Steve Schmidt: 'A Coalition Of The Decent Rose Up' To Win

Schmidt explained everything you need to know about yesterday's elections.

Steve Schmidt summarized yesterday's election results in a way that Democrats should adopt going forward.

He first pointed out that Trump pulled his win out by a hair last year, an "inside straight" as Schmidt says.

He then recalled a young man who ran toward the bullets in the Vegas shooting, saving many lives before being saved by others. (Schmidt said Dallas shooting, but a few Google searches suggest he meant Vegas)

Schmidt continued, "That's also America. So when the country is seeing this indecency play out every day: [Trump's] attacks on a 26, 27-year-old pregnant woman with a 6-year-old whose husband has just fallen, a green beret."

"Last night we saw was enough. Enough," he declared. "And decent people, this was a mix of Democrats and Independents and Republicans."

"It was a coalition of the decent in this country that rose up yesterday," he concluded.

I think this is right. I've been saying for the past year that people don't like having norms shattered, or a president who is nothing more than their irascible grandpa yelling at Fox News and shaking his fist at the TV while tweeting furiously. The shock and disgust isn't limited to one political party, and so the people came together to put a check on it.

For the first time in a long time, young people came out in droves to vote in an off-year election. They, too, joined the coalition of the decent.

Women, people of color, suburban moms, and working-class urbanites. They all rose up, joined hands and said, "Enough!"

Now we have to keep that going into next year and take back the Congress.
