Smack in the middle of Fox’s comically awful “Meet The Trumps” special, Melania Trump revealed that she already thinks America is great, just the way it is.
It happened during Greta Van Susteren’s slobberfest segment called, “Who is Melania Trump?” As I previously wrote, Van Susteren’s first question told you everything you needed to know about the cheerleading to come: “Here’s the question I’ve wanted to ask you for a long time. How many languages do you speak?”
But at about 3:09, there was this revealing exchange:
VAN SUSTEREN: Is it fun to be an American?
TRUMP: It’s great to be American, yes! I love…
VAN SUSTEREN (interrupting): Did you feel bad about, sort of, you know, leaving, sort of, your former country?
TRUMP: No, I don’t feel bad. This is my life here. I love it here. This is my life and I have my family here and I love it. I love it from the first day I came here and I had a very successful modeling career and then I stayed here.
Wait a minute! If Melania Trump thinks America is already great and has been great for as long as she has lived here, why do we need Donald Trump to "Make America great again?" Any interviewer worth his or her salt would have pressed the issue: Does Melania agree with her husband that America needs to be made great again? If so, in what way(s)?
Of course, to paraphrase the old Saturday Night Live skit, America "has been very, very good" to Melania. And, immigrant that she is, it would have been tough for her to start criticizing it. But her comments do not suggest she has noticed the kind of decline her husband has based his campaign on.
Rather than explore that point, Van Susteren asked, “What magazines have you been on the cover of?”
