"McCain picked Michael Palin?" - Keith Olbermann

Actually, according to another Monty Python member - John Cleese - Sarah Palin is a living Monty Python sketch ("She's like a trained (dead) parrot") and funnier than Michael Palin.

We got a race to monitor up in Alaska.
We got a race to plan for in Georgia..
We got a race up in the air in Minnesota.

We got Charlie Brown over in California.
We got Missouri yet to be called.

We got an election system that needs reformed.

We need more Power to the People.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC1PvDRHNDo

The few "Analaysts" commenting are coming up with far-fetched reasons why turn-out was so low... ie. the weather. I corrupt convicted felon who was down in some polls by 22% wins the election!!! and the weather was the culprit... give me a break.... at least the Washington Post has something out there on the story... but is this just going to get buried or what?

xoites defends Constitution's picture

It is being talked about, but Obama getting elected is such a huge story (still) that the media is talking of very little else at the moment.

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents's picture

way too many votes uncounted.

too many missing votes.

and sarah became very unpopular as the election cycle wore on, even in alaska.

Some stuff you can't make up!

... and its probably because there are no sustantive video clips on the subject in the media.... I have heard some talk about it in the comments... but why is this not being investigated?

Nicole Belle's picture

If you look at 538.com and Bradblog, they've done work on this. We really don't do a lot of focusing on voter fraud in this respect. But also, the election is not yet decided. We don't want to make it more of a mess than it already is.

Orangutan.'s picture

And it needs to be publicized...

I hope and I think it has to be addressed by President Elect Obama that they just take away the press passes of Faux and any of the right wing nuts out there. Bush and Co. suppressed and intimidated the press, certainly Obama should be able to suppress propaganda.

MsJoanne's picture

And now allow me a bitch (not aimed at you, Ron)...

As I was reading through the threads today, I couldn't help but notice what I think is an alarming trend in people here already giving up hope and slamming Obama.

He's not even sworn in yet and we're already not giving him a chance?

WTF is up with that?

ron's picture

I'm reading the same shit. Though one of the naysayers is a Canuck and I tend to ignore him as much as I can.

xoites defends Constitution's picture

If Obama takes away anybody's press credentials (he won't) he will certainly lose my support.

We don't need to silence Fox or anyone else. We need a return to the Fairness Doctrine and a break up of the media monopolies.

ron's picture

Is not a news organization X. I'm sorry, that is not the press.

xoites defends Constitution's picture

You know i have no respect for Fox News but i have a commitment to the Constitution. If you want to hear the right freak out and scream we are becoming a dictatorship all you have to do is as you suggested and i would have to side with them.

Their propaganda is only part of the problem. We solved a much large part of the problem on Tuesday.

except, there is no real first amendment protection when one uses the public airwaves

every station gets a license....you, as part of the public, have a right to challenge that license....however, the bush admin may have fixed that too, because many stations no longer serve the public good

ron's picture

Even the Air America hosts don't agree with the old Fairness Doctrine.

xoites defends Constitution's picture

Then i guess i don't agree with Air America.

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents's picture

Cable is not public airwaves. I could be wrong, but I remember reading something about this some time ago.

Uncle Joe Mccarthy's picture

will you guys please get off this already?

it wasnt really working before reagan got rid of it

and as we saw from the past election, the new media trumps what is going on in the dinasour media

yes, there is a problem with the fcc, and hopefully obama will deal with that too, with his new appointment....but we do not need a return of the fairness doctrine

xoites defends Constitution's picture

I would love to hear your arguments against it. I must have never heard any.

MsJoanne's picture

The FD was gamed by Reagan to get "the other side" heard about his beloved star wars defense system. There were more than 6000 scientists against it. But because of the FD, Reagan got THREE scientists (very respected ones) to create a foundation (the George C Marshall Institute), perform a massive Letter to the Editor campaign and go on as a rebuttal to all the scientists that were against it. So it was 6000+ to 3, but those 3 were given equal time and equal weight.

The same process has been used (by the same [now expanded] group, no less), by global warming deniers.

Google Naomi Oreskes (who is a professor of history and science studies at, I believe, UC), and see if you can find a speech she gave on global warming. She explained in detail how Reagan did this. I saw it on either Free Speech TV or the University of California station on Dish a few months back.

Fox News Cut Out From Questions At Obama's First Press Conference

President-Elect Barack Obama held his first press conference yesterday, one that focused mainly on the current economic crisis. One detail that flew under the radar, however, was which networks and newpapers got to ask questions, or, rather, which one didn't get to ask a question. As Media Bistro notes, one network who was not called upon sticks out: Fox News.

But one idea seems to be gaining traction, and improbably it has Bill Cosby and Karl Rove in agreement: "The Cosby Show," which began on NBC in 1984 and depicted the Huxtables, an upwardly mobile black family -- a departure from the dysfunction and bickering that had characterized some previous shows about black families -- had succeeded in changing racial attitudes enough to make an Obama candidacy possible.

On election night Mr. Rove, the former Bush strategist, said on Fox News: "We've had an African-American first family for many years in different forms. When 'The Cosby Show' was on, that was America's family. It wasn't a black family. It was America's family."

Court Ruling On Absentee Ballots Favors Franken As Minnesota Recount Looms

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Sen. Norm Coleman has failed in an attempt to block some absentee ballots from being counted in his close race with Democrat Al Franken.

A Ramsey County judge on Saturday denied the request because of lack of jurisdiction. The incumbent Republican had tried to block 32 ballots from heavily Democratic Hennepin County.

Coleman's campaign says the ballots were not counted on Election Day or were not kept in sealed boxes. It says the request was made amid "increasing questions about unexplained and improbable shifts in vote counts."

The most recent vote tally has Coleman leading Franken by only a couple hundred votes. A recount is planned.

good post.
mud slinging doesn't work anymore. many of these right wing extremists are embarassed and perplexed.the american people are not amused by them anymore. some have serious mental, life, and health issues.

coulter, malkin,o'reilly and limbaugh have serious anger management issues. ann coulter has a flat affect which indicates depression and often over medication.even when she smiles she seems sad. it takes a lot of energy to hate.

o'reilly who champions himself as a family man was sued for sexual harassment with embarassing details of his frequent caribbean romps coming to light.
we all know limbaugh is on heavy medication and has had problems with over medication.

malkin is a soldier of fortune, egged on, paid, and controlled by the pursuit of the great money available in shockjocking. She is so shrill even Fox feeds her with a long handle spoon.her efforts were successful in making the obama campaign return a $240.00 contribution from his aunt because her citizenship status is questionable. wow.
her internment book was written to stir up controvery, injure, and take money from vets with sleight of hand. most internment victims were americans whose homes, vehicles, money, and belongings were looted while they were imprisoned.

it's my belief that most of these people are depressed, imbalanced, angry, paranoid, and most of all, overmedicated.

idealistic in NM's picture

Wow, good points made. What you posted makes me think.
You know how, after some awful school shooting in the suburbs somewhere, the victims are mourned, the perpetrators (if they haven't shot themselves in some misplaced, diabolical "blaze of glory") get psychologically examined, and then all the pundits get to analyzin' ? What invariably always seems to come to light is that those teen shooters were medicated. Overmedicated, even. Makes you think.
So Limpballs, Coulter, O'Reilly, etc. aren't going to shoot up anything. But mentally, oh boy...what must be going through their overmedicated heads as they shoot up American democracy, the airwaves, and free thinking.

Hmmm.

Ferrofluid's picture

Fractional reserve banking, they lend out 10 times what they take in, ponzi pyramid style thing. the interest on lending pays the original loaners.

a lot of the commodity dealers like COMEX gold also do fractional selling of spot items. they sell ten time the amount of the instock physical items.

derivatives, which includes futures, selling items that dont physically exist yet, 500 trillions dollars worth globally per annum.

stock markets, short selling which is borrowing shares (pretend control) and offering them for sale, which then drops the price in the market, you then go out and buy the shares at the new lower price, pocket the difference and give the shares to the buyer (who bought them at the higher price).

naked short selling which is pretending to borrow shares, basically fraud. as you dont have control of the thing you are selling. The Hedgefunds a week or so ago and VW/Porsche, the hedgefunds (401k companies) lost $30 billion selling and buying 15% of the shares when only 5% were in the market.

The whole financial system is a crock of shit, but it sort of works for everyday business and small peoples wages/loans and makes a lot of connected people very rich (in pretend money).

the more you read of it, the more you scream.

Have I missed out on anything ! corrections welcome.

Orangutan.'s picture

You know this is exactly what anyone serious about reform needs to be dealing with. It is appreciated anytime it is brought up by those who know. Can't find solutions if you don't know the problems. If you are interested in diagnosing the problems you might as well look for the root. The Federal Reserve System (private as it is) and the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 have received for too little scrutiny and far too few discussions. Hopefully more of us can change that in the near future.

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents's picture

I was just discussing that last night with my brother and uncle. They have a trading mechanism for everything, real and concocted

derivatives, which includes futures, selling items that don't physically exist yet, 500 trillions dollars worth globally per annum.

that is the perfect description.

and it's obvious that if they solved the crisis by buying the real estate, the imaginary-money vacuum would disappear.

rather weird.

"Is any of this stuff made in Israel?"

June 27, 2003 (dated but timeless!) A Missouri company has been fined $6,000 for not reporting a customer's question to the federal government. The question that's punished by law is: Are any of these products made in Israel, or made of Israeli materials?

http://www.axisoflogic.com/cgi-bin/exec/view....

If a company or business doesn't immediately report this question to Washington

Knowing violators of the anti-boycott provisions face fines of up to $50,000, or five times the value of the exports at issue, and possible imprisonment. Offenders can also be denied export privileges.

The Bureau of Industry and Security says it has imposed more than $26 million in fines for violations of the provisions.

my question here is why is it unpatriotic to question our president elects stated policys? when is the best time to be concerned about them? and did obama mean hes going to widen the war in afganistan and further the policy of going after iran that may or may not be trying to produce a nuke for the porpose of self defence from america and israel both of whom have in one way or another have attacked them before! seems to me its the same old retoric of the bush administration, the war whores are now saying we need to completly rebuild our war machine because its been depleted and worn out in iraq, billions will be spent and the only winners will be the corporations who profit off of war! sure obamas not in office yet but hes going to be our next president , and if he only stated these views just to get votes from the hardliners of the right he no longer needs them, and its time to get real with the american people , will it be more war or is it time for peace? i have said before these wars are not what we sighned on for its the bush cheny wars , if obama calls for our youths to join up in the military to beef up the war in afganistan then hes only carrying out the goals of the bush cheny policys,

MsJoanne's picture

NOTHING to do with blind loyalty and everything to do with Obama hasn't done anything yet (well, actually he has, which was documented above by CIP). Obama is president elect NOT yet president, yet you railed him for...what exactly?

Yes, hold their feet to the fire, but can we wait to see ANYTHING before jumping the gun and saying Obama won't do anything?

MsJoanne's picture

I think you need to go back and reread your posts from yesterday to see why people were upset by what you wrote.

I am totally calling bullshit on this one.

You came across like a jerk (and Uncle Joe M came off as an even bigger jerk).

Had I been around during the actual discussion, and not reading it at the airport on my phone, I would have asked you both to go to your respective corners...and his corner would have had a big dunce cap awaiting him. While you were simply a jerk, he was a total asshole.

Give some thought to what you write. I found it offensive as did many others. I wouldn't have given you the same treatment that I have of others from outside of America who tell us what a bunch of dumbfucks we are, because you didn't quite reach that level, but I think you could have chosen what you wrote better than you did.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

Sorry MsJoanne. After rereading my posts, I understand your point and apologize to all if I sounded like a complete jerk. That was not my intent. I have nothing but respect for C&L and the posters on here. What set me off was one poster telling me to STFU. I have never posted that to anyone, and would not. When I post, it is with regards to the US government and the greater wingnuts in power, and not intending to slur posters on here. Sorry if I came across as an ass.

What got me really, really angry was one of the responses to you (and it wasn't the STFU one, either...sorry, I kinda agreed with that one :-D ). My fingers would have ached typing out my very angry response to his idiotic tirade.

No matter, I welcome you and our other Canadian brethren (hmmm...is there a sistren out there? Nevermind.) with open arms. But I will continue to call bullshit when I see it, and I don't care which section of the world it comes from, including right here at home.

Peace, my brutha.

Imagine Sarah Palin watching a Monty Python. She would think it was the work of the devil, not that she would understand them. This one is perfection. The peasant standing up to the king is priceless. Something the US citizens should have done 8 years ago,
As C&Lers are intent on being watch dogs to the goings on of wingnuttery , one of you touched on mental conditions. All extreme crusaders out there in public should be viewed with great suspicion because of the great defence mechanism of projection, accusing people of the very thing that is their own dark hearts.
Acting self righteous to cover up their evil side.(church by day/porn by night.) It's also of course depression and bi polar speaking.I'm afraid undiagnosed cancer speaks this way too. I've worked in the health and welfare field, plus in a mental institution and when I meet such people in public, the red flag races up the pole. As I'm outside of America, I only know many of these wingnuts, through these blogs.
Also, Murdoch practically runs Australia, he basically gives the nod who runs the country. He also tells the citizens how they should run their lives. He swans over here like he's on a royal tour. He is giving a couple of televised lectures. They are self righteous, as if he is a wise man telling us we have to fix the economy, fix climate change. Hey, he reminds me of the king in the Monty Python clip.
The Labor Party in power have to battle Murdoch media more than the conservatives. That's why it is a great effort to get back into power, you have to overcome the conservatives, Murdoch and the media. Rather like the Dems.

I've seen that Grail clip over and over again, and I still laugh.
