Another 'Scoop' From the Right! Wingnuts Quote Satire Piece As Obama 'Thesis'

Right-wing pundit Michael Ledeen published an item this week on Barack Obama's "college thesis," which Obama allegedly wrote as a student at Columbia 25 years ago. Leeden cited some website, which ran a piece in August.
The paper was called "Aristocracy Reborn," and in the first ten pages (which were all that reporter Joe Klein -- who wrote about it for Time -- was permitted to see), the young Obama wrote:
"... the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy."
That's quite an indictment, even for an Ivy League undergraduate.... Maybe instead of fuming about words that Rush Limbaugh never uttered, the paladins of the free press might ask the president about words that he did write.
Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh picked up on Leeden's report, blasting Obama for the alleged paper.
The first sign of trouble was when Joe Klein noted that he's never seen or written about Obama's college thesis, and has "no idea where this report comes from."
The second sign of trouble was when one stopped to notice that Obama didn't write a senior thesis (though he did write a thesis-length paper on Soviet nuclear disarmament).
The third sign of trouble was when one clicked on the link that Leeden provided as support and found the word "satire."
Yes, Leeden and Limbaugh got all worked up, trashing the president for a paper he didn't write in college 25 years ago, relying on a satirical blog post. And for real entertainment value, notice what Leeden and Limbaugh did when they realized they'd fallen for a dumb joke -- they blamed Obama anyway.
Leeden conceded he was wrong and apologized, but added, "It worked because it's plausible." Limbaugh said the text he touted was fake, but it didn't matter because, "I know Obama thinks it." Yep, even when they're wrong, it's only because the president makes it easy for them to be confused.

it was plausible that George W Bush blew off his military commitments while in the Air National Guard, but that didn't matter when Dan Rather reported on an article that 'had the wrong font' on it. Rather was duped and at least took responsibility, but that takes balls and Limbaugh has none.

Especially given that CNN felt compelled to fact-check a SNL skit, but absolutely no fact-checking on two outrageous quotes that their bullshit meter should've gone up right away on. Sanchez hates Limbaugh. It showed in his reporting. That's not supposed to happen.

Dan Rather never ran with a story that was an obvious joke as the "Obama Thesis" that came from a clearly marked satirical site.
And what has never been determined is whether boosh was ever present at the Alabama base between May of 1972 and May of 1973. Rewards have even been offered for proof one way or another, and no one has come forward, and the story became more about Rather, than boosh's alleged dereliction of duty.

Actually the funny thing is the constitution did NOT set up any particular economic model.
Article one gave the House of Representatives the power to tax, control tariffs, coin money and punish counterfeiters and pirates (their terrorists). But nothing about capitalism.
Although it's clear the document was designed to help protect property, and that would include some rights of buying a selling.

I remember how incensed the Repug media propagandists were when George Bush was said to have skipped out on required military time when he switched from Texas to Alabama. Despite having great difficulty finding credible witnesses to support Bush's claim to have reported , Limbaugh and others made haste to state that they just believed Bush and that criticism was unfair. Now,these same men say without hesitation that it's fair to believe/accuse Obama of misdeeds even when the proof document was satire. They are a shameless lot without the slightest sense of credibility among rational Americans.

Not even close! Ledeen had his post up on his blog for two days, but it wasn't picked up by anyone. That's where I came in. I'm the guy who read the Ledeen's post, and made my own comments about it at American Thinker's blog. That's where Limbaugh got it. Klein noting anything wasn't the first sign of anything. In less than an hour after posting the piece, in the comments at AT I was stating that I believed the story was false and that was even before I found out Ledeen had gotten it from a satire. Within minutes of his talking about the story on the radio as being true, Limbaugh also found out it was satire mistakenly taken seriously, and stated:
"So I shout from the mountaintops: 'It was satire!' But we know he thinks it. Good comedy, to be comedy, must contain an element of truth, and we know how he feels about distribution of wealth. He's mad at the courts for not going far enough on it. So we stand by the fabricated quote because we know Obama thinks it anyway. That's how it works in the media today."
You apparently missed that his "because we know Obama thinks it anyway" was itself Limbaugh's satire of how many treated the bogus quotes attributed to him, e.g., see Rick Sanchez! Gosh, you took satire seriously! Full quote of Limbaugh's in context is here:
