Awkward Moment At Miss Universe Pageant When Wrong Winner Announced
December 20, 2015

I haven't watched beauty pageants since I was a little girl, but I know how much work goes into winning one. Like anything else, it's a huge investment of time, effort, and ego.

This moment has to be one of the most awkward I've ever watched on television in any venue, bar none.

Via Oliver Willis:

Instead of naming the actual winner, Harvey announced that Miss Colombia (Andrea Tovar) had won the pageant. In reality, Miss Philippines (Pia Wurtzbach) was the winner.

To compound the error, Harvey made a spelling mistake apologizing about the incident on Twitter, writing, “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia. This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”

The audience wasn't having it, either. Harvey had to show the card proving he'd read the wrong contestant.
