What if you get pregnant, your partner has abandoned you, and you happen to live in Missouri where there is ONE clinic which provides abortions? What if you're also financially or geographically unable to exercise that particular option? The Republicans have made sure that you must birth that baby, welcome to single-parenthood! According to GOP Presidential 'hopeful' Rick Santorum, you will be the leading cause of gun violence. You thought things were bleak and hopeless before, now you're carrying the weight of this country's gun violence problem squarely on your expectant shoulders.
On Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski asked Rick Santorum a very important question, which he answered in a rather bizarre fashion. In a moment of clarity, the co-host wanted to dispense with all the Muslim-terrorists-with-a-gun-scenarios and talk about the real problem: the Adam Lanzas, Dylan Roofs and James Holmes White guys who have caused far more death and injury.
MIKA: You look at the data, of white men with guns wreaking havoc on this country. Why aren't you working on White men with guns? I mean, come on Rick Santorum, you know better, you're a smart guy.
SANTORUM: Well thank you for that.
MIKA: Why aren't White men coming forward? Why don't you call on them to do that? I mean come on, you're ringing bells.
It's always refreshing when Mika finds her backbone, but we'd be a helluva lot more impressed if she did that with Joe's man crush, Governor Christie, or Donald Trump during one of his ever-so-important phone-in interviews. Santorum referred to some cockamamie idea that it's the breakdown of the family unit. That's why he's working so hard on fixing that aspect of society's woes. But Mika pressed on.
MIKA: Like being against people on the terror watch list being able to buy a gun?
SANTORUM: If you look at the folks who are causing crime in America...85%-90% of them grew up without a father in the home...You've got a breakdown of society based upon the breakdown of the family... (re: guns) To point to an inanimate object is a ridiculous thing.
He says he's been working on the problem of single-parent households for quite some time now. Perhaps Rick is moonlighting as a marriage and family counselor when he's not pretending to be presidentin' ? It couldn't be the fact that it is infinitely harder to procure abortion services than it is to purchase a deadly firearm, now could it?
Nope. It's those unclean women, those whom the GOP reference as 'sluts,' who have kids out of wedlock and thus cause all of society's woes. This delightful misogyny can only spell one thing for the GOP: Victory! Keep it up Republicans. This sure seems like the winning strategy to get those disenfranchised female voters to come to the GOP's First Order.
