On Wednesday, I reported for The Daily Beast that key leaders of the white supremacist movement are seeking new opportunities to infiltrate and influence the political mainstream, particularly within the Republican base. An exclusive new video, shown here for the first time, offers new evidence of their strategic push.
In the video, shot by an amateur videographer (available here) who provided me exclusive access to his footage, an unidentified staffer from one of the country’s most popular white supremacist radio programs, The Political Cesspool, is seen promoting his show’s website at an October 13 rally for Sarah Palin in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Just feet away, Randall Terry, founder of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, hands out fliers and recruits volunteers to canvas for McCain-Palin.
Though neither Political Cesspool nor Randall Terry have any known contact with the McCain-Palin campaign, their presence at the recent Palin rally presents one of the clearest portraits yet of the far right’s attempts to exploit the Republican base’s anti-Obama resentment for organizational gain.
According to its "Statement of Principles," the Political Cesspool "represent[s] a philosophy that is pro-White" and which "heartily endorse[s] and accept[s] as our own, the founding tenets of the Council of Conservative Citizens [CCC]," America’s largest white supremacist group. A 2007 article in the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Report noted that, “The Political Cesspool' in the past two years has become the primary radio nexus of hate in America.”
Your "soulmate", Senator McCain, the one you say "energizes the base" that you're so proud of is pallin' around with white supremacists and people who advocate harassment of Planned Parenthood offices. What a fine person of which to be proud.

There's absolutely no doubt about it - Sarah Palin will be known as the face of white supremacist, secessionist, hate mongering. She chose this path and spewed hate language from the stump which americans will NEVER forget or forgive her for. She's totally over in terms of a future political career.

Funny this is just how the religious right took over the republican party in TXass and it spread without the even seeing it come. They infiltrated all over the country and bam they took over the republican party. At the end of this campaign their will be a war within the party to see who will lead the republicans. Will it be the far rightwing nut party of Palin and company or a intelligent conservative party who doesn't want the religious extreme, and KKK groups taking over their party. Lets pray for the countries sake that neither of those 2 groups will wn.

The much vaulted 72-hour plan has taken a step closer to the zealots and nuts and kooks of this nation. Rove instituted this plan to nullify the urban vote by inspiring the historically lower turnout blocks from the religious and "moral" sectors of America to get out the vote; however, doing so has had a seemingly unintended consequence --- the Republican party has become beholden on the most remote flanks of the right wing in order to get elected.
It's sad really that the party of Lincoln has turned into the mockery of a real political party we see before us today.

Sarah Palin has become a national disgrace and a nighmare for the McCain camp. Her reputation is sinking like the Titanic - just wait until the new ethics investigation reveals that she illegally charged the people of Alaska for her children's travel - something she sneakily attempted to do when she was tapped as Veep - she actually called her staff and asked them to change the expense sheets. This means big trouble for this fraud.
But what's more - this woman has intentionally represented the "dark side" of human nature - the vile, disgusting, hate-filled and fear-inciting side of humanity. She will NEVER change the impression she is leaving with americans on this. NEVER!
I hope that the citizens of Alaska who have now been shown the "real Sarah Palin" will censure or indict this unethical, disgraceful woman from the Governorship. At the very least, as a ethically-challenged individual, they will be very happy to see her leave office when her term expires.
She can kiss any political future in this country good-bye for the rest of her life. She chose her path - the path of evil and disgusting tactics and will never be seen as anything but that in the eyes of most americans.

I cannot imagine what is to come. The hate and lies have been outrageous and some "patriotic" American is going to feel it is his/her mandate to save America from the black, terrorist loving, baby killing, not-born-in-America, gay FREAK who usurped the election with rampant
voterregistration fraud, and is not THEIR president.I think this scares me as much as the thought of McCain or Palin at the head of our country.
I would like to think that crafting this image for herself - as she clearly is - will prevent her from being a serious contender as leader of the party in four years - but who knows?
There is clearly a movement for these sentiments within the party itself, including Bill Kristol and James Dobson, both influential in the party - but as the re-thuglic party has gone careening out of control it has increasingly turned itself over to frightening fringe factions. If Sarah Palin wants to lead that - let her - Americans are waking up and it will be a ticket to nowhere for her.

As much as I agree that the smarmy McCain/Palin campaign has benefited from race-baiting - and engaged in it themselves at times - I still think it's a long shot to say that they align them selves with or endorse any random group that shows up at their rally.
The white supremacists LOVED Ron Paul, but we all know Paul thinks they're scum. I think the connection being made here is one unsubstantiated step too far. Unless there's proof the campaign staff made the candidates aware of their presence -- and the candidates refused to speak out against the group's presence or implicit endorsement -- there's no story here incriminating the McCain/Palin campaign, only the white supremacists themselves.
Yes Paul did call them scum. Palin however is known back in AK not support minority groups. She was even heard in a restaurant talking about minority groups. You never hear her say anything when someone in the crowd says something they shouldn't say. That is a fact.

I've seen some punditry suggesting that many moderate conservatives may split entirely from the neocon-controlled party and create a new one. I'm thinking instead that the natural destination of the splitters might be the libertarian camp.

I was listening to some clips of a McCain rally and I keep hearing the same thing--"We have to FIGHT for this" and "we have to FIGHT for that" and "I'm going to FIGHT for you" and I'm wondering --who are they suggesting we fight? Aren't we supposed to acheive our desired ends through VOTING? Isn't that what having an election is all about? What are we fighting against? If we're fighting against anything, aren't we fighting against the failed policies of the past eight years that caused the mess we're in today?
McCain used the term fight or fought more than 40 times in his, what was it, 20 minute acceptance speech at the RNC.
I used to counsel domestic violence offenders(had to quit...nightmares). Grandpa with his nasty dispostions and his legendary temperament and outbursts, are seriously loud cries for help....red flags waving everywhere.

you betcha by golly yeah. before i realized that political cesspool was an actual entity, i thought sure the post was referring to rush.
I keep hearing the Right whine and more importantly the MSM seeming to agree that the MSM has a pro Obama bias. Forget the fact that we've had to listen to months of EMPTY harping about Ayers and Wright, what I want to know is why hasn't ANYONE in the MSM addressed to the McCain campaign the fact that his campaign seems to be energizing groups like the kkk, neo-nazis, white supremacists, etc... And while no one is saying anyone in the McCain campaign is connected with or is anything less than disgusted with these groups, its still amazing no one has asked McCain or Palin about this facet of his campaign. Specifically how he feels about these groups' support and does he feel any responsibility for inflaming these groups with his campaigns' charges of socialism, anti-americanism, elitism, not knowing who Obama really is, saying he's not like you, etc...
If McCain is "disgusted" he has not said so. In fact he has said he is "proud" of all his supporters at these events. He doesn't feel any "responsibility" for inflaming these groups because he denies they exist. He in fact defended them by stating that people at Obama events say worse about him. I personally haven't heard anything but "Boos" after which Obama says "Don't boo, VOTE".
Face it, make any suggestion McCain is a racist and you'll just get huffed up indignation and no response. But if you couch your question charitably it help a little. Like:
Sen. McCain, though obviously you have no connection with hate groups and are proud of your support for civil rights (snort) nonetheless your campaign seems to be energizing hate groups, I was wondering how you feel about that, or how you feel about a certain percentage of your supporters who are voting for you merely because they would never vote for a black man, how do you feel about that Sen. and do you have anything to say to your supporters that do harbor such racist attitudes?

This is no shock- The Republican Party has long been a white power group, wanting the reigns of power to remain in the hands of white Christian men.

According to Palin, what the Founders intended with the First Amendment was that political candidates for the most powerful offices in the country and Governors of states would be free to say whatever they want without being criticized in the newspapers. The First Amendment was meant to ensure that powerful political officials would not be "attacked" in the papers. It is even possible to imagine more breathaking ignorance from someone holding high office and running for even higher office?
