Elizabeth Warren Laughs At Bob Schieffer After Being Called 'A Socialist'
Senator Elizabeth Warren had a funny reaction to Bob Schieffer on Face The Nation after he said her critics called her a "socialist."
Anytime conservatives are afraid of a Democratic politician or analyst they immediately label them as either a communist or a socialist. In president Obama's case, the National Journal ran a story after he began running for the Democratic presidential nominee that he was the most liberal senator in Congress, which was patently false. And his record backs that up as president so when Bob Schieffer remarked that her critics called her a "socialist," she laughed out loud before explaining her positions clearly.
SEN. WARREN: Take a look at the House if you want to see what happens when Republicans take over. What are they on now, is this their fiftieth vote to repeal Obamacare? That's not how you run a country. We have real issues we need to deal with. Minimum wage, student loan debt, equal pay for equal work, a little accountability for the big financial institutions.
BOB SCHIEFFER: You know, your fans say you're a populist, but your critics say you're just basically a socialist.
SEN. WARREN: (LAUGHS) I just don't know where they get that. You know, look at the issues. I mean this, really.
Let's take a look at them. Minimum wage? I just believe nobody should work full time and live in poverty. And you know what? Most of America agrees. Student loans, I don't think the U.S. government should be making tens of billions of dollars in profits off the backs of our students, which is what the current student loan system is doing. And I think most Americans agree with me on that.
It's common knowledge that Warren was in fact a republican until the late 90's, but you know, if she's appealing to the working class of America and its youth then she can't be a populist and she's got to smeared as a socialist.
I know they are trying to figure out a way to make her into being a Muslim, born in Kenya with no birth certificate, but they are still working on it.
