This Week marks the passings of actress Jean Simmons, pianist Earl Wild, geneticist Marshall Nirenberg, and author Erich Segal. In addition, the Pentagon released the names of six servicemembers killed in Afghanistan.

Air Force TSgt Adam K Ginett, 29, of Knightdale, NC

Army SFC Michael P Shannon, 52, of Canadensis, PA

Army SSG Thaddeus S Montgomery, 29, of West Yellowstone, MT

Army CPT Paul Pena, 27, of San Marcos, TX

According to iCasualties, this brings the total number of allied servicemembers killed in Iraq to 4,692; in Afghanistan, 1,605. During this same period, Iraq Body Count lists 35 Iraqi civilians killed. Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, protesters are decrying the amount of civilian deaths, the majority of which NATO insists were caused by insurgents.
