A Southern Baptist deacon has, after a struggle to reconcile his faith with decency, finally come to terms with the fact that his son is gay. “I have to admit,” he said to a crowd of gay men and supporters, “five years ago I would never be standing here. You have to realize something–and please don’t throw anything–that I am a Deacon in a Southern Baptist church and I love Jesus. And I’ve had a lot to struggle with over the last five years.”
