I had to check out that "Christmas Billboard". Interesting.

A New Zealand church challenging the notions of a "male" God and "virgin" birth?

Whatever the uproar in NZ, I'm certain it would be 100x worse if they posted it here. :)

Crooked Timber: The failure of trickle down...a

A very good piece, thank you for that. It is relatively long but clearly well thought out and will require study.

A quick point I would make, much has been said about the growing inequality of income in the US, certainly since Reagan began his conquest but really since the early '70s.

Emmanuel Saez has done considerable work in this area, see here.

However, it should be noted, the higher the income bracket, the more resources are available and used to diminish the reported income, LEGALLY. In fact, the higher income types set about writing the tax laws to their advantage.

This skews the understanding of the forces at work.

More important in my thinking is the inequality of wealth, wherein lies the full tale of the disparity of power. This is even greater than the inequality of income.

However the study and thus the reporting of this is more problematic.

But clearly to me, we are in a new gilded age and the Robber Barons of late are having a field day.

If one has one million dollars, that guarantees a lifetime of living reasonably well. How much better at ten million? Why would one need one hundred million? A billion? Ten billion? Sixty billion?

At what level does one transition to being a sociopath?

Working class people, over 60% of the population, to a large extent, have no wealth, except what is in the homes. If they still have one.

Thanks to all of those Repug Regulation Reformers Regurgitants of Ronald Reagan the wealthiest 0.1% saw their income quadruple.
If you were in the upper 5% your income doubled.
If you are below that....the American dream is just a dream.

Not quite right.

They teach that works won't save you without conversion, I think the Anglican 39 Articles no's IX through XIV cover this, particularly Article XIII, which is typical of most Protestants:

http://anglicansonline.org/basics/thirty-nine...

They wanted to avoid the church requiring works that they then charge for like the corrupt medieval church, previous to Martin Luther's 99 Thesesis.

They also avoided any unofficial doctrines like the Roman Catholic Purgatorium, which was never part of the official doctrine.

They also avoided the heresies of Pelagius and his Pelagian followers, and the Mariolatry that was unofficial in the Roman Catholic Church until 1950 with Pope Pius XII Encyclical Munificentissimus Deus.

Sen Coburn is on Washington Journal. He said he has a much better relationship with Obama than he did with bush. He said when he, Coburn, was running for the Senate he criticized bush and as a result they never had a good working relationship. I guess bush doesn't take criticism well.
