See, here's the thing. This is exactly the sort of thing for which Obama should be expending political capital. He should go on TV, explain why the Republican tax cuts won't work, and ask people to contact their representatives and insist that they support his plan.
That's what leadership is.

says he's afraid the (R) will try to downsize and delay the stimulus. who's side are they on anyways. if the stimulus is NOT relatively quickly approved and big enough we could be in this for many years...ie. japan
Paul Krugman the only economist that thinks massive spending is the cure? I never hear any other economists in the media agreeing with this.
Something SERIOUSLY does have to be done, but I think this is wrong, wrong, wrong. Without balancing the massive spending with massive cuts, this is just going to be one giant clusterf*ck of pork barrel spending like nobody has ever seen. Regardless of the intentions. These are politicians. They don't do what's right.
You cannot spend massive amounts of money without getting something back equal in value. What is this going to give you? Roads? Computerized health records? A "green" industry that nobody has a clue what is included? I have a terrible sinking feeling about this.

Someone please explain how or why that is a good solution? Krugman hasn't and neither has Obama, any Dem, or any Rep (who also embraced the bailout).
The FED's own charts dating back to it's inception in 1913 say we have jumped off a cliff to a whole new level of stupidity see for yourself.

Look long and hard at that monetary base chart ask yourself is that a solution or another can of worms? It's not that hard.
Obama explained the package so well a 5th grader could understand so you have to ask by Democrats and Republicans are fighting it. After 8 years of Both Republican/Democrat Law Makers stealing from the taxpayers it's now black mail time. To keep the Bush mission going Democratic Law Makers like Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein and Harry Reid have to do as their told or their crimes will become public. Now the GOP was smart to give black mail money to Democrats just in case they decided to work for the American people. Republicans/Democrats will block any plan to help the taxpayers but at lease they got their big raise in salary. Obama is working without pay since he's not a Senator or President but Americans still will impeachment him if he doesn't fix the mess Bush/Cheney made. Now Americans are paying Bush/Cheney for doing nothing and even allowing them to get away with making this mess. In about 3 months Americans will impeach Obama/Biden and ask Bush/Cheney to come back to finish the job of completely destroying the United States of America. Since the Middle East and China are still very rich who knows they just might buy the USA. Watch Israel act like they never heard of the US when we got completely broke as we're only good for them to use. Think of it you country will be controlled by a Foreign Leaders and Americans plus the KKK Republican Party will have to deal with it.

it is not in the interest of the republicans for Obama to be a successful president. Think about it, if Obama turns out to be a great pres. the GOP will be toast come 2010, never mind 2012.
So one doesn't have to be too naive to figure out that the GOP will do everything in their power to undermine Obama's presidency. I expect to see full blown hostilities the time Obama is sworn in. Of course they know that the media will not report on their uncooperative behavior, so the Dems... who seem to be so fucking dumb to realize it, will be blamed for the possible clusterf*ck that awaits us if urgent legislation is not passed.
I an understand Obama's triangulation of throwing some meat to attract support of the moderate GOPers. However, I think he fails to fully understand the concept that these people will never put country before party, ever. And thus I am afraid he has gone too far in throwing the liberal based under the bus in order to please the moderates... time will tell though. I do hope I am wrong, although I am tired of the likes of me being the perennial sacrificial lamb.

If you are not rich, they want you to be the sucker to pay for it.
For the Rethugs to approve it, the bulk of the stimulus would be given to the rich so that it could 'trickle down'.

OK, here's MY experience. I never GOT a "stimulus" check on the LAST go-round. WHY? Because my accountant wrote my wife's social security number incorrectly on our tax return. He wrote a "6" instead of an "8". We corrected the error, but it didn't matter. For this, the Fucking IRS REFUSES to send us so much as a nickel. We are barely able to survive as it is, but our wonderful government has effectively screwed me out of a measly $1200, while giving hundreds of billions to their buddies without even any oversight.
They can take their "stimulus" and shove it up their asses.
from all the "accounting" they've shown, this stimulus will mean a smaller cheque that you might not receive. How did that work under Bush? Why are they doing it again?

What American would work for not salary? All the comments are interesting but Obama isn't getting a pay check while working on this recovery plan for the American people. The Law Makers got a big raise in their salary and are doing nothing but blocking everythng expect they will allow the Porn Industry to get a bailout. Some people were right Obama should sit back and let the hold Country fail and leave it to Republicans to finish off the US. Attacking Obama is easy it seems while hailing Bush as the one who got us in this mess. But Americans see no problem paying Bush and Cheney for doing nothing while they wait for Jan. 20th.
A man/woman/child need food and shelter so Americans sit and wait for Jan. 20th but can we last that long or will some die before that date. Here's a man name Obama who says he wants to start now to help those people not wait but the same people talk about him like a dog.
