But DAMNIT if we don't have those new $3 Billion warships that were, in reality, obsolete 20 years ago.
Also, the lady sitting in the chair needs to have a "Social Security" and a "Medicare" pointer. How about a few "Public College education" pointers. "Learned to write at Public School". "Protected Free Speech" "Flag defended by public employees in Navy, Army, Airforce"
They used to say that freedom wasn't free but I guess the GOP logic is that we just keep borrowing the money. The fact is they simply complain no matter what.
It kind of looks like the blonde lady with the glasses (Mrs. Cut-Taxes-Not-Defense) is shaking her fist at that evil, socialist road, so she might have the right idea. (Then again, does she have to do it from that socialist sidewalk? Well, baby steps, I guess.)
Someone has to pay for the bombs and bullets she so dearly loves. What they mean is, tax someone, but not me. The current crop of 40 to 65 year olds has to be the most self centered, self absorbed generation this nation has ever seen. The greatest generation spawned a generation of idiots.

Having lived overseas in a military community for the last 17 years, I was pretty shocked when I returned to the nifty 50 last November and discovered how many Americans have this incredible sense of entitlement.
None of the signs are spelled incorrectly so it's a pretty safe assumption that all of those people are, at least, partially educated. Unless they all went to private schools, their schools were funded with tax dollars.
These are people who just want to have their cake and eat it too.
Fuck each and every last one of them.
Amen brother! I have a boatload of in-laws and neighbors who went from prosperity, to unemployment and economic uncertainty under BushCo. and the republicans. Yet, they still think they are gonna get rich with their GOP taxcuts. And they don't even have jobs!
Thats how cluelessly fucking stupid they are.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Just say 'No to welfare' (except, of course, Military Industrial, Big Pharma, Big AgriBiz. Corporate Welfare in general and above all Welfare for Banksters).
The whole "Taxation Without Representation" thing particularly amuses me. (There's no sign saying this in the picture, but I've seen them.) Do the Teabaggers have any real idea of what that means? Do they have no knowledge of the events and reasons behind the whole American Revolution?

I don't see how the Teabaggers can claim "Taxation Without Representation" when they clearly have elected officials representing them in Congress. Something our American colonists didn't have.

Wait wait I got it you fund defense by using private huge profit companies like Zbear/Blackwater by allowing them to resell the booty they get by defending our borders! That's it! Booty!

the tea bagger movement was without leadership and meaning. hey none of us love taxes but as we all
know it's the necessary evil. to me the tea bagger movement was an attempt of confusion and deception. you look at the timing the BANKs getting attacked/revealed and the wealthy elite getting their TAX haven strategy revealed. what has to be understood is that the financial/trade relationship has helped keep taxes lower than they could have been. NOW china has evolvedmorphed into a primary international player. the people have had their lifestyle changed but until recently the wealthy elite have been in complete control. corporations, financial institutions and wealthy elite are being ASKed to play by some rules....pay your legal/fair taxes. with the ongoing and ever increasing globilization there has/is a lot of collateral damage as more work is done overseas. the people get left behind are putting a burden on public services backed by taxation. this goofy movement is taking/putting people off track/focus by design.
I have an elderly cousin. He gets his insurance from the VA and his wife gets hers from Medicare. They are both staunch anti-tax Texan conservatives. One day when I was visiting, they were both railing against how much they hated the programs. They said the country would be much better if all insurance plans were private and the gov't got out of the health care industry altogether.
I asked them why, if they believed this, they didn't get private insurance instead. Their response was, "We probably couldn't get any due to pre-existing conditions, and if we could, it would probably be way more than we could afford to pay and definitely more than what we pay now."
They saw no logical contradiction over the fact that they wanted to end only program that could give them affordable coverage. Their basic logic was, "But, IF private insurance would cover us, and IF we could afford it, the quality of care would PROBABLY be better."
No doubt the lady sitting down in that chair has the same exact crazy logic as my cousins.
NO offense to your cousin but this something i often experience in conversation regarding this same topic. when slightly pressed there's NO to little substance about their position. this demographic has
picked a side if you will and they stick with it right or wrong. it's at times as simple as the (r) are for
lower taxes and the dems love taxes. bush to my knowledge did very little in tax relief for middleclass
income taxation much of the cuts were for higher income people. this tea bagger deal is to get
common/everyday folk to side and blame someone. in doing so reduce/dilute/take your thoughts
off the banks getting bailed out/upcoming healthCare. it's smoke and mirrors/shell game. actually i am surprised there is NOT a "Can't take my Gun" sign.
The sad part is if we didn't have government and taxes the 80 year old who lives next to me, you, and them would suffer without these programs. And they don't care. people like us are concerned about our neighbor who didn't get a pension when they were able to work or health care.
It's that simple when it comes to us and them. They don't care about anyone but themselves. They talk about how great this country and it's people are. Not them, they blame the homeless for being homeless, they blame the uninsured for being uninsured, they blame the hungry for being hungry. They just don't care. If I had to give another 20 bucks a week from my paycheck to make sure every person gets the same health care and every child goes to bed at night with a full stomach, have at it. It's not socialism it's compassion.
I know a woman who complains about big gov't, and identifies herself as a libertarian (no taxes for social programs since it's not in the Constitution) yet she has 3 kids with autism who are getting state help...um....way to stand up for your principles there, lady.
Since they're on FOX 24 hours a day. That and two and three letter words. It is quite impressive that the one lady got defense right. Most conservatives couldn't spell cat if you spotted them the "c" and the "a".
I don't know, "socialist" gets thrown around a lot on Fox News, but I still saw a sign protesting the "scholiasts" in Congress. Frankly, I didn't know writing in the margins when you read a book was that big an issue.
To be fair, a lot of the things in this picture could have been paid for by local taxes and/or municipal bonds, or even in part from various local fees & fines (parking/speeding tickets/property taxes, etc). Its theoretically possible none of these things required federal tax dollars.
Are teabaggers against all taxes, or just federal taxes? I actually don't know the answer to that.
Eh, I know some libertarians (the big anti-federal gov't crowd) and they claim to be against federal taxes (especially income taxes) but most of these teabagger schmucks (or at least the vocal ones) don't seem to know WHAT they're against or for.
...I thought the same thing when I saw it. I told my dad about it and he laughed his ass off. Yeah, the Pentagon is a private corporation with their own funding...didn't you know?!!
These people are socialists because they're standing on a government paid sidewalk. They probably read Mao Tse-Tung, Lenin, Marx, and Engles (Engels?, sp?), and watch Battleship Potemkin every Friday night.
As some have said, Somalia is a libertarian paradise. Why just relocate there?
Just gotta love that lady in the front with the sign proudly proclaiming, "Zero Taxes," not even zero tax INCREASES, just zero taxes PERIOD. Well, as I always say, if you're going to go off the deep end, better you should do so with style.
that they could really appreciate, like Somalia. Somalians don't pay taxes, and, as far as I know, it's a free market economy based, at least right now, mainly on piracy. There, the people aren't burdened by having roads that are paved or any kind of a pesky infrastructure so there is no sniveling about paying for such luxuries. They don't worry about schools, or public safety, or sewage treatment or any of the totally worthless government maintained things that even teabagging Americans all take for granted. And, since Somalia also has adopted the 2nd amendment protection of the right to bear arms, a handy militia with a warlord base is the functional unit of society and they have thereby retained their precious hold on a strong defense (even though it has utterly disrupted and destroyed the society and culture) at the expense of any other type of societal need which should make teabaggers infinitely happy and secure for the future of Somalia. That should strike a powerful cord with teabaggers. I invite Rupert Murdoch to reconsider his residency status and take up residence in the Shangrila of Somalia. And he could take Fox news, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Beck and all of his loud mouth lackeys and all the teabaggers with him. They could make a nice home for themselves in Somalia. And we could be rid of them for once and for all.
this has already received national attention, (ie all the righty sites and blogs are following this travesty) here is the latest on the local nutjobs. http://www.quincynews.org/local-news/mcqueen-...
When corporations get tax exceptions, hide their wealth in off shore banks, send good jobs overseas but sell in the USA w/o tax regulations, and the rich pay less taxes thru accounting loopholes we are all made to pay their share. When 90% have 10% of the wealth but pay the majority of taxes we have an equality problem. Granted taxes have to be paid to live in a democracy. But it has to improve the equality.
Recently, it was reported that City Bank paid 2% taxes while also getting a taxpayer bailout. I would love to have a 2% tax rate and a bailout.
That is perfect! And don't forget those protesters who stood across from the White House in Lafayette Park. That's p-a-r-k. As in, paid for and mainained either entirely or largely with federal taxpayer money. And how did they get there? On the subway system? On surface streets? Etc. etc. But as George Lakoff points out, trying to convince the wingnuts using logic and reason is completely futile.
My brother-in-laws just stare off into space with a look of imbecilic contentment when confronted with logic and facts.
They cannot coherently support the shit they believe in, or logically debate its positive impact without denying every relevant piece of ACTUAL history. And they know this.
Yet, they are certain that it really is better than liberalism, even though they have all been nearly wiped out by Bush and the GOP.
But hey, that doesn't matter, because republicans are their friends.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
"And what is worse is a set of myths believed by liberals and progressives. These myths come from a good source, but they end up hurting us badly.
The myths began with the Enlightenment, and the first one goes like this: The truth will set us free, and if we just tell people the facts, since people are basically rational beings, they'll all reach the right conclusions.
But we know from cognitive science that people do not think like that. They think in frames....To be accepted, the truth must fit people's frames. If the facts do not fit a frame, the frame stays and the facts bounce off."
George Lakoff, "Don't Think of an Elephant!", pp. 16-17.
None of Federal Income Tax goes to pay for roads, or traffic lights etc etc. Regardless, the idea is to pay less taxes not no taxes.
In the 1980s, 100% of our federal income tax was paid to interest on the National Debt -- a large part of it owned by a private company (the Fed). When interest rates go back up, we will be paying 100% of our federal income tax to interest on the national debt once again. (The Fed owns around $800B.)
Your so-called "faulty logic" is what founded our nation.
Remember, you've been taught that centralizing power always helps society and that truth is relative. Both are wrong -- sorry to say.
These loons are talking about zero taxes, wether local, state, or federal seems to be irrelevant to them. So the point of the picture still stands: all those things were indeed paid for with taxes.
Taxes are money you pay to a government. How could it possibly matter to a taxpayer which level of government the taxes go to? Also, don't forget that, after the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy bankrupted the federal government, many localities had to raise their taxes to make up for the shortfall, and many state universities likewise had to raise their tuitions. Looking solely at federal taxes with blinders on is an erroneous and largely irrelevant right-wing frame.
Oh really? One of the greatest economic booms in our history occured after the interstate highway project that was Federally funded. And that's just one example.
You rightwing kooks really need to quit making shit up if your going to come to progressive blogs.
And furthermore, what the hell are you talking about when you say the point is to pay less taxes, instead of no taxes. What a dumb fucking statement!
How do you pay less taxes and keep up with an expanding economy, changing technological capabilities, while at the same time maintaining the current infrastructure? YOU CAN"T! That's exactly what we have been doing, and it doesn't work!
And you probably think your the smartest guy in the room? Good grief!
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
My landlady showed me one of those viral emails, this one had all the famous quotes of King Ronald Reagan (you know, former Democrat and Socialist union president) leading with their favorite, "The 11 most frightening words in the English language are 'Hi! I'm from the government and I'm here to help you!'" So I asked: "Where did you get this?"
Her: "From my emails."
Me: "Off the internet?"
Her: "Yeah, of course."
Me: "You mean the same internet invented by DARPA, a DOD (government) agency and provided to the civilian sector free of charge, through judicially protected monopolies of phone lines and powered by a national power grid built and paid for by tax dollars, with intellectual property rights that are guaranteed by a massive judicial & police infrastructure (without which, nobody would BUILD a Microsoft)? You mean THAT internet?"
Her: "Uh, yeah."
Me: DAMN GOVERNMENT!!!
What is DARPA?
What does it do?
How does it do it?
Now that you've answered those three questions and realize that "DARPA" is nothing more than people doing things. What makes you believe that those people would not have invented the internet minus the "government"?
DARPA is the Defense Advanced Research Project Administration. Real high-tech military weapons. That's what it do. It's a DOD R&D division, funded by the government.
Would they have invented it had they not had gov't funding & support? We'll never know. But they sure wouldn't have provided it for free! (Besides, it would probably have been the "intellectual property" of whatever corp. they worked for.
But you're right about one thing. The "government" is people doing things. It's US!!!
and what the "government" people do is threaten to murder and murder people who don't want to pay for their monopoly. This "US" you speak of are ALL complicit in the threats of murder and murder. NICE!! Who raised you?
hate to tell you this, but the New Englanders have their fair share of self centered idiots. In fact, Manhattan, greater Boston and Connecticut have a breed all their own.
yes to all of these especially tax churches .... and add to it .. release all non-violent drug prisoners. And get rid of private prisons that use people as slave labor.
Sorry but our income taxes do not pay for any of those things pointed to by the arrows ... while the protesters in the picture are absolutely clueless the article itself is also misleading ... we pay a huge amount of taxes from property to gasoline to hotel and flight. Our food is taxed, our automobiles are taxed and so on ... these are what pay for most of the social services and roads for example ... but out income tax pays for the military industrial spending and payment of the national debt which in actuality in the interest due to the private bankers at the "Federal Reserve" who charge us interest on every dollar in circulation. The income tax or tax on our wages is unconstitutional. It's an extortion scam that was passed in a midnight session of congress by one vote in 1913. The IRS is just as illegal operating as an intimidation strong arm for the bankers to keep us in line ... our income taxes are extorted from us illegally ..
... there have been a couple of libertarians who already made the same intellectually dishonest post, I mean almost verbatim. You guys should get a better talking point. LOL.
The whole idea of this lame protest was to make it seem like Obama was raising taxes on the working class. The elite don't want their taxes raised so very rich interests organized a "grass roots" movement to make it look like the people were outraged at Obama's spending ... The irony is that while Obama may be raising taxes on the rich we will all pay for the bailouts so in effect all our taxes just skyrocketed. So in a weird way their protest is correct even though they don't get it at all and are being manipulated by super rich interests. The elite / Republicans don't have grass root movements because they represent the rich who don't march in the street. They have to orchestrate fake movements ... like the fake reaction to Cindy Sheehan outside Crawford and Bush's ranch. If you noticed the so called angry right wing had elaborate bold red whit and blue giant signs saying support our troops ... it was totally staged for media and other stupid right wingers.
You do realize the no tax dollars go to paying for the power lines or the phone lines, right?
Distribution lines are owned by the local utility - in a few cases the utility is municipally owned and run, but Munis make up a tiny percentage of power companies in this country.
Just make sure you get your facts straight before saying 'nuff.
The big problem is they are protesting the wrong thing. They don't want taxes for the rich...they have no problem taxing the hell out of the poor....have been for 8 years now.
I personally do not believe that Income Tax is constitutional. Were we truly a capitalist society we would not be indentured servants. Abolish income tax and raise consumption tax! Obviously taxes must be in place or the simple public amenities we so enjoy would cease to exist. But if america had a more logical consumption tax system and were not considered in debt to the gov just for making a living we would be out of this mess!
Here is how a proper tax system works.
Essential items such as unprepared food and water should not be taxed. Clothing and gas should be the lowest tax (since they are not essential to survival, but are essential to society). Anything non-essential should be taxed based on it's value. Therefore a cd would incur a lesser tax rate than say a boat. This way, if you are barely making ends meet and would be entitled to receive your income tax back at the end of the year you will just not get taxed very much. But, if you make more money and are inclined to spend it on frivolous items you will be taxed more! That way, taxes are evenly spread...BUT if someone makes $300,000 a year and decides to live in a studio apt and not live lavishly he will not be taxed out the ass and therefore be punished for simply being successful.
As was said, everyone wants their cake and eat it too. But the truth is, in a true capitalist society the people should be rewarded for success...but should also contribute more to society through over consumption! If you live in luxury, you give more to society as a whole...if you live in poverty, you should only have to fend for yourself. It is such a simple concept!
Does the military establishment qualify as being supported by taxes?
That's different. People can die due to untreated medical conditions, they can starve to death due to hunger, they can be dumb as a rock due to a shitty (or no) education...
But DAMNIT if we don't have those new $3 Billion warships that were, in reality, obsolete 20 years ago.
yes
the US Armed Forces are probably the world's largest socialistic institution. How do they like them apples?
How about the police in the background? Does that get counted too? And the public park that they are standing near btw?
...they need an arrow point to the sign that says national defense.
yep it is...
She's probably drawing welfare like Joe the Plumber
it does not get any more glorious than that when it comes to logical dissonance...
and the every appropriate "i am a nut" pointer
I wonder if that lady knows how we fund our military.
How can so many stupid people have so much influence?
It kind of looks like the blonde lady with the glasses (Mrs. Cut-Taxes-Not-Defense) is shaking her fist at that evil, socialist road, so she might have the right idea. (Then again, does she have to do it from that socialist sidewalk? Well, baby steps, I guess.)

That is hilarous sort of, even the homeless are Republicans.
to see how it works read a couple short chapters of this short book "Reagan's America"

And killing the poison http://www.psychohistory.com/reagan/r148x163.htm but the whole thing is interesting and educational

no taxation without representation wasn't the spark that initiated the boston tea party
believe it or not, it was the removal of taxes
that's right, the king LOWERED taxes for his homeys and THAT'S what sent the founders balistic
it's a convoluted story over all but the final straw was the king lowering taxes not raising them
little inconvenient truth for these "tea baggers" that
Good point.
I don't see how the Teabaggers can claim "Taxation Without Representation" when they clearly have elected officials representing them in Congress. Something our American colonists didn't have.

look along mid right border some type of official looking vehicle.

A chunk goes to holders of Treasury obligations -- China and Saudi Arabia, for example.
Another huge chunk goes to arms makers.
A third huge chunk goes to running the federal government.
And nothing goes for universal health care.
Maybe the teabaggers have a point...without knowing it.
What would be the point of these teabaggers, do pray tell...
There only point, is proof positive that morons are capable of gathering in numbers!

although i do see the irony of a anti tax pro war/empire protesters . And that woman is wrong, Obama hasn't cut defence spending .
All that lot makes $250,000? They must have the priciest Goodwill in America.
This is too funny. The lazy old lady in the chair is lucky she has that sidewalk. She'd tip over on uneven ground if our taxes didn't pay for it.

picked a side if you will and they stick with it right or wrong. it's at times as simple as the (r) are for
lower taxes and the dems love taxes. bush to my knowledge did very little in tax relief for middleclass
income taxation much of the cuts were for higher income people. this tea bagger deal is to get
common/everyday folk to side and blame someone. in doing so reduce/dilute/take your thoughts
off the banks getting bailed out/upcoming healthCare. it's smoke and mirrors/shell game. actually i am surprised there is NOT a "Can't take my Gun" sign.
It's not socialism it's compassion.
is intended to be a factual statement
Its probably on the other side.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
I know a woman who complains about big gov't, and identifies herself as a libertarian (no taxes for social programs since it's not in the Constitution) yet she has 3 kids with autism who are getting state help...um....way to stand up for your principles there, lady.
After these last few comments about people's friends and relatives, I am starting to see how McCain got 46% of the vote last year.
Stupid is, as stupid does!
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Very funny but incredibly sad.
At least they got those signs spelled correctly.
They got spell check on their government bailout companies computers.
Since they're on FOX 24 hours a day. That and two and three letter words. It is quite impressive that the one lady got defense right. Most conservatives couldn't spell cat if you spotted them the "c" and the "a".
is intended to be a factual statement
Some of the 21%ers!
Why do they hate America?
How does that nutter think the defense department is funded? These people are too stupid to wallk and chew gum at the same time.
...I thought the same thing when I saw it. I told my dad about it and he laughed his ass off. Yeah, the Pentagon is a private corporation with their own funding...didn't you know?!!
They have been financially raped by the rich, and there response is to make sure we don't raise their (the rich) taxes!
That makes sense? In bizzarro world.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
"Guaranteed She's gettin a SS check"
Along with Medicare. And by my count, about 80% of the people in that picture are probably in the same hypocritical boat as her.
Maybe the are Fox employees that were bused in by Fox? Wouldn't surprise me. Doesn't KKKarl work their now?
That would be right up his alley.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
These people are socialists because they're standing on a government paid sidewalk. They probably read Mao Tse-Tung, Lenin, Marx, and Engles (Engels?, sp?), and watch Battleship Potemkin every Friday night.
As some have said, Somalia is a libertarian paradise. Why just relocate there?
see some police in the background on the righthand side as well
Just gotta love that lady in the front with the sign proudly proclaiming, "Zero Taxes," not even zero tax INCREASES, just zero taxes PERIOD.
And we could be rid of them for once and for all.
get your facts straight on Somalia. Watch and learn:

Cut taxes, not defense! And pay for that defense with magic pixie dust!
this has already received national attention, (ie all the righty sites and blogs are following this travesty) here is the latest on the local nutjobs.

"every cloud is silver liney"
When corporations get tax exceptions, hide their wealth in off shore banks, send good jobs overseas but sell in the USA w/o tax regulations, and the rich pay less taxes thru accounting loopholes we are all made to pay their share. When 90% have 10% of the wealth but pay the majority of taxes we have an equality problem. Granted taxes have to be paid to live in a democracy. But it has to improve the equality.
Recently, it was reported that City Bank paid 2% taxes while also getting a taxpayer bailout. I would love to have a 2% tax rate and a bailout.
And these idiots think their lives will improve if we cut corporate taxes. More money to invest blah blah blah.........
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
He's right on that one.
The myths began with the Enlightenment, and the first one goes like this:
The truth will set us free, and if we just tell people the facts, since people are basically rational beings, they'll all reach the right conclusions.
You could look at it from another angle, and say that none of the debt was paid off, and that all of the spending went to roads, traffic lights, etc.
Thus is deficit spending.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
a lot of conservatives.
Excellent retort Peabody.
Excellent retort Peabody.
opening the eyes of the mentally challenged? Good for you.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
NICE!! Who raised you?
but death and taxes. Get used to it whiny repukes, the reaper will get you sooner or later.
Bite my shiny metal ass.
http://www.startalkradio.net/
Obviously these dumb asses don't realize that taxes pay for our defense, not to mention many other vital services.
These people are so dumb that I'm embarrassed for them.
*
Thats nice of you. Especially since the have no shame personally.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
there is a cop car in the background right behind the power for traffic light. cant believe you missed it.
The one thing these people have in common ? Gross ignorance and stupidity , these people have brains the size of a pea .
Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .
hate to tell you this, but the New Englanders have their fair share of self centered idiots. In fact, Manhattan, greater Boston and Connecticut have a breed all their own.
wow!
i don't know how she expects to pay for our bloated defense program then.
legalize pot?
tax abortions?
tax churches?
we should definitely streamline defense spending, maybe arm the citizens???
yes to all of these especially tax churches .... and add to it .. release all non-violent drug prisoners. And get rid of private prisons that use people as slave labor.
Awesome!
Great KKK Rally. Politically correct though - no hoods or cross burnings these days.
You do realize the no tax dollars go to paying for the power lines or the phone lines, right?
Distribution lines are owned by the local utility - in a few cases the utility is municipally owned and run, but Munis make up a tiny percentage of power companies in this country.
Just make sure you get your facts straight before saying 'nuff.
power distribution lines and telco infrastructure are/were heavily subsidized via public money. Right?
These are Limp-Dick's idiot friends who he got out of the Reslug mental ward with a day pass. They did enjoy the teabagging though over their faces.
Why is it that the government can be so good at military spending but nothing else?
