Democrats are working to put House Republicans on defense when they begin their inevitable Hunter Biden-ghazi extravaganzas and I’m already feeling better about January 2023.
November 18, 2022

The New York Times reports that a network of Democrat-aligned groups is planning "a multimillion-dollar counteroffensive," including a "SWAT team," to combat the coming deluge of GOP investigations into President Biden, his family and his administration. Although the White House is planning its own defense, the outside groups plan to push back “in a more adversarial manner,” the Times says.

According to Politico, rapid response teams, investigative researchers, pollsters and eventually a paid media campaign are all in the works and designed to put Republicans on the defensive for using their majority to promote their own political interests instead of working on behalf of Americans.

They’re already at work, too. More from Politico:

A team of researchers has already begun scouring public records, press clippings and other documents in a bid to immediately undercut House GOP leaders, from Minority Leader — now speakership hopeful — Kevin McCarthy to the likely committee chairs expected to manage probes of Biden and his network.

It's none too early, either. Outside Republican groups are already at work, too. They’ve “already mapped out potential targets and started digging into issues,” Politico says. Republican House members are licking their chops with malice, too. They want to use the Hunter Biden investigation to tarnish President Joe Biden, probably to the surprise of nobody. The other “investigations” Politico describes are all MAGA-performative power plays, too: a “sweeping investigation into the Justice Department and FBI, two frequent targets of Trump’s ire,” (which will include the Mar-a-Lago search), Ukrainian aid and the origins and handling of the COVID pandemic. McCarthy has promised more, too.

Oh, and “some in the party are clearly itching for payback after then-President Trump was impeached twice,” Politico says. And since they may not have enough support to impeach President Biden, the GOP has set its sights on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as “a more likely target for attempted removal from office.”

In other words, lots of Fox-friendly video clips designed to enhance the GOP members’ airtime with their favorite Fox hosts that do nothing to help the rest of us.

The Democratic counteroffensive is designed to avoid another Benghazi which, fake scandal that it was, nonetheless dragged down Hillary Clinton. Some of those involved in the efforts include Facts First USA, whose president is David Brock, the former right-wing hit man turned left-wing advocate; the Center for American Progress; and the Congressional Integrity Project.

Don’t you feel better now, too?
