Rick Sanchez obliterates Joe the Plumber

Born in communist Cuba, Rick Sanchez knows a thing or two about media censorship. So when Joe the Plumber Middle East War Correspondent starts babbling on about how the media shouldn't be permitted to cover war, Rick goes off. Listen to Sanchez read Joe's gibberish as if he were a 2nd grader. Too funny.

CNN Transcripts:

Meanwhile, something else to take note of today. I want to share with you the thoughts of Samuel Wurzelbacher -- you know, "Joe the Plumber" -- now Joe the war correspondent. Yes, he's been in Israel filing reports.

And here's his analysis, as reported by the Associated Press. You're going to love this: "I don't think journalists should be anywhere around war. I mean you guys report where our troops are at. You report what's happening day to day. You make a big deal out of it. I think it's asinine. I think media should be abolished from, you know, reporting, war is hell."

There you have it.

Samuel, let me talk to you directly....

This isn't the first time Sanchez has squared off against Joe. See here for their first encounter.

Full transcript below the fold:

First, I was born in a communist country, so I'm familiar with people like you -- and Fidel Castro, by the way -- not to name drop -- who also think "that media should be abolished."

Number two, I've covered wars. And while I can't speak for war correspondents who put their lives on the line every day, I can tell you, what they do is requisite -- essential to our democracy.

Whether you've insulted them is up to them to tell you.

But I will tell you who you have insulted. Forty-one journalists were killed last year -- two already killed this year -- while trying to practice their craft. They can't speak for themselves, because they're no longer with us, Samuel.

And their children, their wives and husbands, their fathers and mothers -- they don't have a TV show.

So on behalf of them, Sam, let's see, you're not really a licensed plumber. You're not really a war correspondent. And your name isn't even really Joe. I think we all do know, though, who you are.

You know that guy who lives down the street -- the guy who shows up at the backyard barbecue when there's free food?

You know that guy?

He knows everything about everything, but really knows nothing, hates everything and everybody. He can't understand why anybody would find any fault with him. You know, the obnoxious guy -- there's always one at every party or every gathering on every block. You know that guy. We all know that guy.

Well, that guy wasn't made famous by John McCain and Sarah Palin. You were, Sam. So we're stuck with you. But it doesn't mean that we can't call you out.

In fact, I just did.

Joe the Plumber's report sounds like some kid's begrudging Christmas thank you letter to Grandma.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

LMAO I love it. Can't wait for Joe -er- Samuel's response!

I took the plunge and registered with pjtv (short videos are free on the site -- longer videos require a "$ubscription" - I'm curious but not a masochist -- I'm OK with the free videos)- I had to see these videos myself. There is a response posted to Rick Sanchez' comments. In parts, Joe sounds like he's been slapped soundly and, in the rest, still as single-track minded and led around by his boss and those in Israel who are taking him around the neighborhoods.

Joe is still well in need of humbling and needs to 'fess up as to how "independent" his "reporting" really is.

Wordsmith's picture

Ohmigosh! Rick Sanchez has been known to get on my last two nerves, but this was Good. I couldn't stop giggling....too funny.

Good job pointing out the ACTUAL journalists who have lost their lives reporting, ya know, NEWS.

Buckeyegirl's picture

Rick Sanchez can be a bit pompous for my taste, but in this instance he was spot on to give "Joe the Whoevah" a good swift kick in his stupid ass!

we had jon stewart and stephen colbert...and they did a bang-up job. in fact, i don't think i could have made it through without them. and stephen's calling bush out to his face at the press corps dinner what nothing less than brilliant :)

chillingly, I hope--just how inclined towards submission to fascism have grown the great mooing masses of the people.

It has been demonstrated over and over and over again that the original bill of ights would fail in a plebiscite today.

I dont know who is more of an idiot Ann(Coulter) the hate monger or Joe the plummer?

BC's picture

on your definition of idiot.
Mann Coulter is an idiot in terms of ideology, but quite smart in drawing attention to herself and selling books.
Joe the plummer is an idiot in terms of ideology too, but doesn't sell many books or get large fees.

Somebody actually had the balls to call Joe/Sam out and tell him it's time to STFU!

NMRon's picture

Oh! Snap! HAhahahahahahahahaha

Maggotpunk's picture

Maybe Sam/Joe and his fellow America haters would feel better in one of those countries with no freedom of the press. Naturally he'd be given a job as a figurehead where he just parrots the ideas of the dictator as if it were news. I'd bet he'd even be given his own toilet paper made out of the American flag so he can express just how much he loves the freedoms he takes for granted.

Rick Sanchez is such a brave, brave "journalist". No doubt, in the coming months and years, as more and more details of illegal Bush/Cheney actions are revealed, there will be pushback by Republicans against the reporters who break the stories. We have seen it before and we will see it again. The Michelle Malkins, Rush Limbaughs, and Michele Bachmanns will clutch their pearls and call for the NYT to be tried for treason.

I have utter confidence that Rick Sanchez will have the cojones to call them out as he does Joe the Nobody. After all, he is on a first name basis with Fidel.

Joe the Plumber is the Forest Gump of the GOP.

No,

Forest was sweet and honest. Challenged a tad in the gray matter but not threatening at all.

Joe/Sam is obnoxious, threatening, stupid, and just plain mean.

When the emotion (albeit deserved) becomes the story, the truth that he spoke is diminished, in my opinion.

MDave's picture

given the weight of the journalist mortality figures Sanchez presented, and the glaring idiocy of what Wurzelbacher "reported," I think the vitriol was totally deserved, and Sanchez's message was on the mark.

He came into the clinic where I worked today. His wife needed a finger splint and wanted it without an appointment. Self diagnosing. "Joe the plumber" types are great at self diagnosing and diagnosing the wife. And then....when you tell them I don't think you're going to be able to get the splint without a diagnosis "Joe" said, "What is this world coming to when you can't get a splint?" When it's not the right size or does damage "Joe" will say, the doctor screwed up.

Yeah...those guys are everywhere.

Rick Sanchez agrees with Joe the pinhead retard that a "flat tax" is a "remarkable" idea?

Please tell me how a flat tax is fair - I don't know much about it...but if Dickhead Hannity and Neil Boortz is for it something tells me it's a scam that favors the rich.

General Jack D. Ripper's picture

This was frgn' great! Someone in the news media needed to call this Joe the Jerk out, and Sanchez did just that!

Let's see more and more of this! My opinion of Rick Sanchez now has changed for the better!!!!!!!

I had passed off Sanchez as a right wing toadie not worth watching but i did enjoy that. Perhaps he can be redeemed. I cant handle John "JD"

Other than that, Rick was spot on. Obama may have introduced us to him, as the conservatives will argue, but it was McCain/Palin that drilled him into our vernacular.

Sam's just a Reporter-Idol wannabe.

By the way, considering she hate fake journalism like anonymous bloggers, I wonder what Palin would say about Joe now!

thismachinekillsfascists's picture

No Obama didn't introduce Joe to us. Remember he showed up at Obama's rally to debate him on his proposed tax cuts. The MEDIA labelled him as an "Obama supporter" but I really think that he was McCain's plant. Notice how quickly he jumped on his bandwagon?

No, Joe is sadly becoming the punch line to the decimation that McCain and Palin properly deserved on Nov 4th.

prius04's picture

Joe thinks that it's best that the people look the other way when it's government wants to wage war, or, I suspect, commit other horrors.

But Joe missed the talking point. It's only when REPUBLICAN governments want to wage war. In fact, when Republican governments want to do anything, it's best for the media and the people to be blind to what happens.

But the opposite is true when it's a Democratic government!!!

Joe missed the memo!!! Joe's head is going to explode next week when he finds out the rules have changed.

Joe the Plumber is reporting for Associated Press? You just can't make this stuff up.

living-abomination's picture

So you concur then.

Amen.

Rick Sanchez was BORN in 1958 (i.e. USA-owned) Cuba.

Less than two years later, his parents took him to Hialeah and he grew up there.

There was no media censorship at the time Rick lived in Cuba, nor would he have had any experience whatsoever of it, had there been any.

Why can’t you just say, “Rick Sanchez, RAISED in the USA AND employed by CNN (or ANY other major media platform there) for some time now, KNOWS EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT MEDIA CENSORSHIP.

Its pathetic, you know, the sense of delusion that oozes from anywhere an “Amurican” behaves as such.

So, now Rick is a hero because he's taking on some poor piece of ignorant reporter wannabe republic right wing homunculus? Give me a break!

And neither is nor ever was a journalist.

Im geniunely surprised it took this long before a real journalist told Puff the Magic Plumber to suck it.

Anyone else getting a bit sick of all the Olberman-esque rants happening recently? I mean, with Campbell Brown and now Rick Sanchez starting having their own "special comments", I would prefer that they took Rachael Maddow's lead and have more informed reporting rather than outrage. Although, after 8 years of Dubya, It makes me wish they had found their anger earlier.

Sanchez though? He's a bit pompous, I don't really expect much out of him.

klunk's picture

there was nothing caustic or abusive in sanchez' remarks... and compared to the crap that joe schmoe and the rethugs have been spewing which even then can be considered mild compared to the downright rude and ignorant commentary by coulter or limbaugh or hannity or oreilly or much of the religious reich, he was practically behaving like a brit with effusive but firm politeness...

he stayed on point and stuck to the facts... if you think his remarks constitute vitriol, how do you regard the examples i cited....?... are you a shrinking violet and suffer a quivering numbness when they speak or are you setting up a double-standard...?... because, if his comments are vitriol, i'd be quite pleased to see more of it and particularly if the reichtards could stick to such a standard of "vitriol"...

We can thank John McCain for giving Joe the Idiot a launching platform, and of course whatever conservative idiots are continuing his 15 minutes of fame. After all, who's paying this guy's bills? I couldn't afford to quite my job and buy a ticket to Israel. This is just another example of right wing lunacy at its best, or maybe I should say worst. Obviously, whoever is funding Joe must be doing so because there's something in it for them. i applaud him for putting "Joe" in his place, but starting out with statistics of dead journalists is a terrible argument. If I were "Joe", the first thing I'd be thinking is "See!
