A Texas gun enthusiast has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed his wife during an argument over the weekend.

KTRK reported that 24-year-old Martin Gaytan called the Harris County Sheriff's Office on Sunday morning and admitted that he fatally shot his wife.

He told investigators that the two were having an argument when Monica Gaytan pointed a gun at him. He said that he took the gun away from her and shot her several times.

According to KPRC, Gaytan told 911 dispatchers that he shot his wife in self defense. He was charged with murder after being interviewed by investigators on Sunday.

Monica Gaytan was pronounced dead at the scene. The two had been married for about a year, and had a child who was around 5 years old, deputies said.

The Inquisitor pointed out that Gaytan often bragged about guns on his Facebook page.

“Yep each pull of the trigger throws out 1 41 caliber ftx slug and 2 35 caliber bearings so can’t miss ha ha. Yup can’t go wrong there," he wrote in one message.

In Facebook posts obtained by Freak Out Nation, Gaytan suggested that guns were necessary for "protection" from foreign and domestic governments, home defense, to fight "muggers and rapists," and because "it's my right."
