As we reported yesterday, Rep. Tom Marino, who was nominated by Trump to lead the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, was in the crosshairs after a joint 60 Minutes and Washington Post investigation blamed him for legislation that hobbled the DEA in fighting opioid abuse.

Yesterday, even Sen. Joe Manchin, the West Virginia Democrat who has his own family problems with the pharmaceutical industry, sent Trump a letter asking him to withdraw his nomination for the top drug policy position.

In a tweet announcing Marino's decision, Trump said, "Tom is a fine man and a great Congressman!"

There you go. Helluva guy.
