January 29, 2016

I really hope that 2016 isn't the year where the Music Club has to change its name to the In Memoriam room.

After suffering from several heart attacks and other failing health issues over the past year or so original member of the Jefferson Airplane, Paul Kantner, passed away yesterday at the age of 74. Paul formed the Airplane in 1965 and continued to be the foundation of the group through a name change (Jefferson Starship) and many member changes. In 1984, he left the band after becoming disenfranchised about how commercial the band had become and their losing touch with their counter-cultural roots.

While the whole San Francisco sound him and his band were part of launching got a whole peace, love and flowers in your hair image, the Jefferson Airplane actually sounded quite often dark. This song for example from their 3rd album After Bathing At Baxter's (the JeffAir album I've listened to the most throughout the years) is a good example of that.

What are you listening to tonight?
