... it's about Obama, a black democratic president.

Some say, "the more things change, the more they stay the same."

Therefore, racism towards the first black/bi-racial president dies hard!

Although, what about Clinton's efforts to reform health care? It's still an issue now as it was then in 1993.

insurance companies of the top six! Healthcare is in the hands of the traders that got us into the Economic meltdown...We have Goldman et al between us and our doctors NOW!!!!

Enough--- can we trust the wallstreet crooks with our healthcare!

Inject sanity? But only the sane seem to be willing to listen . . .

*sigh*

That would be good to have a public options that health insurance companies will have to compete with in order to lower costs.

However, there has been a huge Medical Lobbying Industrial Congressional Complex with an agenda for the status quo as health care costs continue to rise.

So, if these teabaggers don't want any health care in their lives, they don't need to get any - just leave the 70% or more, the new great silent majority with the health care they need at reduced costs, or no costs at all. Saying, "no government takeover of my health care" or "no government takeover of my medicare" is really fascism of itself!

I prefer the term "healthcare privateers"

I was just using such a term somewhat paraphrased from Eisenhower, who is likely spinning in his grave on how his Military Industrial Complex warning has really evolved into not just the military, but with the economic and medical industrial complexes - also that capitalist industrial complex with its mindless advertising and consumerism.

Oh!

I like that term.

the financial industrial complex...

and they work closely with The Federal Reserve corporation who is...

republicans have NEVER yet dealt with facts. They have NEVER yet said one thing is wrong with a public option. They keep spewing nonsense about socialism and government takeover even though none exist or are proposed. So progressives that argue the facts are just talking to the wind - certainly no republican is listening.

Bill Maher showed a very interesting pie chart a couple of months ago where about 39 trillion dollars was used by the private, corporate sector independently, while only about 82 billion dollars was any/all government takeover and government-run businesses. It was a very clear chart that showed this disproportion with only a sliver of government takeover in the economy and the bailouts thereof.

As for the job market, it does seem that government jobs generally pay better, even if they don't come with benefits. Go figure on why there has been 0% job growth in the private/corporate sector!

the private health care insurance industry is failing by producing to many "losers" if you will. with foreign countries undercutting our labor/wages and providing less to no regulation "outsourcing" will continue to be the trend. we are now more than ever in competition with other countries for business/employment.
other countries are providing universal health care so we need to compete by bringing competition to our existing health care insurance system. a large national government PAYing pool will put some fear into the private health care insurance industry. the main goal(s) of the public option have to be: full access to everyone and reduce cost of health care insurance. in my opinion this could have a huge impact on this countries ability to compete in a global economy. i do believe there are some global/financial elites that don't want us to compete. they're more concerned about their wallStreet darling CHiNA.

Talk about a lack of stimulus for the middle-working class of America. I would imagine that the current US manufacturing jobs are roughly around 0%-2%.

As for much of us being "held hostage" by the health insurance industries, they sure are quick to take money, but extremely slow to reimburse it - tax refund checks take less time than that to come in the mail!

...are about 10% of the total workforce.

"I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it."

I wondered, did he mean the progressive caucus regarding the public option or republicans or even blue dogs?

From the 60 minutes thing Obama clarifies (via TPM):
"Right now you've got just a political environment where there are those in the Republican Party who think the best thing to do is just to kill reform, that that will be good politics,"

Hmm sounds like Republicans. It looks like the public option is very much on the table then. So, the only question is which version, the good version or one of the crippled ones? Time to call congress.

The Public Option is a compromise for a Single Payer system. Single Payer is the cheapest system and the most moral system. It is the most moral system because it takes Profits and Market Greed out of the equation. Single Payer announces to all citizens that they shall be treated the same regardless if one lives in Beverly Hills or South Central LA. The Public Option is only a watered down version of that moral argument. In the future, the USA will get the full version of Single Payer -- (probably not in my lifetime). Single Payer is the future of any civilized industrial country. It's a little like Electric Lights, the future is staring right at us.

But I'm not getting any reassurances form the Obama/Ralm Emanuel Administration. I'm starting to feel that I've been "Punked". They have betrayed Progressives due to the seductive swim in the Money Ocean of K Street corruption and deal making. It's not a pretty picture, but one I can't ignore any longer. There's a reason Healthcare Stocks rose average 3% the day after Obama's gifted speech. The speech was beautiful, but the Progressive policies within Obama's Speech are so watered down, they have become only in themselves Corporate Dog Whistles.

I try to stay optimistic. Only a few strong advocates, such as Gov. Howard Dean, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Anthony Weiner, and Bill Moyers, are speaking about True Healthcare Reform. Voices, such as these, give me hope.

Please, Mr. President, talk me down. (To tell the truth, I wasn't even sure I wanted to post.)

not everyone is going to like 'compromise' but we know it's reality. i'm optimistic but not without concern. this health care insurance issue is much bigger than president obama. the health care insurance industry was ready for this fight before obama was on the scene. i give president obama credit for his intentions to help bring change to the the health care insurance industry. the capitalist/global elist in my opinion are leveling the playing field in the global economy.

WASHINGTON, Sept 11, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Rising health care costs are the single biggest economic concern facing American businesses, according to a survey of business leaders released today by Business Forward.

Nearly 90% of those polled cite health care costs as a major concern, more than cite taxes, government regulation, labor costs or energy costs.

Without reform, 86% of those polled believe that health care costs will continue to rise in the next five years, and 55% believe it will go up "a lot." If costs continue to rise as expected, nearly 9 out of 10 business leaders expect to raise their employees' deductibles and copayments. Nearly 8 out of 10 expect to cut benefits. And nearly one in three expects to lay off employees.

"Year after year, business leaders have watched health care costs consume a larger part of their budgets and our economy, and they want action," said Business Forward Executive Director Jim Doyle. "This poll reminds us why it is so important for business leaders, trade groups, regulators, Congress and the President to stay at the negotiating table." The poll, conducted by Anzalone Liszt Research in advance of President Obama's address to Congress, showed that 57% of business leaders believe health care reform should be an important government policy. They support key elements of a reform plan, including insurance exchange (78% favorable), efficiency reforms and an oversight commission (71%), requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions (79%) and a public health option (51%).

"At a time when many Americans are worried about partisanship on both sides, this support is significant, because it comes from a group -- business leaders -- that is disproportionately Republican," said Doyle.

The survey also indicates that the surge in interest among business leaders during the 2008 campaigns is likely to continue -- and it could have a big impact on Washington. One in three business leaders became more involved in the 2008 campaign than in previous campaigns, and nearly nine out of ten of those leaders expect to be even more involved in future campaigns.

Business Forward is a new organization dedicated to building business support for policies that promote America's economic competitiveness, particularly those that relate to health care, energy, the environment and education. Business Forward briefs business leaders on key issues, holds conferences and press events, issues policy briefings and engages in other public advocacy initiatives.

Methodology. Anzalone Liszt Research conducted n=800 live telephone interviews with U.S. business leaders. Interviews were conducted between August 19 and September 1, 2009. Respondents were selected at random, and represent 9 major sectors of the U.S. economy, covering 81% of national payroll according to 2007 NAICS data (construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, retail trade, finance / insurance, healthcare / social assistance, professional / scientific / technical services, administrative support / waste management / remediation services, and accommodation / food services). Respondents are executive-level employees who are both knowledgeable about their company's healthcare costs, and involved in decision-making regarding their company's healthcare expenses. Respondents represent small (1-99 employees), medium (100-999) and large (1000+) firms. Expected margin of sampling error for these results is +/- 3.5% with a 95% confidence level.

govt competing with insurance companies...sounds good to me!

It looks like I will have three options...

1). get healthcare from govt...

2). get healthcare from private insurance companies...

3). or (since I cant afford it) and am in perfect health anyway ...choose not to get healthcare insurance at all and be faced with a $3,850 fine from the federal govt? ...is that how this will work?

and the healthcare from gov't doesn't apply to everyone. it only applies to those who can't afford private insurance.

this is a huge windfall for the health insurance industry. the public option should be open to all, and it should either:
a.) but subject to all the nitpicky regulation in each of the 50 states, just like private insurance companies are; or
b.) the federal government should pre-empt all the states, and write its own national standard for regulation

that would be a level playing field. but no one is actually proposing a level playing field. certainly not Congressional Democrats or Obama.

I'm gonna be forced to get healthcare one way or the other ...or face a fine for being poor?

(nagahappen) no effin' way! ...Outrageous!

(it doesnt sound like an option to me) ...back to teabaggin' for me!

(that was quick!) $3,800 (over my dead body) ...some option that is!

leave it to the govt to call it the "public option" ...only to find out that not having insurance...is not an option! sounds like Orwellian doublespeak to me!

I'm sure Ron Paul will look after you. Heis a gynocologist I believe.

I think a proctologist would be more appropriate...

I will be in jail cuz I wont pay a $3,800 fine...I just wont!

do you know what happens in jail?

I'm screwed! (because I'm poor) ($3,800 bucks...my ass!)

With no insurance, if you get sick who will pay your medical bills? 5 day average hospital stay is about $25k. Alot more than $3800 and more than the average insurance for a family of 4 at $12k per year. Does the government or society pick up the bill (socialism) or do you get denied care and left on the street? No one goes through life perfectly healthy. Not a smart bet and could lead to financial ruin. Wonder how much a public option would cost?

Democrats aren't getting the job done. Accusing Republicans of obstructionism when they are the minority party is f'n ridiculous. The fact of the matter is, the Democrat party has forgotten how to lead. They have forgotten what being the majority party means.

Robert Reich is shown actual size.

Robert Reich is correct. Voices in support of the public option have to be heard. So far, however, the only rallies I've heard about have been con. (pun intended) The pro side is just now getting fired up. Better late than never. I've never been to Washington D.C., but would gladly drive there for this important cause.

Someone pick a date and get the word out.(like Beck did) Lets show them a real rally.

Consider the Connection to:
The Economic Pyramid
The Economic Pyramid has 2 sides NEGATIVE (-) & POSITIVE (+).
At the top of the NEGATIVE Pyramid Health Care Indusry X_____(Health Care Profiteers, Lobbyists, & Invested Interest), collect money from the consumer (U&I), and dispense Trick'le-down Health Care, their primary care is the bottom line.
Which side are U on (-) or (+)?
The choice is ours, our health care is in the balance.
Where is the Economic Pyramid?

...much too complicated for the American people.

And to those who think the only problem is people who can't stand having an African American president, think again.

1 Today in the US there are huge numbers of stupid people.
2 Huge numbers of ignorant people (not always the same as number 1).
3 Huge numbers of selfish people.
4 Huge numbers of dishonest people.
5 And lots of bigots too.

That's most of our fellow citizens. It's unreasonable to expect a simple clarifying message like that provided by Reich to make any real difference when those are the people he's talking to.

My next door neighbor is sure that every American can get adequate health care at the ER. And when I tried to get her to read fifteen or so pages in the book "Money Driven Medicine", she refused.
