of what if. They go to there fellow tea party retarded, low educated neighbor and tell them to vote.
Making rap videos of the tea party,
Doing big pro immigration rallies in Arizona and the southwest doesnt matter.
The blacks and hispanics need to get a clue and realize the only way politicians will listen to your concern IS TO VOTE.
They dont get it. Instead they do these big marches and these videos. Thats why the Tea Party is going to win in November. Cause they simply get it. The minorities dont.

Teabaggers win in white areas with white candidates and you buy into the hype and blame minorities.
And like Teabaggers you don't substantiate anything that you've said.
I did not mean it to look like that. I was venting frustration I guess. I dont think I need to substantiate anything about my post since what I posted about was voting and how we are going to lose the majority come this november.
Look at all the polls. I know alot of people that are democrats, but dont know anything about voting and elections. Unless I am wrong, and show me the data how we arent going to get our asses handed to us this November.
don't know anything about voting, the polls are done by the media and the media in't on our side so don't pay too much attention to the polls and be sure to tell them to ignore them.
You're right.
All Persons nend to vote!
Tea Baggers vote, then they wait until they get to vote again!

We just have to encourage a culture of voting.

What do you mean, "us," Paleface?
You talk about People of Colour as though we are things; objects. We're human beings, just like you. There is no monolithic, homogenous group of, "minorities," there are millions of individuals with wants, needs, desires & opinions, just like you & your family, friends, neighbours & co-workers.
The entire point of, "the system," is to create insiders & outsiders. Regardless of whether or not each and every individual Person of Colour knows how to, "use the system," most of us are excluded from it. You may as well say that participants in the Civil Rights Movement should have stopped protesting and committing civil disobedience & just used the system. Do you understand what the Voting Rights Act is and why it's still needed?
Stunning ignorance on your part.
I consider myself above most people. I am an elitist. I see everyone who sees liberal vs republican as inferior to me. I dont play these games. I know both sides are corrupt. I know segments of the black population voted for Obama cause he was black and segments of the white population voted for McCain cause he was white.
In your eyes you saw me talking down ONLY to "Colored Folks" If you had look at my whole post you would have seen me talking down about everyone. I have respect for anyone who strives hard to get what they want. Who works for there home.
I dont see the system as black and white, I see what is wrong with the system. I voted for President Obama for what he stood for. Not for the color of his skin. How many can say that? How many just voted for him cause he was the first black president? How many voted for McCain cause they didnt want see the first black president while they were alive?
You talk about People of Colour as though we are things; objects. We're human beings, just like you.em>
Dont for one second think I think other races are inferior. I do think assholes like you who try to make me look like the bad guy when all I said was the plain simple truth.
I will say it again. Minorities do not vote. Therefore they are boned when it comes to the political system. When it comes to the political system, its all about numbers, So yes we, they, whoever, can all be commoditized to a certain category.
If you havent thought of it like that then your late to the party. Because Fox news already thinks of it that way. The white vote vs everyone else.
...with each new comment you write. There's really no need for me to try to make you look like the bad guy, because you're doing an excellent job all by your ignorant, racist self.
maybe you should change your screen name.
More like "Pete the Ignorant" might work.
well the angry mob is the mob thats going to vote. The latino marches about the immigration bill in arizona, remember seeing them all over the news? They arent going to vote because, excuse my ignorance, but they dont get it. Go to the ballot, cast your vote. Easy.

gerrymandering:
1. The act, process, or an instance of gerrymandering.
2. A district or configuration of districts differing widely in size or population because of gerrymandering.
[After Elbridge Gerry (sala)mander (from the shape of an election district created while Gerry was governor of Massachusetts)]
Notes: "An official statement of the returns of voters for senators give[s] twenty nine friends of peace, and eleven gerrymanders." So reported the May 12, 1813, edition of the Massachusetts Spy.
A gerrymander sounds like a strange political beast, which in fact it is, considered from a historical perspective. This beast was named by combining the word salamander, "a small lizardlike amphibian," with the last name of Elbridge Gerry, a former governor of Massachusetts —a state noted for its varied, often colorful political fauna. Gerry (whose name, incidentally, was pronounced with a hard g, though gerrymander is now commonly pronounced with a soft g ) was immortalized in this way because an election district created by members of his party in 1812 looked like a salamander. According to one version of how gerrymander was coined, the shape of the district attracted the eye of the painter Gilbert Stuart, who noticed it on a map hanging in a newspaper editor's office.
Stuart decorated the map with a head, wings, and claws and then said to the editor, "That will do for a salamander!" "Gerrymander!" came the reply. A new political beast was created then and there. The word is first recorded in April 1812 with respect to the creature or its caricature, but it soon came to mean not only "the action of shaping a district to gain political advantage" but also "any representative elected from such a district by that method." Within the same year gerrymander was also recorded as a verb.

Under Wilson, the United States intervened in Latin America more often than at any other time in our history. We landed troops in Mexico in 1914, Haiti in 1915, the Dominican Republic in 1916, Mexico again in 1916 (and nine more times before the end of Wilson's presidency), Cuba in I917, and Panama in 1918. Throughout his administration Wilson maintained forces in Nicaragua, using them to determine Nicaragua's president and to force passage of a treaty preferential to the United States.
In 1917 Woodrow Wilson took on a major power when he started sending secret monetary aid to the “White” side of the Russian civil war. In the summer of 1918 he authorized a naval blockade of the Soviet Union and sent expeditionary forces to Murmansk, Archangel, and Vladivostok to help overthrow the Russian Revolution. With the blessing of Britain and France, and in a joint command with Japanese soldiers, American forces penetrated westward from Vladivostok to Lake Baikal, supporting Czech and White Russian forces that had declared an anticommunist government headquartered at Omsk. After briefly maintaining front lines as far west as the Volga, the White Russian forces disintegrated by the end of 1919, and our troops finally left Vladivostok on April 1, 1920.

In 1899 Carter Glass was elected to the Virginia state senate, where he was put on the committee of finance and banking. During his career as a state legislator, he was an active debater on suffrage for African Americans, the subject of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. He supported restricting VOTING RIGHTS for illiterate former slaves on the theory that these votes were used by those in power to maintain their power...
Note: After working tirelessly on the subject for five years, the election of 1912 brought an opening: not only did it usher Woodrow Wilson into the White House, but it also gave Glass' party control of both the House and Senate.
Even as he worked to disenfranchise certain segments of society, he had a soft spot in his heart for individual blacks. In the midst of the fight over the Federal Reserve Bill, Glass made a special trip home to Lynchburg to appear at the manslaughter trial of his black servant. He took the witness stand, "swore that William was the best Negro that ever lived in the United States" and pleaded to keep him from imprisonment. When William was fined $200, Congressman Glass reached into his pocket, pulled out a roll of bills, paid the fine, then rushed back to Washington, D.C.

When we were trying to get Ron Paul selected in the Republican primaries we had something good going. The GOP neocons were not welcome unless they totally changed their tune, liberals and progressives were welcome if they came with a willingness to learn about how the establishment was corrupt and was willing to provide ideas and listen to other peoples ideas, and of coarse there was lots of libertarian types, as well as people that had not been involved before.
It looked like the progressives and libertarians might join up and make a push for clearly out Washington D.C. ... which means punish the Crooks and discredit the liars... everyone was willing to say "Maybe I am wrong, but here is my idea" ... solutions that people were talking about were not completely liberal or conservative, but a reasoned mix.
Then the GOP co-opted it and we have Sarah freakin Palin and Bachman as "Tea Party favorites".... what a crock.
And now the progressives are getting screwed by the democrats and even Obama himself.

See that now? It says that the SCOTUS can't use the 14th Amendement's incorporation of the Bill of Rights to the states or localities. Can't rule on it at all if a state or locality decides to establish the majority's religion, or to ban another religion. It says that privacy issues- that would be illegal searches- aren't protected if the majority in the state or locality itself doesn't guarantee its citizens a safeguard from such practices.
Doesn't come across as very libertarian to me. Reads more like Athenian democracy- the one that gave Socrates the choice of exile or hemlock because he dissented.

Some states would change their constitutions in ways that worked and others would find what didn't work... and through this process we get a more perfect union... if some idiots reenacted slavery or something... well .. Lincoln showed how we take care of that kind of thing.

We'll have another Civil War...So be it. I mean. it would just be a war, but this time with modern technology...Nothing wrong with that, huh?
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
If we dont get this government under control soon then think about what is going to happen with.. a police state government with all that technology and cops that are tazering people all over the place for no good reason..
1984?

What do you think the Civil War was if not a police action by a low tech police state?
Man, you're confused.
Gotta go. Good luck getting beyond your logic problems.

We can talk about the 3/5ths Clause, and how it was the root of the Civil War, and how something even worse followed it until the Voting Rights Act.

People like yourself are what is making this happen to us.
Your absolute refusal to let go of your partisan hackery.
Your last comment about the civil war is idiotic.
It has NOTHING to do with the discussion. Just an attempt to sound snarky as some kind of partisan "win" ... ridiculous...

Sorry, you got that wrong.
I don't like half-assed, and Ron Paul and his branch of the teabagging tree aren't even half of that.
And thinking we should let Paul's legislation become law just so we can fight a war over something we're already guaranteed is just insane.

Except the SCOTUS can do anything thing it wants regardless of States laws see Bush v. Gore.
The SCOTUS has been co-opted also.. it has been partisanized with politics.

He's only in favor of civil liberties as applied against the Federal government.
I've linked Baron vs. Baltimore for you in the past. You should have bookmarked that. But it doesn't fit into your worldview. You've projected all of your beliefs on to Paul- something I never did concerning Obama. I'm too old and too cynical to believe in saviors.

"reminent of the Ron Paul people"... ?
Study the symptoms not the virus...
We know how the righties swooned over ACORN....and now are making a very big and phoney-baloney deal about the NBP...all 8 members of them.
If i were Acorn i would sue congress.

A "New Black Panthers" movement which may contain
anywhere from 3 to 8 members and it is all over the news
and has the white right in a tizzy; what do You think
would happen if thousands of black Americans expressing their
right to bear arms marched with their weapons on DC?
I am positive it would not have been carried the same
by the media.
Equality is still only for whitey and the rich
and soon if the Repukes ever have their way,
only for the rich whitey.
Can you imagine if this Tea Party was made up of blacks and they were carrying similar signs and making the same remarks in regards to a white Republican President ? All hell would break loose .These people are the most ignorant , the dumbest and the worst of Americans .
Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .
I would love to see a resurgence of the original Black Panther Party.
I would vote for it. I would even help support it monetarily. What I could not do is join it, at least not in anything other than an auxiliary booster membership -- I'm Caucasian.
But I see a whole world of difference between the original Black Panther Party and a black version of today's Tea Party movement - the first being rational, populist, and supportive of their race, while the Tea Party is irrational, corporatist-directed, and repressive of every other race.
And BTW: Reverend Wright was correct in his statement about "chickens coming home to roost", not unlike a generation earlier when Malcolm X first stated publicly that JFKs assassination was about "chickens coming home to roost". The American intelligence agencies have a term for it, even though they refuse to acknowledge its genesis -- it's called "blow-back".

Too back Clenis didn't have a blow-back
It would've saved us a messy politically driven impeachment.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
if the groups that marched in DC and VA with their guns strapped to their bodies were minorities, or even all women, what would have happened?
I'm so desperate to vacate this country , this cess pool / mental asylum , that I am buying lottery tickets these days !

We couldn't call them teabaggers.
