If you live in the beautiful district of CA-33, please do not vote today for the lying liar Matt Miller, who didn't make it known that he was a lobbyist or attack ad specialist Wendy Greuel. They would be horrible choices to represent this very progressive district. We at Blue America made a duel endorsement for Ted Lieu and Marianne Williamson.
Rarely does a district get even one candidate running for Congress as stellar as either state Senator Ted Lieu or inspirational author Marianne Williamson, let alone two. Why can't my district-- right next door-- have someone good running for Congress?
Marianne's charisma and ability to communicate to people who politicians usually can't reach, is very powerful and very much needed by the progressive movement. Ted's ability to see a problem and figure out how to address it legislatively and politically is a more traditional, but no less consequential, way of looking at a candidate's qualifications. Put those traits together and you have… well, Alan Grayson or Elizabeth Warren.
If you live in California, hopefully you know how the voting system has changed:
When California’s returns—which often come in very slowly—begin to be reported tomorrow, it will be important to understand the state’s Top Two primary system, in which all candidates regardless of partisan identification run on the same primary ballot with the Top Two candidates—regardless of party or percentage of the vote—going on to the general election in November. The system is different from Louisiana’s “jungle primary” insofar as 50% of the vote doesn’t earn a candidate a pass from a second electoral contest. It was instituted via a 2010 ballot initiative, but has only been used in 2012.
If you live outside my district, here are a few names that you know will fight to protect Social Security for all.
In tomorrow's primaries, the Democrats in House races most committed and best equipped to never surrender to the corporatists on Social Security are:
• IA-01- Pat Murphy
• NJ-12- Bonnie Watson Coleman
• NJ-02- Dave Cole
• CA-17- Mike Honda
• CA-25- Lee Rogers
• CA-31- Eloise Reyes
• CA-33- Ted Lieu and Marianne Williamson
