Columnist Kathleen Parker is continuing her martyr tour to complain about the meanies who have gone after her for daring to say that Sarah Palin should step down.

Frankly, I'm a little disgusted by Parker's self-congratulatory stance of being "on the front lines" and taking fire for saying things that the GOP don't want to have said out loud. That's not bravery...that's acknowledging reality.

And though he doesn't get her to say it out right, I suspect there's another Barack voter sitting right there.

She wants to sit on a President Obama's lap with his presidential seal pressed against her.

Similar to Lieberman, Parker only abandoned her party when her party rejected her.

At least she's not a "self-hating" sort; she does stand up (eventually)

In one of her columns: "These bastards like Clark and Kerry and that incipient ass, Dean, and Gephardt and Kucinich and that absolute mental midget Sharpton, race baiter, should all be lined up and shot." (quoted a friend of hers-- but continued the cycle of hate speech nonetheless.)

Hate speech is not the same when on the receiving end, perhaps....

some right wingers are tolerable. I hate to be a fool, but there it is.

Kathleen Parker knows which way the wind is blowing. She understood when she wrote that column that there was going to be backlash from cultural conservatives. Maybe she didn't expect the outpouring of vitriol coming her way because she's never really experienced the rage that progressives face daily. She assumed her readers would appreciate the candor of saying that the emporer had no clothes on. To continue her career she is trying to pivot and gain favor with the new majority. Since she is a fairly moderate conservative, by today's standards, she may be able to pull that off. Some ex-conservatives writers have proven themselves to be sincere progressives. David Brock at Media Matters is a shining example. Time will tell.

Yeah, but have you seen Joe's legs. Parker has him there...

I'm just glad there is a Republican woman out there tearing Palin down. We need more of them.

Absolutely, the more Parkers the better.

There are so many on the right that are comparing Palin to Queen Esther, it's nice to have some that see the light. I don't give a rat's behind if Parker is jumping ship. I say bravo.

For more on Palin's Queen Esther complex, go here

By the time his show airs I am usually worn out on politics (having watched Olberman and Stewart earlier in the evening), but I happened to catch this last night & it was hilarious. Parker definitely hinted that she would be voting for Obama. My how far Rove's plan for a "permanent republican majority" has fallen.

Should this martyr somehow be cannonized now since she's spoken the truth? Hell, it's something every american has known for weeks now.

i understand your point but i will have to say it takes a lot of guts to speak against your party's candidate.
the (R) believe in your with us or against us NO middle ground. parker knows the Palin is a train wreck
waiting to happen...win or lose she is making her case. parker further reveals to us the hate that is on the
republican side. they will eat their own before accepting/ listening/considering criticizism. some independents will listen to a woman speak about a woman. to me it's NOT gender Palin is just a person
over her head......period.

The video doesn't work for me on windows media "play". I get a new screen with the an ad on the right and the video player on the left, but it never plays.

The picture looks like Colbert is the minister who is praying for her as she is confessing her sins to him

Colbert is so funny New

Now that it's coming down to the wire, it looks as though several prominent past Republican supporters are endorsing Obama for president.

Today there is word that Christopher Buckley has resigned from the National Review, the Ur-"Modern Conservative" publication founded by his father, after he publicly endorsed Obama for president.

He claimed that he had been "fatwahed by the conservative movement" after announcing his resignation.

In a report of the resignation written by Patricia Cohen at the NY Times The Caucus blog, Buckley said:

Mr. Buckley said he did not understand the sense of betrayal that some of his conservative colleagues felt, but said that the fury and ugly comments his endorsement generated is "part of
the calcification of modern discourse. It’s so angry." Quoting Ronald Reagan, he added, "I haven’t left the Republican Party. It left me."

good for him. orthodoxy can be inane .... and refuge of sorts for those needing comfort of conformity.

Sounds good to me!

turn on cnn. they are doing a segment on palin's past

What's the gist of it? Anything about the witchdoctor?

The part I saw was about the AIP. They must have struck a nerve because Rick Sanchez just read a message they received from the McCain camp and they aren't happy with CNN. The McCain camp compared what CNN is doing to questioning Obama's religion. They scolded CNN for going down this path.

when the truth comes out. Good for CNN.

Mondays
www.democracynow.org
has a great segment on AIP and the Wichdoctor check it out...

This is the article they were talking about on CNN and Niewert (one of the authors of the article) was on with Sanchez

The AIP is now a 'religion'?

Remember, Kathleen Parker is horrible. She's had a lot of vitriolic things to say about liberals and Democrats. The thing I remember most is her jesus-baiting after 9-11, stating something like: God (jesus not allah) gained a fragile foothold in our atheistic country because of the attacks.

Sanchez has been having a special on the Palin's involvement with the Alaska secession party and her video is about to be aired. Of course, we've circulated it around the internet for weeks but it's encouraging that CNN is now informing americans about these anti-government connections.

Sanchez referred to an official statement from the McCain campaign....check it out right now...

This is explosive.

That part said about the AIP trying to "infiltrate" political positions was eerie.

Sarah Palin and aerial wolf hunting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQobIUE1zTU

$150 for the severed forearm of each wolf? Makes you wonder how much she'd paid a supporter to bring her the severed head of a presidential candidate? http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2008/1....

Just another "pro-life" "compassionate conservative" here folks.

"Just another "pro-life" "compassionate conservative" here folks."

The ReThugs are full of oxymorons. And morons.

That Kathleen Parker is now a "victim" of the kind of hate she has encouraged throughout her career strikes me nothing more than a case of justifiable schadenfreude.

Is it me or was there some serious flirting going on back and forth?

Kat, STFU and endorse Obama already. You know you want to.
F*ck it, we'll take you in.

It's good that she's voting for Obama, but she shouldn't be forgiven for the hateful stupidity she's written and spoken about in the past.

Frankly, the woman is more than a bit of a bigot, and she's certainly a huge fear monger.

Let Sarah Palin stay on the ticket. Let her destroy the Republican Party.

The sane people will finally have a say in things.

It goes without saying that McCain's pathetic and reckless selection of Palin is now destroying his own campaign. We could have predicted this weeks ago.

CNN is now having an expose on the Alaska Secessionist Party, it's founder Volger who was the closest thing to a domestic terrorist as any of us can imagine.

Palin's intimate connections to this anti-government group is unfolding. It's like a gathering tsuname which will take her down for the count.

Sanchez has it on CNN right now - complete with her video taped "keep up the good work" message just THIS YEAR! And that fraud is out there launching attacks against Obama for a man's actions when Obama was 8 years old? WTF? Have they all gone mad?

This AIP connection of both Todd and Sarah totally disqualifies either of them for occupying the White House.

Volger, who founded the AIP (secessionist party of Alaska) spewed such vitriot toward the US government that he would surely be classified as a domestic terrorist if he were alive today. This goes without saying.

The fact that it was Sarah's intention to "infiltrate" our government with these anti-government individuals is downright frightening. And they're trying to scare people about Obama? Should have told us what they were up to right thenand there.

McCain and Palin have become the "enemies within" and we've witnessed their anti-patriot act behavior at their hate rallies.

There is NO WAY THESE TWO ANTI-AMERICANS CAN EVER GET NEAR THE WHITE HOUSE.

...she runs to the "enemy" for support and comfort. Strange how all of those wimpy, liberals that she used to deride, are the ones she trusts more than her own. Isn't it horrible Kathleen, when you realize that the very people you used to demonize are really compassionate and decent people. And the corollary is true, the party you are running from is filled with hateful, vicious bastards!!!

Redemption is always an option in the Democratic Party.

In it he condemns Obama for his economic plan which he contends will cost 3.5 trillion; yet economists over at Think Progress have done a cost analysis of McCain's own plan - guess what it weighs in at $8.5 trillion.....a $5 trillion dollar increase over Obama's.

This campaign keeps shooting itself in the foot and outing itself for it's own stupidity.

McCain doesn't have much campaign money and he's wasting it on his stupid ads. Once again, he's going to be outed tomorrow at the debate for the cost of his "new plan" which is $8.5 Trillion....or $5 trillion more than Obama's Plan.

This guy's become a national joke.

I think Parker could have done more damage to Palin if Colbert has been quiet more and let her speak more.

Meh

She doesn't get credit for running away with her tail between her legs even if she is complaining about the other rats while she does it.
The ship is sinking, she's part of the exodus trying to escape the suction effect and she can't understand why the wingers clinging to the smashed rudder aren't praising her for her 'candor'. LOL! It's certainly something worthy of a comedy show.

Guess what Kathleen? Political commentary isn't for the thin skinned or weak. If you step into controversial issues, you better get ready. And furthermore---who do you think you your right wing base is anyway---sunday school children? Grow up and get real and quit your whining. The world wasn't make exclusively for you.

Haven't been here for a while so surprised to see the new format. Looks nice but unfortunately the content is the same, actually worse. Pick up your kool-aid at the window, get in line and pledge allegience to the Obama cult. Your upside-down world in the Obama fog will even welcome the indecency, the lunacy and the hate speech of someone like Kathleen Parker. How do so many people just have their minds snap shut and adopt the pack mentality?

please take your dime store psychology elsewhere. you weren't missed. go back to your island and reread
some books about what it takes to have a complex democracy model.

Gee, it must be interesting for somebody such as yourself, to have nothing to stand for. Is it lonely in there? Your mind, casting about like a feather in the wind.

I'd hate to think what's going on in the dormant organ you keep in that rat's maze of yours.

Nicole: Frankly, I'm a little disgusted by Parker's self-congratulatory stance of being "on the front lines" and taking fire for saying things that the GOP don't want to have said out loud. That's not bravery...that's acknowledging reality.

Aww .. c'mon Nicole ..

For a Republican, acknowledging reality IS an act of bravery!

How I long for the days when 'Obama is a celebrity' was stinging critisizm. Remember those days? sigh

That hyperventilating, fast-talking (approx. 300 words per minute) denizen of the binary world (black/white, equivalence "reporting") CNN shill, Wolf Blitzkrieg, has't yet -- and he may not -- focused on the AIP dementia of her Mooseness, Lady Pailin. "The best news team on TV!" -- give me a break.

She is so into him! You can see it. If he wants her, she's his.

What else could you conclude by a conversation that goes:

Colbert: ". . . and I'm gonna HAMMER you!"

Parker: "Thank you!" (then quietly as Colbert starts speaking) "Promises. . . "

Word has it that Limbaugh is talking privately about a big time McSame defeat. Half-brain Hannity next?

Hey

I would Flirt with KP to. She is Hot..

Palin is Bush with lipstick.

Parker is McCain in a skirt.

Pithy and memorable!

When you've made your career in a movement that's lost all grasp on reality, recognizing it is a pretty big step.

wow .. I thought they all died with Jeane Kirkpatrick

I don't agree with them, but I can respect them

I'm amazed at how mediocre this woman seems to me.
I think that you only need to be literate to write for a right-wing publication.
I had the incredible feeling that she thinks she's really smart, and she was trying to be clever. In my view, she failed.
It was a nice ha-ha interview, and she barely got out of there with her skin intact.

I was amused how Colbert manhandled her and she admitted it EVERY time he trapped her and plowed right through a rhetorical question.

Kat finally got a taste of her own medicine. Let her rot.

The first part of rehab is admitting there is a problem. People can change. We'll see. For now though, she's attacking Palin and the GOP, so...

And, in other news of conservatives eating their own, Christopher Buckley, son of William F. Buckley and columnist at National Review, has lost his column (fired or forced to resign, depending on how you look at it), for supporting Barack Obama.

At least the National Review does value its subscribers, I suppose.

I'd hit it.

Honestly, I don't really care what she has written or said in the past; I don't really care what her motives are for going on the Colbert Report were; I am just really happy that there are some conservatives speaking out against Palin. I wish there were more of them speaking out against her. She is an extremely scary person, and it's sickening when you see people like Ari Fleischer tonight (on The Daily Show) continue to defend the woman.

I was happy to see that Christopher Buckley (WFB's son) say that he's voting for Obama, citing Palin as an example why.
