It was pretty upsetting to hear that The Mars Volta broke up earlier this year, but, fortunately, the founding members have started an entirely new band.

Just when it had seemed that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala might have gone their separate ways, they come right back with something original. It sounds like something that bridges the gap between their first band together, At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta. Also, like in the early days of The Mars Volta, they've got Flea playing bass, which is pretty exciting. I'm really interested to see what direction they'll go in with the new band and how the sound will evolve as they start more new projects.

Got any favorite songwriting teams?
