Deja Vu! Fort Bragg Event Targets Soldiers And Children For Conversion To Christianity
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation just stopped a similar event with Graham in April. Sounds like someone's hoping to force the issue again:
An evangelistic rally jointly sponsored by U.S. military personnel and evangelical Christian churches and ministries violates the U.S. Constitution and must be cancelled, says Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
The “Rock the Fort” event at Fort Bragg this weekend targets both military personnel and adults and children in the surrounding community for conversion to Christianity. This clearly violates the separation of church and state, attorneys with Americans United informed Army officials in in a letter today.
“It’s not the Army’s job to convert Americans to Christianity,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United. “This event is totally unacceptable and must be canceled.
“It is particularly shocking that the military would join forces with Franklin Graham,” Lynn continued. “Graham has expressed utter contempt for Islam, Hinduism and other faiths. When our military joins hands with him, it sends exactly the wrong message to the world. Our military defends a nation that includes people of many different faiths and some who follow no faith at all.”
“Rock the Fort” is being sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) in conjunction with Fort Bragg chaplains and local churches. The current CEO of the Graham Association is Franklin Graham.
In addition to evangelizing soldiers, officials at Fort Bragg have invited members of the surrounding community to attend the Sept. 25 event, which will feature Christian music and sermonizing. Special emphasis will be placed on evangelizing children.

My husband retired from the military in 95. He was a chaplain's assistant. That is where he works for a chaplain and sets up the service on sunday's or special events. My husband was shocked to hear about this situation. He was a senior nco and would never allow anyone to come to the chaplain's office and try to impose their will on soldiers. He wouldn't allow it without strong talking with the senior chaplain and letting him know that what they are doing is against the law. My husband knows allot about the different services because he had to know how to set their altars up.

That article states that a direct precedence has not been determined connecting "separation of church and state" with the Establishment Clause.

The Americans United for Separation of Church and State article did not even say what part of the Constitution would be violated. They only suggested that it would also saying “It’s not the Army’s job to convert Americans to Christianity,” but the event itinerary makes no mention of conversions.
Besides the Establishment Clause of Amendment I, there is Article I, Sec 8, cls. 14 and 16, as well as Article VI, ¶ 2 and 3.

Just because a person is homosexual or belongs to any other opposing group and feels threatened by Christianity does not make it right to pull out the fully automatic label gun. Liberals really need to look hard in the mirror on this one. "under god" "in god we trust" "god bless america" etc...these sort of phrases and laws made by congress provide the exact type of environment (where patriotism = christianity) that allows this sort of religious extremism to thrive.
Bottom line is that the extreme religionists on the right depend on liberal cowardice. Liberals who aren't fighting for the absolute separation of church and state are only helping the religious right get more power and judicial authority.
