Much discussion on AM Joy this morning about the swirling rumors that top Trump advisors may quit - or be fired. Joy Reid asked David Corn what he thought.

"In your reporting, David, if this cadre of norms were to go -- we'll leave Rex Tillerson aside because he's not doing so great -- if Mattis leaves, who or what would replace him?" she said.

"I spoke to one Republican who said eventually, who is not in favor of Trump, said it's her position that everyone should leave except Mattis," Corn said.

"That Mattis needs to be there to say no to whatever order might come that will lead from chaos to worse. A lot -- a lot of people in Washington are rooting for Mattis to stay on. Kelly, Tillerson, they may be more ambiguous about. It's hard to imagine things being more chaotic than they are already. You know, he tried to have Reince Priebus, John Kelly, he couldn't keep Bannon, his chief strategist, in the White House.

"I don't think we can make a guess. There's one point I want to highlight that you raised in that wonderful opener, that's nine months into the Trump administration, there's no nominee for the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He's about America first, protecting America, he can't find the guy who said he could bring the best people into government, a person to nominate? The DHS, in charge of protecting critical infrastructure, including election security.

"In case we're coming to another election, if Russia is going to do more Facebook ads, DHS is the lead agency on this. This shows the degree to which he's not serious about governing."

Reid and Corn also discussed the fact that experienced people of substance aren't interested in serving in a Trump administration because so many positions are unfilled, there is no working chain of command.
