I just love Alan Grayson - and I especially love the names for his proposed bills, and I can't wait to hear why the Republicans won't support them:

Anticipating a Supreme Court decision that could free corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on political campaigns, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) introduced five bills on Wednesday to choke off the expected flood of corporate cash.

"We are facing a potential threat to our democracy," Grayson said in an interview with HuffPost. "Unlimited corporate spending on campaigns means the government is up for sale and that the law itself will be bought and sold. It would be political bribery on the largest scale imaginable."

At issue in the Supreme Court case is whether the government can limit corporate spending during presidential and congressional campaigns. The case is pitting Citizens United, a conservative group, against the Federal Election Commission. The FEC banned ads for Citizens United's film bashing Hillary Clinton during the 2008 election season.

Grayson introduced a handful of bills on Wednesday -- the Business Should Mind Its Own Business Act, the Corporate Propaganda Sunshine Act, the End Political Kickbacks Act, and two other measures.

It could be worse.

I was trying to come up with an acronym to spell that too.

But I might change yours to Supreme Court Ripping Off The United Masses.

just about a lone wolf politician in a room full of idiot, bribed politicians! He's right up there with Kucinich in my books! I love these two guys who have the balls to speak truth to "power" or at least speak truth to the fucktards in corporate power.

Where the hell is Feingold?!

Way to go Rep. Alan Grayson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep slamming the truth down the lying wingnuts throats!

I really despise the fact that the amount of free speech one has is based on the size of ones bank account. Doesn't that fly in the face of what the Founders wanted?

Not really, they restricted the voting franchise to citizens with property.

I've never heard how much was required though.

At the same time they had Freedom of Speech and Press, but since the latter was considered property as well, only the former would be of practical use to one who could not vote, although there's a possibility they could get something printed in the press, for which one could face retribution formerly from King George III.

How do you explain his vote to condemn the Goldstone Report?

Symes's picture

Like most Americans he is an Israel sycophant.

It's a cultural thing, generational guilt for taking so long to help stop the Nazi's.

jbarret1's picture

Let me get this straight: because of Israel's past history of Nazi genocide, our government excuses them when they commit ethnic cleansing and war crimes against the Palestinians?

chervilant's picture

Aren't we just the clever ones, we humans?!

The vast majority of people in this nation seem angry, bigoted, sad, depressed, or worse. Most are completely disinterested in politics, leaving all of us vulnerable to the whims of the corporatists who've usurped our government. Puerile stories about shallow celebrities dominate the 'news' and we just lap it up!

I did an impromtu survey at a school a few weeks ago. Not a single person, student OR teacher could tell me who is Alan Grayson.

Sigh...

KWillow's picture

If the Supreme Court announced that corporations are NOT people, and are NOT entitled to the rights of individual Americans, so there!

I wish.

That the SCOTUS will look to F@*K US!
It's what they were appointed by Republican President's to do.
You'd better hope that Justice Thomas is pleased enough when he leaves a pubic hair on our soda can, and not on our lips when we have to 'suck on his opinion..' Which will suck. Because he is the absolutley WORST F@#KING Supreme Court Jusice in our lifetime. Maybe in the whole history of this country. This f**king "justice" hasn't even asked ONE STUPID, MFing QUESTION IN ALMOST 4 YEARS!!!!!
Not one! Not, to my knowledge, "Hey, Supreme Court Bro, is it time for lunch yet?" Not even, "Hey, who stole my copy of "JUGG's?"
Did he even ask his wife... Oh, never mind.............
Thomas isn't the dimmest light on Broadway. He's a unlit match on the Lower East Side!

Centrist Sam's picture

Cund Gulag,
Your last post is a joke. If you think Thomas was the worst, then review your SCOTUS history. That means you think he's worst than the justices who upheld Dred Scott v. Sanford (declaring that blacks were not citizens of the U.S.) and you think he's worse than the justices in Plessy v. Ferguson (upholding segregation based on separate but equal accomodations).

Oh and by the way, for all the whining about the 'conservative, Republican-appointed Court', they SAVED ABORTION RIGHTS! Haven't you heard of Planned Parenthood of SE Pennslyvania v. Casey? Justices O'Connor, Kennedy, and Souter all saved Roe v. Wade, despite being conservative, Republican appointed judges. Those of us who support a woman's right to choose owe them a lot and I'm tired of all the Supreme Court bashing done by ignorant and ill-informed liberals.

RickBeagle's picture

The previous poster is not a liberal, he is a racist. While racism is certainly an equal opportunity offense, conservatism seems to breed it far more readily than a liberal mindset.

In other words, he is a conservative troll on this website.... Now you know (queue music).

Peace.
Rick Beagle

Centrist Sam's picture

How can I be a racist? Those Supreme Court decisions (Dred Scott and Plessy) represented the worst of America. My point was that Clarence Thomas is an exalted king compared to the justices who decided in the previous cases.

You are a typical liberal who screams racist at the mention of anything to do with race. How can I be a conservative racist and still be pro-choice? Rick Beagle, your last name fits you since you are not an smarter than a beagle.

Symes's picture

... a duped ideologue who can only unthinkingly spew forth his supplied talking points.

I don't think you are a racist.
I think you are a plant. One that needs water.

The centrist thing in you moniker fools no one.

Worst is a relative term.

Is it worse because of some of the decisions he was involved in

Or worse because of his lack of credentials

Or lack of involvement in the case before him?

The stupid, stupid, stupid Democrats are going to lose to the even dumber (if it is possible) right wing Thug populists in the 2010 elections. And the irony is that they have a headliner that can match Limbpuke and his crowd item for item--Congressman Grayson. They all need to start marching behind this guy. He is their way, truth and light.

Candideinnc

I think that we should start a movement to take away corporation rights. They should not have the same rights as people.

the capitalists control the following:

congress

white house

supreme court

most of the wealth

the industrial military complex

the media

the chamber of commerce

the labor force

the borders for cheap labor

the banks

wall street

the health insurance companies

patroitism and nationalism agenda

wars for profits

global economy

the university system with gov grants

the educational system

the list is long

while a dumbed downed country slept the capitalist have smiled all the way to their banks

check history this the same old story where one percent has more wealth than the bottom 95%

why is this? the bottom 95% lack the intelligence to stop the capitalists and fail to see the hidden aspects of on going greed were enough wealth is never enough.

happy new year

oh this is just a recession not a change of wealth from the many to the few.

dont expect media to tell you these things. most dont have a clue the media is part of the capitalist system.

I really get tired of that crap. Stop with the scapegoating. You're here aren't you? Why? Because you've got nothing better to do? Maybe. But maybe you're in search of the truth and this blog and many others that you follow are doing just that — giving some truth to the crap that passes as "news". The internet is everywhere. If someone is "dumbed down" that's because they CHOOSE to be that way. And they CHOOSE to be bigoted and racist and a whole list of other negatives. AND, they can choose to NOT be those things.

Read the link from a 22-year old man in Orlando, FL. It appeared in today's Orlando Sentinel. I think he just about gets it right.

"The real battle in Washington is seldom between conservatives and liberals or the right and the left or “red America” and “blue America.” It is nearly always a more local contest, over which politicians will enjoy the privilege of representing the interests of the rich."

Ever notice how everyday C & L's has dozens of GOP nutjobs spewing bullshit out of both sides of their mouth's in congress.

But Grayson seems to be the only one on our side who is ever seen speaking for the common man?

Where is the rest of the democratic party? On their knees blowing Wall Street with Rahm and the leadership?

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

the law itself will be bought and sold"

that pretty much sums up the current environment... all this decision will do is make it openly legal and transparent... and the corporate elite and their political slaves will no longer have to act like that's not the case...

of course that will mean (eventual) civil unrest, insurrection, and government upheaval - but then, that was the point of all the 'homeland security' initiatives - not to protect us from terrorists, but to protect the corporate elite and the political class from the other 99%...

Before everyone goes overboard with praise for Grayson, be mindful he voted for the resolution to condemn the Goldstone Report. So did Feingold.

Alan Grayson is a tall drink of ice cold lemonade on a hot summer day.
Corporate Personhood is and has been the biggest problem this country has.

stanleycustom's picture

And the problem with corporations and UNIONS being allowed to place ads is what? I don't see any problem with either of them spending what their shareholders or members are willing to spend. For that matter if you want to spend a years worth of your lunch money, and it exceeds the current spending caps, go for it, no matter how much it is. A lobbyist is just a representitive of a particular group, for example organic farmers or those attempting to go to green energy. Are they to be excluded. Think rationally not emotionaly.
