Betsy Rothstein's first mistake was to pay any attention to something the insane Charles C Johnson "broke" as some kind of news. Johnson is the "blogger" -- and I use the term very loosely here -- who routinely lies with insane abandon on Twitter while digging into people's personal records to see who he can "out" for something or another on any given day.
Washington Post writer Wesley Lowery is the latest target of Johnson's delusions. Lowery has been one of the most visible writers on the Ferguson protests since they began, and recently had a bit of a dustup with Politico, declaring them unfriendly to black people. Which they are.
Enter Betsy Rothstein, the Daily Caller's crack reporter. She is ON IT, with an in-depth investigation into whether or not Lowery is really a black guy or....something else.
Because the ticket record that Johnson dug up says so, and we all know police records are always right.
As any crack(ed) investigative reporter would do, Rothstein headed over to Lowery's Facebook page to creep on his family. Lo and behold, she discovered something no one ever knew before, mainly because no one really cares. Yes, that's right.
I've snarked my way through this but it's really far more disgusting than I've let on. Think about the idea of trying to impeach a black reporter's work by using a speeding ticket and a Facebook page to suggest he's not black enough. The lunatic Charles C. Johnson is actually quoted in the Rothstein article trolling Lowery for being a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, because he's just not black enough.
Dave Weigel reports on how this troll backlash has silenced some reporters:
All the while, Johnson was looking for the criminal records of mainstream media reporters who’d covered the Ferguson story. He reported that the Post’s Lowery had a (paid) speeding ticket and had not updated his driver’s license -- this or any encounter with the police might bias the journalists expected to cover Ferguson. Johnson solemnly swore to continue to “take down” journalists.
Here's a few gems from Mr. Insanity himself:
And of course, it's all about the money, honey. In addition to being insane, Johnson is another conservative grifter:
Just based on that, it would have been far wiser for Betsy Rothstein to spend her time counting the grains of sand in an hourglass or something. Instead, she elevated his racism and rank stupidity (as well as the Daily Caller's).
To lunatics like Rothstein and Johnson, freedom of speech is something only conservatives should have a right to. Blacks, women, and liberals needn't apply.
