Howie: The first time I met Ned Lamont he hadn't declared his candidacy yet and we wound up talking about music instead instead of politics. Eventually, I even wrote a piece about what kind of music he likes. When he eventually did declare that he would be running for the U.S. Senate, he underlined his steely determination by giving a rousing speech and following it up with a tape of a song he loves, Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down."
