During Fox News' "Mediabuzz," there was a discussion about Friday's document dump of the House Intelligence Committee's two year investigation into Benghazi, which found that all the lame brain complaints and conspiracy theories conservatives whipped up over it to smear Hillary Clinton and Obama were bogus: House Panel Finds 'No Intelligence Failure' Before Benghazi Attack You would think this would be the top story right behind Obama's executive orders on immigration, but instead it's been buried. Howard Kurtz wondered why the media wasn't covering a story as big as it's supposed to be?
Kurtz: The House Intelligence committee Friday issued its result of a two year investigation of Benghazi and among other things the committee, which is controlled by Republicans says there was no intelligence failure, no stand down orders, there was no coverup by administration officials, at least not intending to deceive. A couple of brief items on Fox, nothing on the network newscast, a little bit in the newspapers. Given all the attention that Benghazi has gotten, including on this network, should that have gotten more coverage?
If the committee had found significant damning information against the administration, they would have held a press conference on Monday morning to parade the report around and the media would have gone ballistic, but since it was a total waste of time and resources, they dumped it.
Joe Trippi agreed in his usual subdued manner, while Amy Holmes of The Blaze gave the most laughable excuse of the day on why the media was silent on this report.
Kurtz:..if the report had been critical of the administration, it would be all over the headlines, right?
Holmes: I'm not so sure. I think Benghazi, a long time ago was deemed by the main stream media as just a right wing obsession...so I think this news story fit in with hand and glove...Republicans are learning from the White House that that kind of information goes out on a Friday.
Kurtz: It's fine to criticize the report as opposed to not covering it...
Say what? Amy, please try to at least make sense. If the MSM thought Benghazi was a right-wing obsession, which it was, then why not pounce on it to hammer it home? And as every person who's ever bothered to read a political book knows, all presidential administrations use Fridays as a document dump day. Sharyl Attkisson made believe she never got into hot water over her Benghazi reporting at all.
Kurtz wrapped it up with the proper perspective.
Kurtz: that GOP House led investigation into Benghazi should have received much more coverage than it did. "it was a two year investigation, I think it deserved news coverage on all networks."
Does the report need to contain inflammatory information to be covered by the networks because of ratings? Oh, wait. If it was George Bush in the crosshairs over Benghazi, then these revelations would have been earth shattering.
