Joe Biden Thursday night told Sarah Palin not to lecture him on patriotism, after weeks of attacks mocking him for his statement the wealthy should be patriotic and pay higher taxes because not enough has been asked of them.
"Sarah Palin had great fun saying Joe Biden thinks paying taxes is patriotic. Well, let me tell you what Joe Biden thinks," the Delaware senator said at an outdoor rally. "Joe Biden thinks that anybody who takes millions of dollars offshore to avoid paying their fair share is unpatriotic."
"That is not patriotic and it will stop, it will stop in an Obama-Biden administration! Enough! I've had it up to here! Don't lecture me on patriotism," shouted Biden, getting drowned out by the applause of his supporters. "I'm dead tired of being taken advantage of. I'm getting tired of it."

I can't help but be reminded of a biography I read recently of Carole Lombard. Seems Lombard was quite the patriot throughout her brief life. Right before she set out on the war bond drive that was her last (she was killed in a plane crash on the way back to Los Angeles) there's a photo of her holding up a newspaper she'd given an interview to. The banner headline- "LOMBARD GLAD U.S. TAKES MOST OF HER PAY."
She had the right idea. Thanks for sharing. She understood that living in a civilized society (especially when it is waging a war) takes money for the operations of that society. Where do these anti-tax people think the money comes from to pay for police, fire, roads, schools, water and sewers? And that's at the local level. We as Americans were never asked to sacrifice to wage these wars in the Middle East. Instead, we were told to go out and shop, while they borrowed the money for the wars from China, India et al. We took the advice of the greed merchants and are now paying the price by watching our economy implode.

We agree with you, and what has not been brought out is that these secessionist groups are not just talk. They collect weapons for their militias, and all those AK47s are not just for shooting helpless animals from the air.
Now that McCain has done his mea culpa, Obama/Biden would be wise to stay away from responding to old attacks. However, if Palin continues to pull her crap, then Obama/Biden has to challenge McCain if he really is in control of his campaign.

Don't be fooled. This was all planned out in advance to make him appear above the fray. He was receiving too much flak from Republican supporters. He's a mean, OLD man.
I agree that McCain is duplicitous and his comments were hypocritical, but from a political perspective, he did what he had to. Most people will not remember the five minutes after comment, but instead will remember McCain's scolding of some of his supporters. I absolutely believe that if the polls had turned in McCain's favor, he would have kept up with the empty rhetoric. So don't think that I bought into his charade. It is all pure politics on his part.
They will if he follows through and stops trying to represent Obama as a danger to the country and a quasi-terrorist. Some day John McCain will be sitting in Sedona, Arizona, looking at the beautiful red rocks and ask himself if this campaign was worth the loss of his reputation and dignity.

No appearances for Joe today seems surprising since the Dems seem to be on a roll. I agree with the poster who said to ignore the old attacks unless they're brought up again. For the end game I suggest that the Dems remind American voters which party has been in charge for the last eight years, including control of both the House and Senate until only 2 short years ago, and then quickly pivot to a hopeful future.

Biden doesn't need a lecture on patriotism from a secessionist fellow traveler like Sarah Palin. Someone who pals around with the AIP is by definition unpatriotic, no matter how gaudy her American flag pin. Joe Biden has some exceptional Wilmingtonians on his staff. One in particular sat for an appointment with John F. Kennedy in Kennedy's senate office in early 1960. This Wilmingtonian was a high school student at the time. I remember him telling me that JFK was a natural to talk with (like Biden and Obama) and that he had his feet up on the desk.

Been checking the neocon blogs past couple of days. For some strange reason no one is covering the troopergate verdict. I can't understand why. Maybe because they can't scream partisan since the verdict was 12-0. No need to worry, she's claiming it vindicated her. ???
I will tell you something. Some people come out of the military and only talk about it with other vets. McCain talks about his POW experience all the time. It tells me that he thinks about it constantly. This is danger sign of a vet that is unable to cope with his experience. The guy is nuts; he cannot be trusted with the keys to the car. He will drive us off a cliff.

Rarely ever speak of it. I have three friends who were captives in Vietnam, you'd need a crowbar to get them to talk of it. I suggest that before too many people wrench their backs out in singing the praises of Joe Biden, they way wish to first read this article which describes how Biden enthusiastically backed Bush in late 2002 to authorize the United States to invade Iraq. Assuming that this bizarre comment is directed at me, it would then typify the illogical assumption that if one is critical of the [alleged] agent of hope and change, then it automatically follows that one must be a supporter of John McCain. I am also at a loss to understand his claim that I was stating that Obama had links to terrorists. I never said that. What I wrote was that Obama has voted almost each and every time to continue to send funds into Iraq and Afghanistan and by doing that will end up perpetuating the occupations of those two countries by the United States. The link to Media Matters observes that McCain also voted the same way as Obama, as if that is somehow supposed to exculpate the behavior and rhetoric of two pro-corporate and pro-militant candidates such as Barack Obama and John McCain.
