This tune was chosen for the soundtrack to Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, which has been out for just a few months now. Being set in the early '90s, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number's soundtrack was hand-picked by the game's creators to fit that aesthetic. As you can hear, Carpenter Brut fits that aesthetic pretty darn well. It's difficult to capture that sound as a decade ends and another one begins, with the new one still latching on to some musical trends of its predecessor, but Carpenter Brut does a good job of that without leaning too far in either direction. For that, Carpenter Brut, we salute you!

Know any music from early in one decade that couldn't quite shake the musical trends of the one before it?
