GOP Embarrassment Lynn Jenkins Has A Democratic Challenger For 2010
By Logan Murphy Monday Oct 12, 2009 12:00pmYou may recall the above town hall video of Kansas Republican Lynn Jenkins laughing at a young, uninsured mother and telling her to grow up and get health insurance. Jenkins may be best known for her stunning gaffe in which she talked of the GOP searching for their "great white hope."
Seeing a major opportunity for victory in 2010, Democratic State Senator Laura Kelly has decided to throw her hat in the ring and has announced she will take on Lynn Jenkins:
Kansas State Sen. Laura Kelly, a Topeka Democrat, said Friday she'll run to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins next year.
Democrats like their chances. It's a district that's gone both ways in the past few election cycles, and Jenkins, in her first-term, has had a gaffe or two. (Remember Jenkins' "great white hope" comment from two months ago?)
"Kansas families in the 2nd district deserve a representative who will energetically stand up for their most important concerns - their pocketbooks, their jobs, and their health care - not sit back and block progress in Washington," Kelly said in her campaign announcement.
"In the last few months people from all across the district have been urging me to run for Congress. They are tired of leaders tied to a do-or-die narrow partisan agenda that has failed our country for the last eight years. Saying NO is not enough in these challenging times. People deserve common sense answers and real solutions," she said. Read on...
Lynn Jenkins has been nothing short of an embarrassment to her state and our country and is extremely vulnerable. Jenkins ranks near the top of the right wing nutjob heap -- let's send her packing.

Tried clicking on the link to Kelly's website but got the 404 error message. The link looks okay. I'll try again later to see if it's a temporary problem.

Is her great white hope a well-hung republican?
a well hung pub?
Like under an old tree with his feet a few inches above the ground waiting to be be put into the ground 6 ft. under? (with no insurance)
But let's hope she is a real dem not some form of colored canine. . .
Republican reaction to Americans who can't afford health coverage, housing or food is usually indifference or mockery- Clearly they couldn't care less about other Americans- why is this?
Most were abused as children.
They abuse others in need because "need" was considered weak - and they are so insecure they can't accept anybody in need as anything but weakness.
They have no clue how weak they make themselve by being mean.
Bush's Afghanistan is more important to GOP (Get Obama Party) revisionist historians than Americans.
This is GREAT news - Jenkins is a complete douche. I wish Laura Kelly all the best of luck in her important race.

Why should we vote Democrat if you're just going to vote Republican?
If these repugs think Gov ran health care is going to just F up health care, then Why is All the US Senate and the US House ON Gov Run Health Care????? We are special people. we get the good shit and you tax payers can have the private shit. I have not seen one person question any elected offical on THERE gov ran health care. If gov run health care is so bad, why are YOU on it......
no answers - huh?

Is this lady nuts? What is the difference between the govt giving you a subsidy, and the govt health plan that does basically the same thing,
A lot of people in that district, maybe even a majority, have an issue with the idea of everyone paying a little bit more money to subsidize a few less well off people so they can get health care. The overwhelming majority of people in that room supported Jenkins contention that basically government isn't competent to run full blown national health care, and also seemed to imply that it's not right to compel people to subsidize others, at least on health care.
So the issue is less to do with Jenkins than it does the people who are voting in District 2. But I guess we'll see it things are different in 2010.
this single mom covered, but with minor tweaks that only target the still uninsured and not a broad-sweeping reform that hits those already covered.
also, on a different note--
>>town hall video of Kansas Republican Lynn Jenkins laughing at a young, uninsured mother and telling her to grow up and get health insurance.<<
i listened to this 3 times and could not find once where lynn tells the single mom to grow up and get health insurance, not to mention laugh at her. lynn starts chuckling while talking, but if you listen, others are as well and it may be because the single mom's child sounds like he is doing something peculiar and distracting.
regardless of what is claimed of lynn's treatment towards this single mom, which i find highly inaccurate, the fact still remains that her argument is flawed; no need for a strawman here when her push for a tax break incentive is just an ill-sized band-aid taped to a gaping wound.
I was about to make the same comment about Jenkins laughing at the woman and telling her to grow up and buy insurance but you beat me to it. I didn't see it in the video either. This the second time in the past few weeks that this site has said one thing that someone said at a town hall and when you watch the video, they never said it. A few weeks ago, there was a post where it said that a congressmen told a person that he should sell all his possesions, declare bankruptcy, and then go on a government program if he couldn't afford health insurance. When you watched the video, it wasn't even close. I think we can find plenty of ACCURATE things that the Republicans are doing wrong without inventing things. Don't bring us down to the same level as the idiots on the right.
Like the first poster, I get a 404 error message from the link.
Update? Anyone?
Lynn Jenkins probably couldn't stand being microscoped for being a do-nothing, grazing cow.
Go Laura go!
