Last July here at the Music Club we listened to "Fade Away" from the debut album by Wisconsin's BoDeans. I love the song but it was never really a hit. When "Closer To Free" came out on their 1993 album, Go Slow Down, no one thought it would be a hit either, just another great unrecognized Bodeans song like "Fade Away." But then some Hollywood majic happened. "Closer to Free" wound up as the opening song on a lame Disney film, Heavyweights starring Ben Stiller, and, more importantly, as the theme song for the TV series Party of Five. The song turned into a hit and the band's career took off.
