Hard to believe it was 20 years ago. And it was a BIG deal, with a lot of people very angry with Ellen for making her sexuality public. There was a lot of "why can't you just be funny and leave your 'perversion' out of our lives?" arguments from people who had to learn to do better. We've come a very long way. Never forget.
