President Obama gave a press conference today to discuss the results after the trouncing the Democratic party took after the midterm elections. Most people believe the GOP will work to pass trade agreements and tax reform with the administration, but I can imagine the Republicans immediately passing bills for the XL pipeline and drilling for oil in ANWR (House already passed a bill to just that in 2012) just to piss off liberals so Obama needs to whip out his veto pen just as quickly.
Obama: Still, as president, I have a unique responsibility to try and make this town work. So, to everyone who voted, I want you to know that I hear you. To the two-thirds of voters who chose not to participate in the process yesterday, I hear you, too.
Most of the gains yesterday were picked up in an election that heavily favored red state Republicans.
Obama: Our economy is outpacing most of the world, but we just gotta keep at it until every American feels the gains of a growing economy where it matters most. and that's in their own lives.
I'm eager to work with the new Congress in the nest two years as productive as possible I'm committed to making sure that I measure ideas, not by whether they are from Democrats or Republicans , but whether they work. for the American people. And that's not to say that we won't disagree over issues that we are passionate about, we will. Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign. I’m pretty sure I’ll take some actions that some in Congress will not like. That's natural, that's how our democracy works. But we can surely find ways to work together on issues where there’s broad agreement among the American people
We can only hope that President Obama has a hell of a lot of pens because Republicans are going to try and make believe they can govern by passing as many destructive and conservative bills as possible, including building a trillion dollar fence around our entire southern border.
And he also has to stand tough against the backlash of the beltway media elites, who will support the conservatives and actually veto all the destructive measures that come out of a Republican controlled Congress.
